Arrrgghhh! I was on the Mac in the mid 1960's. Had a pretty good crew, but some of the officers should have been tossed overboard.... arrogant, Academy bums. I was aboard when Lawrence and Winstein were the CO'.s. Arrrggghhh! I couldn't believe it when I saw women "serving" aboard the old lady. All I saw the female crew members do was stand around and watch the men do the heavy work. Politically correct I suppose.
@cuttersftbll I would like to ask when you served on the Mac? My oldest brother was on her when the Big Fits went down in 1975. Before that he was on the Southwind. They broke a screw going to McMurdow in 71,or 72.. Was on the ABSECON, before that.
@Jesseowls there were about 75-80 by the time we decommed her..

FYI this vessel was built bigger then the the locks so it could not be removed from the Great Lakes
