@85wifebeater a strop is a leather strap about 3 inches wide and about 3 feet long....all knife experts and or creator's use them to polish off the microscopic "teeth" made on the knife when you sharpen it making it cu smother and stay sharp longer
AUS6 and 8 are not great knife metals and from what down under knife co.boasts is the use of these metals.650C,1070v,1090,1090v,1095,1080T.are great knife steel;Aus6=420,Aus8=440A in quality;440C is better in the stainless realm but higher carbon steel's are always better for strength and edge retention.
@RebelWrestler45 False. I am a liberal and I don't think carrying a knife is a sign of a mental illness. I also own 2 guns and a pretty big (but cheap) knife from Belize. Don't be so quick to generalize.
i just got one of these in the mail today and it is even bigger than it looks in the videos online. i'm 5'9" and this knife is longer than my wrist to elbow!! Practically a small sword. AWESOME
I just got mine (in the mail today actually lol) and completely agree. The belly of the blade was curved alot more than I expected and overall size of the blade. I love it. I had the Rambo 3 knife that has the same overall, and blade length, but this seems bigger than the Hibben Rambo 3 bowie.
I hate knife laws. In my state, you are only allowed to carry concealed knives with a blade length of 3 inches. Right to Bear Arms my ass. this is bull shit.
@specialforces69 lol, Whether he believes it or not, he is just trying to be irritating. Hmmm, It would depend on the style of combat. I favor strong, thick, fixed blades with a little reach, so bowies do qualify, although, if you use a thrust as your attack with no thought to cuting, then a person might be better off with a stilletto. A dagger would be a mix between the two. As for my everyday carry knife, right now I never go anywhere without my Buck 110 Folder. Use it for hunting too.
@specialforces69 I know. Much of my post was satire(Pretending to seriously defend him while pointing out what the horrible idealogy behind liberalism is). If you actually look around youtube on some other big knife vids, you will notice he posts on them too about how "Queer" someone is for wanting a big knife.. He is a Troll, plain and simple. His only purpose on here is to harass and cause problems.
@specialforces69 I think you misunderstood him. It's only a mental illness if you aren't a criminal. He has to say that because when the criminal gets caught for raping and murdering 30 women with a knife, it wasn't the criminal's responsibility for their own actions that he wants them on trial for. He wants to blame it on Mental Illness.
A strop is a 2 inch wide leather strap that is generally secured to a wall on one end and pulled tight with the hand while the knife is drawn spine first across it to polish the cutting edge. The one I use is a 3 inch wide x 15 inch long cowhide glued to a smooth board. Basically what old school barbers used to maintain the edges on their razors.
There aren't many people that can do what DUKs have done with 440 stainless. I've had one for 6 months now and have put it through HELL. Still acts new and I expect it to act new for longer than I'll be here to use it. This is more than worth the price. Hell, the sheath is worth $80.00 by itself. Tough and holds an edge great. Easy to keep sharp with the included rod also. I haven't had to put it on a stone yet. Just the rod and a strop. Shaves better than my razor.
The ONLY thing that keeps me from batoning with it is that where the tang enters the guard, it is ground / cut at a right angle which I have seen cause fractures in other knives. I believe that light batoning will not affect this knife but I won't be doing it if I don't have to. I'll use my axe for the heavy work.
@liberalsaresuperior unless, you know, you venture out of your paved, sterilised world, live in a rough part of town, do any practical hands on job or task, just enjoy using knives for whatever or just like that feeling of security and self reliance a knife can bring knowing you have mankinds staple tool since the dawn of time which is capable of keeping you alive in any situation if you have the knowhow, not very tolerant and open minded for a "liberal" are you...
@liberalsaresuperior Liberalism is a mental disorder; carrying a tool that fits its proper application and point of use is a sign of a rational, proactive mind.

Mirror finish is so fuckin' stupid. There is no faster way to make a knife go from looking like a tool to looking like a plastic toy.

I always have at least a small pocket knife on me. Always. You never know when a blade is going to be needed. That's an awesome knife, by the way.
