If you are on city water, then yes, definitely filter your water or use distilled or other purified water. @SpikesScarletWitch - if they are really the grade of silver it says they should work. It may take longer due the surface amount of silver in the water being smaller. They should last you a very very long time!

Like he said, make sure this is pure .999 silver to do this. Do NOT use sterling silver as it contains nickel, which will make your mixture toxic.
