let me make it clear to whom ever i may have offended, that finds it necessary to personalize my comment. firstly i never said it is worse to be alone than raped. Being raped has its own pain attached to it. But feeling like absolutely no one cares is very dangerous. Not family, not friends, not even a stranger u can speak with. To shut ones self up in that dark cold place there is no other pain like that. that type of aloneness makes depression look like an after vacation flue.
I'm not certain it's simply that Kelly is alone that she ends her life. The guy who is disabled (Steven?) was very alone too, apart from his family. Kelly also speaks of her family- from the comments she makes at the end about her sister & the baby, it is clear she has a happy relationship with her family. I think the point is that Kelly was unnoticed. Everyone was so wrapped up in their problems, they didn't even notice she was struggling- with whatever it was.

Kelly may have a "close" relationship with her family but notice she didn't say her sister called to ask how Kelly was doing or anything like that, she just sent a video of something from her life, ignoring the possibility that her sister might have things of her own going on.
@thatonekiddo I think that's all very true :) I guess what it comes down to is that we don't really know the whole situation, we only get very small glimpses into Kelly's life. & whether a person has a supportive family or not, may not be enough of, or lack of, a coping resource to balance out that person's pain. Her pain exceeded her coping resources, whether or not her family were a significant resource. I think that leaves us with a reminder to care for friends & family- by removing blame
this is a really powerful scene and they should have kept it in. it makes total sense that kelly was the one who ends up killing herself, no one pays any attention to her and as you said, that can be worse sometimes than the kind of alone you feel when you're the one who gets picked on or the one who is molested. not to say they are not awful, but to feel completely invisible no matter who you are or what you do must be the worst kind of lonely.

But kelly is really truely alone. she is like invisible to everyone around her. trust me people, there is nothing more scary or hurtful than not being seen by anyone. being bullied, molested,insecure, gay issues, these all hurt but feeling like whether u live or die no one will notice is the most dangerouse kind of pain there is.
@pnle I think Melody had it worse. Not only was she raped by her own brother and will she have to deal with the terrifically awful psychological repercussions of that the rest of her life, but she's also pretty alone.
u don't get it, all the film is sum up there in this beautiful scene.Kelly s playing the piano alone, the disable guy is walking alone,the gay one is cheated by the 3 "macho" guys....no one really cares about no one, we fight & struggle alone our own battle, no matter how hard it is or shallow it can be; we all react differently towards the hurt split in our eyes by our own life or externally by frustrated people around the globe,..how do we manage to survive with all this pain to deal with ?
When you 're sad, when you 're in an anger, when you feel frustrated or misunderstood, EXPRESS it by crying, by slamming doors, by talking to someone...don't let the pain destroy you and tear you apart in your own lonely world...there will always be helping hands or ears...
sometimes you may got or feel lost.. you just need someone to show you the way out....or shed a different light on what you thought you would never reach ....there are also good people around you , nice people you can trust....just choose the right one...and allow yourself to be helped trust....just choose the right one...
