  • Pat and the band sound amazing as usual!!!!! When I went to William Paterson Michael Brecker was a guest soloist with the big band that semester, I got a featured solo before Michael on a beautiful gospel/jazz tune by Bob Mintzer Called " Lazy Day "!!! Michael was a wonderful guy!!!!

  • Fenomenal!!! 2 genios!! estan locos!

(7 personas en este mundo no tienen alma! XD)

  • I bet my dude would die of amazement if he saw this! THUMBS UP FOR HIM!

  • Pat metheny ,for me, is the most of the guitar in the world.

But there are some improvisation more beautiful of this, for example "have you heard" or "lone jack"... You try to listen!!! Believe me

  • Where do i get the chords or a lead sheet to this phenomenal tune? it sounds like a blues but im pretty its more than that...

  • @AngeloMateus rhythm changes in Bb. as for the notes, have no idea...

  • @icmjazz really? those are some crazy rythm changes then.... i can just hear the notes but the B section chords are gonna frustrate me.... :s

  • @AngeloMateus Send me a PM if you want the link to the lead sheet that I've scanned from the Pat Metheny Songbook. =)

  • @icmjazz Send me a PM if you want the scanned lead sheet from Pat Metheny Songbook. =)

  • Where do i get the chords or a lead sheet to this phenomenal tune?

  • Personally, I don't really like Pat's own compositions, but when he plays as sideman he's freaking incredible!

  • woah, all these years i'd heard OF Brecker and Metheny and never listened to them

  • birifoiu

  • TITAN of titans

  • @hanj31 totally.. watching this makes me feel like he could never die

  • I am reminded why I like pat metheny

  • Man this is amazing! But I think it's missing something. It needs more zazz.

  • he holds the pick so awkward loooking..... looks like he just pinches it with the tips of his fingers

  • impeccable

  • 1:42 to 1:45 holy shit Pat is so good at playing poly rhythms in wholetone

  • holy crap, was Brecker site reading?

  • @jgl2222

It sure looks like he wasn't familiar with the song at all, but manged to pull out an incredible solo...

  • I wanna play a rhythm tune like this.... INSANITY!!!!

  • can't get any better than this when it comes to improvisations.......

  • A gem of gems.TY.Regisguitar for posting.

  • Здорово!!! Фантастика!!!

  • Здорово!!!

  • Antonio's raw drum sounds and crazy playing is awsome!

  • Brecker takes music to the level after the next! Antonio Sanches is absolutely phenom! Metheny isn't using effects! Is that a Gibson ES 175?

My brain hurts. It will have to come out.

  • Pat Metheny style is just unbelievable. It's IMPOSSIBLE not to recognise him.

Look at the drummer face, please!! He has played with Metheny some other times and his is always like that!

  • i am looking for material of pat metheny playing standards, does he have a cd where he does standards or is there some kind of bootleg?

    thanks

  • @poepneukerobotjes

"i am looking for material of pat metheny playing standards, does he have a cd where he does standards or is there some kind of bootleg?"

Pat Metheny hardly do standards. He has stated that every artist should try to make their own music, and that everything they play should come from themselves. He also says "copying others is bad for the soul"...

It is some vids of him doing a few standards on Youtube, though. But no album... :)

  • @jazzassin man that sucks

Kenny Garrett did a Coltrane tribute album, pat plays a minor blues and some other stuff on that

  • @poepneukerobotjes

I stand corrected, man! What I meant was he has no album of covers himself. (He may well have done similar things on other albums by other artists as well for all I know.)

Speaking of Garrett, I've always loved Scofield's "Works For Me" on which Garrett also plays. Fantastic. Heard it?

  • @jazzassin

oh yeah it's awesome, they play there will never be another you on that album!

Kenny also plays on Freddie Hubbard & Woody Shaw's album 'the eternal triangle', he plays some great outside stuff over a rhythm changes on that one

  • @poepneukerobotjes

    ...Not You Again ;)

  • @poepneukerobotjes

He's actually doing "All The Things You Are" on his 1989 album "Question And Answer" with Dave Holland And Roy Haynes.

