  • Anyone know of any survival/wilderness awareness schools in the Black Hills of SD?

  • @Wakanse Check the local universities - they usually have some programs on wilderness survival

  • There are many good wilderness awareness schools in the US. Tom is just a regular guy with some outstanding skills. Tom charges a TON for his corses. I wish people would shop around a bit before shelling out the cash so Tom can get himself a new Hummer. All that aside, the corses offered by TB are excellent, allbeit overpriced and avliable elsewhere.

  • Are the Pine Barrens really that difficult to survive in compared to everywhere else? By the way I don't know anything about the Pine Barrens.

  • If you read Tom Brown's books, they don't say anything about them being more difficult to survive in than other areas, I too was suprised to hear the man in the white shirt speaking like that in the beginning.

  • @jimemarsden

"the man in the white shirt" IS Tom.

  • Pine barrens are thick with pine, so it gets difficult to navigate, and easy to get spun-around if you lose your orientation. That being said, pine is one of my favorite woods, for it's vast amount of uses and ease of working! The Pine Barrens are located in New Jersey, so you can walk yourself out, if you pick a direction & stick to it.

  • Thanks for giving us a little taste of the tracker school guys...

    Good job
