  • You are the basson hero, im sure u will made more childs try to enter in this awesome instrument :D

  • Hi Paul, can you tell me please how do you change the sound? what kind of pedal is that? do you have any MIDI foot pedal? Thank you!

  • @Lkiduta Hi Likiduta-I had a Digitech Studio Vocalist that I had hooked up to a MIDI buddy pedal-the MIDI Buddy would change my programs; the programs were custom harmony patches I came up with. Thanks again very much!

  • Yes-it's best to use a separate bocal like the ones they sell at Forrests Music that come in a kit with a Little Jake or Telex pickup and a bocal with a mount created for the pickup. Othewise-effects on an overhead mic won't really work. So sorry I've not gotten back to you! Thanks for watching and thanks for your patience!

  • Hi Paul !!! Do you have any news on Mr. Josephson new MIC ? because I don't see it on his website... Is it for sale somewhere ? thanks !!!

  • HI-I do finally have news. I have the new mic and it is very, very nice. It is very different from the FRAP-it sounds more like a bassoon. It is here and tell the world. I don't see it on the website yet but David just went to the Munich AES show with a few.

  • Thanks so much for this vid! Super helpful! I've been trying to experiment with an electronic set up for my sax, and i've been curious about which pedals and boxes are best for harmonizers / loop stuff etc, this is exactly what I've been looking for. Best of luck with your music, really solid stuff man. Will you be coming to the NYC scene any time soon?

  • @Saxman11290 I might be coming in 2012 to NYC. I hope.

  • Hello there Paul. Really really nice video. Your piece with bassoon and harmonizer is really beautiful music. By the way: are that pictures from the Norwegian town Bergen? And is your microphone drilled into the bocal?? I would really like to know more about that...

  • Hi Linusbergi-yes, that is Bergen. I was on tour there 4 years ago. The mic is not drilled into the bocal-but there's a mount for the pickup that screws into the bocal. I can use the bocal acoustically still-I have a screw that fits into the hole when I don't use the pickup.

  • I am a bassoon performance major at SHSU, and have recently began taking jazz lessons, has the pickup that you have mentioned been released yet or should I look into the bocal pickup combo at forrests? Thank you for being a pioneer!

  • Hey Dude! I that new mic-it's been a long time I know. I don't want to jinx it but I think that things are getting warmer for the Josephson mic. THere's another by Trent Jacobs that they may be selling at Forrests music-that's a lot better than the telex.

  • Paul, I've seen some middle-of-the-line pickups for sale online specifically for bassoon; what would you suggest with these? Are they good,or should we just hold out for the new FRAP?

  • I would wait for David Josephson to finish his mic. I tried it

a week ago-its awesome. The output was a bit hot so he's making another few with reduced outputs. This thing is going to be better than the FRAP. I will try the reduced output one in a month. THANKS!

  • Is there any way to contact him? All of this info is great! As always you are an inspiration!

  • how do you get a pickup like that?

  • man-that's the million dollar question. I will run out of space talking about it but: you can't get a FRAP anymore. BUT Josephson Engineering (google it) has a prototype of a FRAP-type mic that is supposed to be better and able to handle very high SPL (160DB) like the FRAP. It could be a matter of months when a person can buy a FRAP-like device again. I've been waiting since the early 90's myself. This new one should actually be better-make sure I know you're interested in one for the future.

  • how exactly does it work? would it work only for bassoon or would it work for another instrument?

and how much would it cost?

  • it would work for all wind instruments. It's just that nothing else really works for bassoon. The sound comes out everywhere unlike a brass instrument where there's just 1 hole for sound. It will be pretty pricey-I try it in a few days.

  • it would suck to get tangled in those cords

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! This is exactly what I wanted!

  • Thanks for sharing this, cool rig :) God I love the sound of the bassoon!

First album out of print? Oh no!

  • hi PH nice demo, good song nice job .

  • nice materiel
