  • For Skandalos: Dad didn't always talk real clear, especially as he got older because of the shrapnel still in his neck and voice box from the Saipan battle. Also my camera didn't have the best microphone.

  • Awesome stories. Just a tad hard to understand for a non-native-english listener.

    My father (German) was drafted when he was 17 years old in the last year of the war. I still love to listen to his stories although he never took part in any major battle. He says it is like a movie for him today, just so unreal.

  • I don't understand why that one Marine was court-martialed for being sniped. Why did he get in trouble for surviving a sniper's bullet?

  • I was there when the Marine told this story. The wound didn't appear to be serious enough to have been caused by a bullet. You should have seen the look on my Dad's face when he learned that the bullet went past his ear just missing him by an inch or two. The sniper was aiming at my dad!
