1) Population or wasting food has nothing to do with this (Developed Europe as a whole has larger population than USA, I don't think any country in the world goes out of its way to waste food)

2) I have been lucky enough to have been able to live/work in several parts of the world in Asia, Europe and USA, and believe me, there is a noticeable difference.

1) Diet: Predominantly fast-food based, also largely based on corn(unhealthier than other food staples). Corn is just what happens to grow in that part of the world, but the reliance on extremely cheap and unhealthy burgers, hot wings, etc is something which can be changed. In last 10 years, France has grown very fond of McDonalds, with a substantial rise in obesity. China has been swamped with KFCs, and obesity is increasing there too.

At the end of the day, weight gain is a simple function: energy input through food - energy output through exercise. There are problems at both ends in America. It is sad that the people most affected are lower income folks, who are easily seduced by the 99c double cheeserburger, rather than affluent folks.
