@xjohnnyxriverra Not at lower speeds or on wet or poor roads. More contact patch = weight spread out more = less pressure on the rubber so less traction. Its the cars light weight and big tyres that make it awkward without downforce in the first place,

@hunghuge12 I tried telling this to the car forum I post on. I said "The caparo isn't useful as a road car. It's too light to go fast.". They had an enormous laugh at me, but it's true.. There just isn't enough heft pushing the tires down They insisted that you can, with a light touch, drive it fine and insist they know this from just driving normal cars normally. but in first, every touch causes wheelspin, and the engine is so stressed out, starting in 2nd will kill it every time.

@CSLFiero if you don't go 10/10ths in this car, it's going to result in a swift death. and where I live, there really isn't space to go 10/10ths in a car as fast as a formula 3000 car. I wouldn't want to if there was. So, who wants to pay 300-400k for a race only car that can't do a full day without breaking? anyone? If there is a team willing to pay the price in dollars, how about the price in DNFs?

@CSLFiero That just tells me they have no experience in really quick cars. I've had quite a few myself, raced a lot and driven many more. I think the Caparo is a great idea but as a road car it's so flawed it's pointless. It's more for bragging rights than anything else. Now if they could sort the reliability, low speed handling and wet weather grip it would be much better. Trouble is that would mean compromise so it wouldn't be as fast on a track. Noble M600 or Ultima GTR for me.

Wait so he says theres 3.00g but then he says theres not much grip? Whats the deal, I would think it would be the world's best handling road going car or is that just when your going fast? So is it like when you go really fast it's amazing but when you go slow the tires just aren't grippy enough?

@12scoots34 From what he said, the 3g downforce requires a certain amount of speed to work. Unless you can get the air to go through the various wings fast enough, all you effectively have is what the suspension and the tyres provide, which seemingly isn't enough. I suspect that this is an exercise in "go back and try again" if they want to make a road car like this. Mind you, I'd love to see this and/or the Atom V8 in a circuit formula!

atom v8 is just not in the same league as the caparo in terms of lap times. Not that any car is for that matter.

@mistie710 Yep I get it now, it doesn't use soft enough tyres so theres not enough grip, and the 3g can only work at high speed, which isn't legal on most roads, pretty much the soft tyres and high speeds is what makes F1 cars work, but I get it now thanks.

So it's 0.1 seconds faster around the track than the FXX was with racing slicks. 4" is still not enough to make it over any kind of speed bump I've ever seen and there's no way in hell you could park it in your driveway if it has any slope to it.

It has adjustable ride height dumbasses. Up to about 4".

4" is enough to make it over a speed bump. I know this because my car's clearence is 4".

In the full version of this video Jeremy Clarkson says something to the effect of," You know the rules...if a car can't make it over a sleeping policeman, then it can't go on the Power Board." Sleeping policeman = speed bump. I.E. the Caparo T1 is too low to make it over a speed bump.

The Caparo T1 was too low to the ground (yes, you can be ticketed for that - means it's not street legal). The Ferrari FXX was disqualified as well because it had racing slicks (not street legal) on when it went around the track.

I say give it about two years to get all the bugs out. A bit more contact patch would help in cornering though it would sacrifice 0 to 60 times. Would rather have the handling and loose a few tenths of a second.

The f1 was/is awesome at straight lines, and really good at everything else... but... it was set up to also be a comfortable, useable, road car. This means it's fairly soft. I'm sure i read somewhere that it's lateral grip was measured at 0.8something g, which isn't anything special. A caterham 7 does over 1g, so does a supra. Better to compare it to a zonda or veyron, would probably keep up with those

rubbish, it's 15 years old. i would expect to go into the high 1:20s.

the mclaren F1 is actually, very rubbish in comparison to modern cars in corners, infact it's 0.2G on a 200ft skidpad off of cars like the zonda and CCX.
