  • lol why MIT ask for donations considering that its a huge university earning millions per year and asking for donatios :P

  • I'm 7 and a half and think I'm a little princess! I want to learn python because it's a cute name!!

  • I am currently a sophmore (highschool) I am really interested in computer science/ programming I am going to take programming classes next year and programming video games my senior year. What kind of mathematics is required for such a course? Linear Algebra? Matrix Math (barely know what this is)? Statistics? Basically what high level math...

  • So i know not all classes are going to be like this one in different schools, but just sitting here watching this video and listening and understanding what he is saying makes me want to do this so much more. I plan to enroll in Comp. Science at a local collage here very soon and i am glad to have found this video. Going to watch the rest of them as well. Informational purposes and to get a better understanding. Thanks for these videos!

  • I just started programming class and UNIX, think I'll be withdrawing from both. Shit pisses me off, and makes my brain numb. I'm frustrated and depressed... I think its back to Political science for me.

  • a Mac, really?? C'mon man!

  • @oringent THANK YOU!

  • Great

  • Video starts at 16:17, for those of you who don't need to hear the course rules!

  • owenstechworld(dot)tk check it out for custom computer building and games guides

  • 4:17 *john or me

  • awesome until 46:41 when we get the vid cap of his computer.

    I can't read a damn thing!!

  • @TheJazzSwings helps if Your not 110 years ol`...yuk-yuk-yuk.. isn`t 46:41 about when your prostrate is floating Your eye balls...depends.?.Trolled Ya!

  • I graduated with Computer Science B.S. from Mercy College, then I worked for 12 years in IT. I am able to somewhat keep up with this lecture...

  • i was searching for somin on my computing GCSE and found my self to this video. i just wanted to see it for a lil bit... but now i cant get off it o.o so interesting

  • To anyone who wants to apply to MIT,

I have found out that MIT and other good unis take one of the following people in:

    1. Excellent in academics. Involved in no sport teams but did deep service overboard

    2. Involved in numerous sport teams and started many clubs but was average in academics

    3. Someone who is really dedicated in the subject in which they are applying but Good(Not Excellent) in academics overall and loved sport but wasn't part of any sport teams.

btw, i heard this from others.

  • Hi im 14 in 8th grade i always love computers sence i was 5 i want to get into mit when i am older i want to be succesful in life i am going to follow my dreams and let noone change that MIT get ready for me(:

  • @multikiller910 same here bro im 15 and in 10th grade i have always loved computer science. In fact, I already know a few programming languages like PHP, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript and HTML i want to get into MIT so i can fulfill my dreams of being someone like Mark Zuckerberg and opening a private company.

  • @multikiller910 check my videos in fact they explain everything!

  • Comment removed

  • @multikiller910 then you will want to know how to spell since. and successful. and no one

  • 16:15 is where is starts in case anyone missed mw3info1's comment

  • i'm 13 and i'm from brazil lol

  • im 12 and im in 6th grade, currently im doing alegebra1 my life dream is to get into MIT and succeed in learning how to program robots these videos are really helping me succeed my goal i plan to program robots for NASA ....... MIT RULES!!!

  • I'm 13 years old coming out of Orlando, Florida and I hope to attend your college some day. I'd like to become a computer software engineer and I was hoping you could give me some references to help me achieve this goal, thankyou.

  • programming is a profession with a rather interesting and complex learning curve ?

  • Is this supposed to be hard, cause my high school classes are more difficult to understand.

  • @WhichKoreaIsBetter No. It's the first day, man...most of the time you just get your syllbi and peace out.

  • After i listen this, this video more stress, but i got some ideas from this. The sound is clear.

  • unuseful rookie information

  • waaoooo AWESOME CHANNEL

  • thank u :) with love from italy

  • its M.I.T yet they still have chalkboards...

  • >>> 2 ** .5

    1.4142135623730951

  • i listen to these when i play minecraft

  • @Bubaka54 Same here

  • @Bubaka54 good idea!

  • @Bubaka54 Sorry to say, but that is not productive, and you're most likely not learning a thing by doing that. It's called inattention blindness. Even though you sense the sound of this prof.'s voice, you aren't actually perceiving it into meaningful thought. You most likely aren't even saving it into short term memory, which only lasts for about 30 seconds anyway. Oh, and once short term memory is gone, it's gone for good. There is no recovering subliminal memories because there's no such thing

  • Hello i am 12 yrs old and i want to become a programmer :)

  • for youtube cut out the intorudction crap and get into the actual lectures

  • very informative!