  • 7 people just being blown away by these four guys, so they cannot click 'like' button properly...

  • @Medjai411 Nah I won't worry about this. Youtube does not filter the musical IQ of its visitors

  • @Medjai411 probably all the Kenny g fans that hate pat metheny for hating on him

  • 0:00 - 0:02 best song ever. The crowd even loves it.

  • @eviloatmeal and someone wants to continue in that spirit at 8:14

  • @eviloatmeal jajajajaja

  • metheny blows my mind.

  • Anyone know which cd or dvd this is on? Also the drummer and bass players names? Thxs.

  • @strav12 Don't know the DVD, but the drummer is Antonio Sanchez from Mexico and the bass player is Christian McBride from the US.

  • @strav12 Drummer looks and sounds like Antonio Sanchez to me.

  • 3:14 yeah

  • Don't know if this has been asked but, HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE THIS?!

  • yes, yes, yes!!!! Really misss Michael Brecker!

  • 1:40 to 1:50... guitarists shake in your shoes. Holy crap.

  • @jmchristian63 0:00 to 8:17 holy crap

  • Rippin.

  • Best players, best music bar none. It doesn't get any better than this!

  • A king of saxophone and a king of jazz guitar in the same stage make this a whole lot more worth listening!

  • This is why we all miss Michael so much. It's a pleasure to hear Pat play as well. You almost never get to hear him comp for someone else so it's a real treat.

  • @Modes9 good point, its cool to hear him as a comper

  • I am so happy to be watching this video!! Metheny and Brecker together!!!!!

  • This reminds me of Bach's BWV 543

  • Superb!

  • pat is really a genius

  • I like Pat Metheny.

but the awesome job by drummer/bass are usually overlooked, pity.

  • sick melodic reharms coltrane was the first .....don't forget

  • amazing ears!

  • Antonio Sánchez's solo its pretty cool

  • Michael Brecker was one of the most recorded and influential soloists of our time. His passing was a huge loss. Metheny is on fire on this tune!

  • If i would know he has that damn cancer i would spend him anything i would be able to.

  • one of my favorite brecker solos

  • anyone know the bassist's name?

  • Chrisitan McBride: Bass

  • I was lucky to see him with steps ahead in 1983 in a club in copengagen, great night, never forget it, R.I. P.

  • All of these musicians have such a special place in my heart and have influenced my life a lot. R.I.P. Michael Brecker!

  • unfortuantely he's gone! :)

  • Grazie Michael !!!

  • es demasiado esa fusion pa mi mente

  • Wow, this was great. Certainly made my day.

  • Coltraneish? His solo is very similar to a Parker solo; there isn't any theme in it, anything! Just wonderful notes at the speed of light...

    Dreaming..

  • holy crap! what a jam

  • who is a drummer

    sanchez??

  • Yea.

    And Christian McBride on bass.

  • yes, it's fantastic...

  • brecker is insane!

  • Two technical monsters one stage enough said!

  • 4 actually

  • Brecker's solo here has a certain Coltraneish feel to the lines, very awesome!

  • What a master technician in is craft

  • Comment removed

  • ... a little too busy for my tastes.

  • Then you are listening to the wrong men. they put the B in busy and its allllll good.

  • pat metheney and brecker both lengends of their instruments in jazz. pure awesomeness!

  • Always a treat to hear Brecker on rhythm changes. Stellar performance.

  • That's the Outside Man - always swinging, always fresh, always modern, always challenging, always surfing the changes, always navigating through incredible rhythmic and harmonic progressions. Michael Brecker always moves me to tears of hapiness and sorrow. I am deeply sorry that he has passed away, but always thankful to be able to still listen to him!

  • @perovaas -Amen,R.I.P.Michael!

  • @perovaas

Totally agree with you, and it's amazing that I'd just wrote the same words on Facebook, when I discovered that Pat Metheny wrote "Every Day I Thank You" for Michael Brecker.

    Right on!

