Well, I've never heard of "A Lloyd", but I love the Steeleye Span version, which is the first version of this folk song I'd ever heard, and I also love this version, which is very different. There was also a beautiful version by three women here on YouTube, but I couldn't hear the words well enough to learn it (bad recording and Scots-Irish accents.)
@INTHEJUNGLE123 A Lloyd didn't write it, it's a traditional ballad that we collated from the Child and Broadside collections (dated around 1860ish). Sorry it upset you, but Lloyd has no claim to this ballad.
@INTHEJUNGLE123 Just because someone 'characterises' something, doesn't mean they then own it. If it wasn't for Cloudstreet, I wouldn't have heard this song at all so I'm sure, instead of rolling in his grave, A Lloyd is probably happy that someone else has got to hear this great song.
