I think Feist has got a very recognisable musical personality. Her music is definitely not retrogressive (eg her tongue-in-cheek hiphop tracks with Gonzales, and her use of live loops onstage) and she is a very genuine artist. Feist admits to "damaging" her voice in various Punk projects and Madeleine's voice is constantly compared to Jazz legend Billie Holiday. At any rate, you're probably hearing the similiar style of "lazy phrasing" but that's as far as it goes. Do you think Imogen Heap sounds like Feist and Peyroux as well?

I never included Imogen as part of the original post, but as far as adding her to it for comparisons, yeah, if you compare singing styles, but musically and physically, no way. Feist's Mushaboom could be interchanged (singing and music) with anything peyroux or Billie Holiday has done but falls quite short of Imogen's Hide and Seek compositionally in too many ways to count.