  • grande pat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tn 2007, Michael Brecker died from leukemia. the one on the saxphone

    gather of gods...

  • the bassist ain't too bad either.

  • @hagiyamachou If only Jaco Was still alive :(

  • yeah unibomber, I totally agree. All music is just made of the same 12 notes anyways, so really its all the same!! I'm so glad I read your comment, i'm going to go throw away my mp3 player now. Thanks for the enlightenment.

  • im pretty sure he meant that its incredible that all this creativity is spawning from rhythm changes, the same form that has been used 10000 other times. yet they still make it sound new. drop the sarcastic tone.

  • What a sweet tune.

  • what was pat playing before this

  • Christian McBride laying it down. :) Great job!

  • god pats phrasing is so fucking cool

  • Its about as original as its gonna get these days.

  • Lo mejor

  • ahhh so free! thanks for the effort.

  • Nagyon jók a srácok!

  • Wow, Rhythm changes...

  • Wow, this video...! Majestic‼

  • plz post the song "soul cowboy" from this concert i cant find it nowhere!!

  • Awesome drummer but I don't really dig the sound of his snare.

  • Man, the older he is the better he gets. Way to go!

  • Michael, we hardly knew ye.

I am old enough to remember the band Dreams that burst upon the scene in 1970. Randy & Michael, Billy Cobham, the guitarist Abercrombie - a heluva band, a heluva debut record. A friend of mine gave me Michael's solo album about 10 years ago and told me I could stop playing now - MB just played every note in existence and there was nothing left for anyone else to play. That was damn near true. What a giant.

    C Brooke

  • He is really amazing that is true.... But I think there are still many thing to play.... Listen to Chris Potter, Sylvain Beuf's trios, julien Loureau.... But of course I miss Brecker really much and he played many many many things..

  • Wow, Michael Brecker's solo blows my mind. His ideas are brilliant, much like Coltranes and his technique is amazingly controlled. This video leaves me with awe. Every solo in this video is awesome!!!!!!!!

  • pat's holding the pick so weird and yet has such an awesome technique

  • Exactly my thoughts. His right hand technique looks really sloppy, but he manages to be very accurate.

  • Holding the pick sideways so the rounded edge makes the attack contributes to Pat Metheny's guitar tone... The most efficient way of achieving the sound he wants is what may seem like sloppy technique

  • Rest in Peace Michael.

  • good drummer "Antonio Sanchez"

    good drum solo!

    5 stars

  • PM's got a Tuff ring finger!!

  • i don t like his music but i am really impressed by his sense of rythm and note choices, it is really advanced

  • This is just rhythm changes though, the same shit people have played since way back when. They just play it in a modern way.

  • Yeah, delux lineup, Metheny, Brecker, McBride and Sanchez, pure fuckin' genius!!!

  • i'd give anything to be able to do some rhythm changes like that

  • Yeah, delux lineup, Metheny, Brecker, McBride and Sanchez, pure fuckin' genius!!!

  • Oh my God! Is That Randy Jackson on Bass?

  • Christian McBride

  • amazing, i would like to find videos of pat and jim hall , if anyone knows let me know ..thanks!

  • I would have given brecker my liver in a heartbeat if it woulda saved him... not that he woulda been interested in my liver

  • What the F___! Does Pat realise that someone's stolen the blue stripes off his shirt!

  • lmao

  • Pat Metheny is one of the greatest musician who ever live!!!!

    Antonio sanchez the drummer too!

The plays so powerful liker no other can!

  • my first visit what a great way to start

  • can somebody upload the video where pat metheny is playing "james" with mike brecker?

i remember it was a great video and it was removed =(

  • that hair is great ! and the music is awesome by the way :B

  • Michael Brecker was just a phenom. From the Horny Horns to Metheny, he has played on so many significant albums its crazy.

Can we put all these no talent artist of this decade on a spaceship and get Michael back?

  • so true man. I'd even single-handedly build the spaceship!

  • Breaker Grew up around me Elkins Park Pa

  • Thss saxo's solo is really mesmerizing! Brecker is a great performer.

    Rest in peace.
