Selector 11, PantsTyler says that because he realizes that it's such a high part, he'd probably prefer to play it near the beginning while his chops are still fresh.
Lol, umm tell pantstyler, that when you are as good as Wayne Bergeron you can wail for hours and not be tired, so to Wayne this is just another song to play, he doesn't worry about having enough chops to play a song like high schoolers and some college students
I know...I am one of two high school trumpets in our school jazz band, and the second couldn't play either first or second. so, I had to play both alone! it was terrible, my chops just weren't up to it. I had to play it for a jazz festival, and take the solo...
wow this dissapointed me so much =.= the recording is way better than this, waynes solo wasnt all that great, my expectations were 2 high, im really dissapointed =/ idk about arturo sounding any better wayne though, but he prob would have had a better screaming trumpet sound. idk i miss the spanish dude on the recording w/ the "puente el rey del timbal" =/ drumer was sick though XD
you know wayne was probably playing lead for a accouple of hours, I know wayne and he is a sick trumpet player. the best trumpet player that I have ever sat next to.
Both Wayne and Arturo are amazing players. Which ever one is better is irrelevent, they both respect each other and could easily wipe the floor with you, me, and just about any other trumpet player. But they still chose not to which is what makes them even greater players.
honestly..wayne didnt impress me..im a trumpet player and i think that the CD did better than him..if anything i think the drums should get props on his amazing solo!! lol
you can get the book with solos in it.... of the gordon goodwin's big phat band website... i have one... it has all the lead trumpet parts and some solos too
I saw them play horn of punte in jazz festival and the trumpet guy was literallly dying

There's a recording of them with a flute player at 2:10 that plays along with the lead trumpet, and it really adds a lot to the song.

Anyone know who's on drums? That doesn't look like Bernie Dresel to me unless he got a lot older all of a sudden...
Amazing performance though!

I feel sorry for Wayne having to play this. I would never in a million year want to have to play this in the midst of set of Goodwin tunes.
