This woman is a hyper-liberal fool; I have watched several videos of Ms. Heuvel and I can come that conclusion. She is so worried about people dying in Iraq, but the implication of abandoning the War on Terrorism, which she blithely advocates, would inevitably mean death to American citizens when al-Qaeda decide to strike us again.
Ms. Heuvel might want to try thinking through issues, as opposed to unthinkingly spewing pathetic liberal talking points handed to her by the Obama White House.
Cheney has given our once -great nation another 'Vietnam'. He and his Corporate cronies are enriched immeasurably by the tragic flow and cost of this debacle.
Arguably war is like any other government service the result of which is to increase and maintain land values. If we want government services, the proper source of revenue to pay for these things is taxation of the land value they create. If people want war let them pay for it fully now in the present generation via an increased tax on the land value increased and protected by the war. Is there any doubt that the kind of bogus war now being waged would be over the second this was required?
The Cost of Medicare/Medicade, illegal immigration, social security, heating your upper west side apartment and the New Jersey Turnpike cost more than the global war on terror.
What will be the cost to the secular, rational culture at the foundation of the emerging global civilization if this front in the War Against Islamic Fascism's abandoned?
It's high time you grew out of juvenile leftist conspiracy nonsense and recognized our true enemy: Fundamentalist Islam. Hear Rationalist heroine and true freedom fighter Ayaan Hirsi Ali speak from bitter personal experience about the barbaric threat to liberal soceinty and the hard-won intellectual and social gains of centuries:
Ron Paul is speaking about ending this war, bring home the money that we're spending in foreign adventures, and returning our monetary system to government control so that we can keep price inflation and dollar deflation under control. He's the only candidate, Republican or Democrat, who understands the real underlying systemic problems and the appropriate and responsible solutions. Perhaps its time for progressives to step outside their "LEFT" vector and pay attention.
The funds are borrowed from China, who in turn receive the rights to sell slave-labor goods to Americans; the goods will be shipped to Mexican ports after Normerica is created and transported by Mexican transport trucks going up the new highway right through the former USA. The new money will be called "the Amero". Google it.
Dennis Kucinich is my anti-war candidate. Ron Paul's so called libertarian philosophy would return us to the social Darwinism of the late 19th century.
Dennis Kucinich is an interesting study; however, his national socialism philosophy would propel the country into certain bankruptcy. After extensive study of the economics, I prefer a rational charitable approacy to social responsibility and a return to sound monetary policy by reducing dependency on the federal reserve.
"Certain bankruptcy" is a pretty strong choice of words. Libertarian philosophy is against programs like Social Security and Medicare. I support these programs and agree with Kucinich that Medicare should be expanded to include everyone. Programs like these are taken for granted in the other industrialized countries and I don't see them going bankrupt.
Not yet, but when you outgo exceeds your income & your liabilities exceed your net worth you are then bankrupt. The US consuming over 2 billion daily in foreign loans. That cannot go on forever.
You and your doctor know best how to treat you. Politicians & bureaucrats have proven to me that they do not have the collective wisdom to run my life.
Who is now going without critical medical care?
If you like it better there, may I suggest a relocation.
That's why we shouldn't spend 1.5 trillion on needless wars. Nor should our military expenditures be twice as much as the rest of the world's countries combined.
Insurance companies are running our lives now and their overhead is 20% whereas Medicare's is 2%. Not too efficient in my book.
As far as leaving, I'm too much of an American patriot to give up on my country like that.
The candidates aren't talking about the cost, because the cost isn't affecting them. All the presidential candidates are multimillionaires who have professionals managing their money for them. They have the tools to make money in an up or down market. The human cost has been kept hidden from Americans by the "embedded" media. The Pentagon learned their lesson in Viet Nam.

When she says the "global war on terror" costs each American $20,000, I'm just thinking how Medicare alone costs Americans $36,000.

Wow... well put, I didn't think about the costs in that manner, $20,000 for a family of four!
