  • i have a homemade mechanical relay on my videos works good but not very high performance

  • If you want to improve performance, try searching for "vibrator" circuits used in early car radios. They used a similar concept to step up the voltage. However, a motocycle or car coil with a condenser will work well, as long as it is not a modern type (eg: commodore coil pack) with control circuit stuck to the bottom.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • it is a simple setup, using a car relay wired through the normally closed contacts - in series with the coils. this is used to switch through a motorcycle coil with a condenser.

  • nice work, is there any way so u can have the cathode lights hooked up from the outside of your PC? i have a mini-pc and have no extra molex connectors, any way to have this done? thanks in advanced.

  • Cathode lights on a molex connector?

Unless you are referring to LED's I'm a little unsure as to what you mean. You can purchase cheaply, molex double adaptors from most computers shops.

  • try a microwave oven transformers...they get about 1000+ volts..these guys used their house main to get 40kv

  • Yeah thats better for making tesla oils - see some of my other videos for that projet.

  • what the amps? i got to 120 volts...but 10ma but that was all tranformers...maybe ill try a powerfull supply like 2-3 amps...

  • well in this vibrator setup we managed about 1amp.

  • cool...i overloaded my supply...a small 120vac transformer...i noticed smoke from it lol

  • ahh insulation breakdown.

yeah try immersing a microwave transformer in synthetic oil - don't use mineral as it can become conductive, and be wary of oils that use metal based friction reducers.

  • yeah...i guess ill just use a neon light transformer...i mean i get like 15kv already.

  • yeah that works, though if you go to all this trouble, one may as well just go the whole hog and make a tesla coil.

  • yea

  • Lol I see you agree...

  • all that for 70 volts...lol....dude go buy a nst

  • Lol but that costs money...

This was just some fun with bits and pieces to cure boredom.

  • interchange the transformer for a car (or motorcycle) ignition coil and you will have a simple Rumkorff coil ;) for generating very high voltages (it was my science proyect when i was at school 14 years ago). Usefull for demostration of gas ionization (like plasma globes).

  • Yes thats an interesting application, I have since moved on to tesla coils and the hutchison effect, however this was something I built while bored, using simply the parts that lay in front of me. Plasma discharge is something I am yet to tackle, Will see how I go.

  • Good luck with tesla coils!, if i can give you some help, or be usefull, let me now, i think tesla coils are one of the most fascinating devices i ever built.

  • Yes will do, my father has built himself one, and I have become his research assistant. any kind of information would be helpful. Inbox me and I'll send you an email addy.

  • It's called a "vibrator".

  • Yes I am familar with the term, and the circuit, I was trying to avoid using that term, for fear of the sexual connotations. However thankyou for taking the time to assist. Not everyone does.

  • and uh...i dont think id (well if i was female) want to have 70vac around an "area" lol
