Hey people of Shenendoah County, Virginia stop opposing I-66 and let it go west so the press stop calling Corridor H a waste of money. Elect some lawmakers who care.
@mudfroggie At some point I would also like to film the other part of Corridor H from north of Elkins to I-79. I may try and time the eastbound video for this a couple of days after they get a substantial snow. There's a youtube user named NancyToday who has videos taken last Winter of Corridor H after the big snow we had in Feb. and it looks awesome.
@aswchris Thanks... I think the idea here was to have it at grade in low-population areas and the take it below/above in the higher population areas (relatively speaking). This road is used an example of wasteful spending, but building roads like these are necessarily for economic development. West Virginia honestly is not the wealthiest state in the US but with this proactive approach they are taking to roadbuilding, it should put them on track for solid growth once the US economy turns around.
@mictech08 Thanks... yes, had been tracking it on the WVDOH website and saw that it was scheduled to open this past week. Eastbound is really scenic too... will shoot that within the next couple of weeks.
@VaFreeways It opened last Wednesday afternoon after the ribbon cutting (which I attended). Although crews were still out posting route signs and pulling "road closed" signs after the ribbon-cutting, eastbound was more or less driveable by 4pm.
@mudfroggie Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it was originally supposed to open this early. My suspicion is that Gov. Manchin pushed to get it open ahead of election. But if it helped him get more votes from the folks in this part of the state, all the more power to him.
@VaFreeways That's a remote possibility. I've been monitoring construction on this segment for the past 2 years, and especially over the summer, I'd been saying that they could've had it open by Labor Day if they really wanted to. That said, they had long been noting "Fall 2010" for the opening, so it was more or less on schedule as it was.
Speed limit says 65.
Its nothing to be driving 85 on this road and be passed like your doing 45.
Used to take this road every day to and from school.

Some notes:
It's a pretty scenic view around 3:45...I've been known to stop there to take photos. Better view than at the scenic overlook.
Correction at 5:14: it actually opened on the 27th (Wednesday) after the ribbon-cutting.
At 6:13, you're crossing through Timber Ridge.
At 7:14 is more or less the "top" of Patterson Creek Mtn.
At 7:42 is another nice view.
Correction at 8:03: Patterson Creek Rd.

There are some great scenic views in this video! I like this new road, it's a bit of a compromise between a freeway and an expressway.
Great music as well, I happen to have a few Eric Johnson albums (very unknown artist here in Europe).