  • am i the only 1 who is 12 years old and wants to learn programming language?

  • @gtheskater good job..but if you go to ted.com you can find a 12yr old kid writing iphone apps...i guess you can do alot more too.

  • @callmejon cool, thanks :)

  • @gtheskater that doesn't mean you're smart kid. You can't achieve anything without trying.

  • @TheBurmanUnicorn I didn't said I was a smart kid, and i don't pretend to become one. I'm just a guy that likes unusual things, ex: I don't like football, i don't like fps games like call of duty, I like strategy games and computer programming, etc.

  • @gtheskater well im 15, nearly the same age ;D

  • @iSPARKZ4Joel same

  • @gtheskater nope same here

  • wow mit thank you for sharing with us so precious info.

btw is there any way to see the commands in the console thing? because they appear all white and i can't see what't there

sorry 4 my english, im not english neither american

  • i would like to do AI, what should my study path be?? is there anything online?

  • @callmejon Programming is your main path, but other paths you can try other computer paths or try Cognitive Science, which is like a cross between psychology and computer science. Cant help you though on where to look.

  • @jorjorblinked thanks for that..i guess not all the uni lec is online yet..found some collective A+ lecturer here academicearth website...i guess ihave to stick with book for now..

  • Good!!

  • Cool Video, Very Infomative. Thanks

  • Good Video. Thanks For Infomations MIT.

  • I thought MIT was prestigious. This doesn't look like a very technical school. Especially since they look so low budget.

  • @AFFIXIATION1 I note that I meant that they look low budgeted.

  • I remember why i quit school

  • Comment removed

  • Eric. PLEASE, PLEASE learn the proper usage of "I" and "me".

  • Awesome free college course :D

  • Comment removed

  • @mw3info1 thanks. i was falling asleep

  • I signed up for computer science and I don't even understand his two types of knowledge. I understand how they are different but I don't understand the maths in them... I'm screwed.

  • I loved the video, much better than where I got some courses at. I like the fact that they're also introducing you to a language so you can see your mistakes instead of taking a guess at everything.

  • i wish MIT had a course in Meteorology. i would download all the videos..

  • Great video. thanks

  • why am i watching this? ........

  • They are miserable lot aren't they

  • It's hard as fuck lol

  • dropping scheme for Python. how is that smart?

  • so glad I'm not in MIT....boring!

  • Very cool that this course is free and online. Makes me want to go back to school!

  • Holy shit dude... I have no idea what he just said... I guess that's why I'm taking music..

  • Hm might just have to go to MIT I'm taking collage course C++ programming and I'm in 10th grade so hm idl bout this python stuff though I use Xcode

  • wish 2 study in MIT......and i will...

  • @Super681994 Not with that grammar.

  • wish to study in MIT.student of B.E.(1st sam) want 2 do master degree abroad need some suggestion on visa proceger.....

  • jesus, this is harder than lewin's classical mechanics. what the fuck's up with that?

i wish he tought this instead of this fella, the dutchman is a brilliant teacher.

  • fuck poverty ! I wish I were rich just to afford studying at MIT

  • lol komme aus münchen

  • C is clearly the best language. ;)

  • Hi guys,

I'm studying electrical engineering in the Technical University of Munich and

i want to spend one semester in the MIT. The problem is that i don't know any exchange programms offered in my university with the MIT. An other thing, i ve been told that i need to find a Student form MIT who wants to spend one Semester in my university too, so that i can make an excahnge.

Can you help me or do u have some useful links for exchange programms of the MIT.

    Thanks a lot :)

  • I like it.

  • ARE THESE LECTURES FOR UNDERGRADS OR GRADS ????

  • @so2murad would they be learning intro to computer science in grad school?

  • @theblackmonkey1700 why not if the university offers too broad studies ? :)))

  • Thank you very much ,you are a great people , i love you MIT

  • I find it funny how he makes jokes and pokes fun at stuff and no one laughs.

    Must be stressful there.

  • @0X28 if you feed your ego anymore it's diabetes will prove fatal.

  • When they show information and examples on the computer using the software the video shows it blurry and unclear is their or will there be improve version of this video ect or direct me to another one that's

  • Wh

  • I need to go to MIT.

