If I had a Time Machine, then certainly it would be the period of 1945-1960 to which I would want to be transported; living out the rest of my years sipping sodas in a malt shop, holding hands with a poodle skirted, pony tailed beauty, making out in a car while such wonderful songs played and going home to Mom and Dad sitting quietly reading in the Living Room while Square Big Band plays. A fantasy for sure, but one that occupies my increasingly middle aged mind.
Ricky died in 1985, (I believe it was New Years Eve, but don't hold me to that.) at age 45 years young, a tragic loss to his family, and we, his fans.
I had never heard this song until it was referred a few days ago and my how a gut load of emotions explode inside me when I listen to this. Imagine me, a 48 year old middle age man, crying, thinking about my now departed Grandma and Grandpa whose farm we would refer to as "Down home," and which was our summer destination for many, many years. "fishing lines...that was always the one thing Grandpa took time out with all of his grandchildren for, to fish on a pond, the river...bitter sweet!
I've always liked this song and have been trying to repurchase it for years. So glad to be able to hear it again; it is still the great song that I remember. Thanks for posting! - writeroffthelake at Geneva-on-the-Lake
Thanks so much! This song is my favorite of his, but as far as I can tell, it's not on CD anywhere. Thank goodness I've got it on a 40-year-old cassette tape (that still plays fine!)
BTW, there are two versions of the 'For You' CD album, one has the standard 12-tracks, the other 8 extra bonus tracks. You get more with the second, but sometimes it's more pleasing just to get the original album tracks.
@mzvelveeta..."Down Home" is on the high-quality import "For Your Sweet Love" / "Sings For You", on England's ACE Records CDCHD 667. Possible available as a download, too. Though this is an imported CD, it's readily available from Amazon or CD Universe.

This great Carole King-Gerry Goffin tune was a radio hit in several markets, but was overshadowed by it's other side..."Fools Rush In".

Great Ricky song. Down Home should have received more recognition for the wonderful song it is.

Yeah, as great as he was, Ricky never got the recognition he was deserving of.

I bought Fools Rush In as a 45 single. This was on the flip side, and I ended up playing both sides equally. Thanks for uploading this :)