  • I thank MIT 4 this video my heart.. but z rules of z school - what is that got 2 do wiz me? it only cost me 17 minutes of my life...

  • 16:15 is where it starts if you want to get past the introduction and rules he has said.

  • @mw3info1 I wished I've read this comment 15mins earlier...

  • MIT computer science education from the comfort of my home? and free? waaahoooo!!!

  • Why do all CS Profs use MAC?!

  • ..I'm watching this (i'm not taking physics and I don't intend to) instead of playing Skyrim..What, what?!

    proud to be DUTCH !

  • seriously the huge advantage of the elite universitiees is that people shut the fuck up when the prof is speaking. not like in my lectures

  • Comment removed

  • It's good. but it is very basic and seems to be for people who don't know any teckinal things. I prble all ready know 90% of it. but he did brack it down in a very easy to understan. he help me understad the the errer mesidges better thow. yes my speeling sucks i know that all ready.

  • Oh wow, this is great. I'm going to take computer science in college and this would be great for me to get an early start.

  • Having a crowd full of geniuses (like in my class) and serious nerds, results in a tough audience indeed. I had lecturers from other universities come give speeches at our university and no one reacted to any question ever asked - they were like a bunch of dead rabbits.

  • wow, no handingout notes? The lecturer tries to force his students to show up at his classes, thats just sad. Have he forgotten the main purpose of why people attends his classes. HINT - learn. So why not then let them have the best possible material there is? Feel sorry for you guys there :p

  • @repparej123 As everyone has learned at any university: classes are there to ask questions. Learning has to be done at home, by yourself. You didn't know that?

  • @repparej123 you're forgetting that the lecture is on youtube for all to watch...

  • @repparej123 they are smart enough to figure this shit out themselves. They don't need someone holding their hands the whole way.

  • dude his jokes r awesome..y no 1 laugh???

  • @shariar1995 NERDS!

  • @shariar1995 MIT WHAT DO U ECPECT

  • Note to self; don't go to post secondary

  • I would have walked out of the classroom @7:35

  • first half hour plus , him drawling on about proceedures , wtc

  • 360p>480p

  • what kind of computer scientist uses a mac? fail

  • @tennisstar5231 Sadly, my professor..

  • @tennisstar5231 lots do

  • @tennisstar5231 It's actually better than Windows for Dev, well, GNU/Linux is better.

  • @bellicjr

I use Linux for programming etc but windows for gaming. I would never ever ever ever use a Mac. At my University, only people in BA use Macs because they have no idea what a computer is.

  • @tennisstar5231 One who is not as close minded as you are.

  • @0x28

Haha ok sorry I forgot they can run Mozilla and connect to wifi. Everything apple creates is written in MICROSOFT visual c++. Macs are for hipster retards who want to show the world how cool they are.

  • @tennisstar5231 You certainly are not high society. Your writing shows that.

  • 480p makes such a difference.

  • computer scientist professor uses a macbook pro... sweet

  • Why cant my professor be that understanding and helpful :(

  • Mann.... those students dont even have any sense of humour

  • @EpicObama Lacking a sense of humor is a thing that comes with high intelligence. Unfortunately I suffer from this. I only like satiric humor.

  • how awesome!! I hope we use python in our computer programming course in January :P Ill already have a good start xDDD

  • that chalk is really big!

  • Wow,this helped me in my homework. Thanks.

  • thank you very much for the video. the whole concept of opencoursewere is amazing in my eyes. i recommend the website: 'openstudy . com' to help you study on your own.

and one last thing: the parts where Eric is working on the actual program is very blurry and you cant see what hes doing. shame...

Beside that - great lecturer great experience, hope to know to program a bit after seeing it (:

  • I should have skipped college and watched these....might have learned more.....

  • MIT was my preschool..bitches

  • Pity he doesn't understand the proper use of pronouns. e.g. See John or I, he has a strong aversion to using me.

  • Wow, I have no experience programming and this guy is moving at mach 3 for me.

  • Hey look, a squirrel!!!

  • its pretty amazing to see that some many people are actualy trying to get educated in their free ( im talking about the people watching this video) makes me realize that there is hope for our future

  • @imalsomemphis you know, it caught me by the surprise as well. I accessed this video from the MIT website and found out that the video was directly linked to youtube. I was expecting maybe 10,000 or 20,000 views, but we're close to a million! But to be completely fair, look at the number of views for lecture two that drops by 7 folds to 100,000 ; this makes me a little bit more cautious about your statement. ;-)

  • @neclord14 yeah you're right, i also noticed that by lecture 24, there is only 26,000 views, i guess that sitting through a 1 hour lecture at home is only fun for the first time, but then it gets boring lol.

  • @imalsomemphis for the select of us also people watching this could get a better understanding of it then the people in the class but no get a degree in the subject which seems like a big troll like making it imposable to read the text in the program but i will still watch and i think you will to

  • i feel really smart bu watching this video lol, wish i could go to MIT

  • It's quite honorable for schools such as MIT to improve man's education through free access to information. My thanks will almost certainly reflect in future donations. This is a great way to utilize YouTube.

  • @urcorrect They can afford to give a couple free lectures when they're dishonorably charging $40,000 per person for a SINGLE year, while some universities cost nearly $5,000 a year.

  • @DustinTROM Well it IS a school that specializes in technology.

    This isn't your community college.

  • the fuck this is why i love college

  • Thanks for posting this video. I'm thinking about going back to school so I can get a career that is in demand. It's nice to preview courses before I decide on a major. I already made the mistake of getting a degree in something that I didn't enjoy.

  • Hi there! What textbook do you use in this course?

  • This doesn't seem very complicated... I'm only saying this because my asian friend is majoring in computer science and he is an absolute asshole about it; he denounces all my acheivments as being a product of my 'easy major' in life science as opposed to the possibility that I may be smarter than him (he get's 60's and has a GPA of 2.0) I would fill you in on some more humerouse details about his socially-deprived life but there is a good chance he'll watch this video and criticize it somehow X)

  • I'm 15 and I want to take this course. I do some simple java scripting with eclipse, but I usually take the see and do technique; Meaning I see bits and pieces of others to make my own. I think it would be pretty amazing to make my own code from scratch. This man seems like an amazing professor

  • @xXxOmarSanchezxXx Omar, download yourself a copy of "Programming -- Principles and Practice Using C++" by Bjarne Stroustrup.

  • @xXxOmarSanchezxXx Are you sure it is scripting? I don't remember Eclipse doing scripting.

  • @0x28 yes java scripting

  • @xXxOmarSanchezxXx All I know is that Eclipse is an Integrated Development Environment that incorporates programming languages.. not scripting languages. Programming is not scripting. Java is not javascript. Remember that..

  • @0x28 That's not an easy distinction. Eclipse has plugins for python, ruby, php, and bash (that I'm aware of). Those are all best classified as scripting languages. I use three of those professionally, two of them (php and python) as programming languages primarily.

I know this is the internet where everyone inflates their own opinion, but Eclipse supports scripting languages, and a lot of scripting languages are perfectly suitable for programming (at least non enterprise applications).

  • @shadows090 I was talking to xXxOmarSanchezxXx. All that you said has nothing to do with finding out if he is using Java or Javascript, because he might have confused those two languages. A lot of people do that, especially novices. Scripting is not programming, that was the point.

  • subscribed :D

  • I predict the university lecture model will be changing significantly in the next few years...

  • I'm one of the few people I know of that actually uses their laptop 'properly' during class. I'm using it to either work on an assignment relevant to the lecture, or to look up auxiliary information about the topic.

  • I WANT LEWIN!!!!! OHAHAHAHAHA (no homo)

  • i cant believe i watched that whole video... i feel like i learned a lot. he's a good teacher. now to see how much i'll remember in the morning.

  • this video got over 100,00 views sense last night O.o

  • tough crowd indeed. I learned a lot and laughed out loud a several times. thank you!

  • thanks

  • thans

  • @SirSmexyy aww, how cute @.@

  • can computer programmers create apps for smartphone like ios and droid devices?

  • @S0All Yes, the apps are programmed for those devices, very similarly to how programs are made for computers.

  • @S0All Of course! That's what they are there for - to use computer science to do software engineering that will lead to robust applications such as most of them in iOS and droid. The advantage of droid is that it is easy to get into.

  • Very tough crowd. Those guys were complete ass holes.

  • Education needs to bee free and easy access for all of us.

  • oh you fuckers, you are in fucking MIT, say GOOD MORNING!!!

WTF is wrong with these guys?

    LOL
