  • WAS IT JUST ME OR WAS THAT ONLY 1 WAY TO MAKE FIRE

  • @robwithab I was relieved when i saw you have clothes on

then i made sure the play bar stayed up just in case

  • this really makes me curious

  • u funny!!!!

  • alluminium! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • tee hee i sawr ur bum hole

  • The first few are all the same parabolic reflective surfaces + sun. They should collectively count as 1 of the 101 ways.

  • these videos are very funny, congratulations! Ps: i love fire : )

  • 'Fiyaa' LOL

  • man... you need your own show!!!

  • really informative videos, and with a sense of humor to keep people interested - happy to subscribe, rate and comment on these great vids!

  • honestly that veggie bake sounds delicious

    I want some

  • How did you smooth the aluminum and get rid of the olive oil? I'm assuming you used the tissue paper to remove the oil but I'm not sure how you smoothed the foil.

These are also some of the best videos I've ever seen, thanks for making them.

  • @pyrosnowball Oh wait, you probley used the back of the spoon, didn't you?

  • @pyrosnowball

Yup, that works. Also just a finger or a ball of tissue paper works pretty well, because the backing is hard and very smooth (glass) and the aluminium is relatively soft, it's just a question of smoothing it out onto the backing layer. It will conform quite easily to the texture of whatever is the substrate.

Initially the oil helps to lubricate the whole process so that the spoon or fingernail doesn't tar the foil. Also helps to "vacuum seal" the foil to the glass.

  • @pyrosnowball

    Thanks.

The aluminium does not have to be perfectly smooth, because we are dealing with such a large reflector. There is a bit of a margin for error.

There are two basic variables with solar concentration:

    1. Cross-sectional surface area of the lens or mirror

    2. Factor of concentration

The concentration is a function of the shape of the mirror and its efficiency (shininess).

In practice, you can accept a mirror that isn't perfect if it is big enough.

  • from now on, im always carrying a lighter with me :S

  • @popeeter

Always a good start. They do run out of fuel sometimes, though.

(Which is what I'll show you in the next video....)

  • i subscribed

  • YER AWESOME LONG LIVE :)

  • All these vids are educational and helpful with a twist of comedy to keep u hooked! I'm watching them all!!!

  • Wow dude do you live in england

  • @stevenc182 he live in south africa

  • y are all the vids based on reflexting light of of something

  • @hobomnky

Not all. I was just lumping some of them together.

There are only about 7 fundamentally different ways to make fire.

So there will be more than one way to make a friction fire, for instance.

  • Lmao at beatnik bob. i love the face at the end

  • B R I L L I A N T !!!

  • @bassfuryvi

    t h a n k s

  • really really cool video.Thank you.5 stars and subscribe

  • @nqkoisii

    Thanks.

I'll do my best not to disappoint.

  • lol you're naked a lot in your videos but none the less you have good advice and information. at night you can use an LED flashlight (torch) to get the same product. but it has to be a smaller scale of the parabolic mirror. also you should have the wind blowing at your back in order not to have the smoke in your face.

  • haha.. that was awsome.. i'm gonna watch all ur videos now

  • This is pure GOLD.... You sir, are hilarious!

  • Thanks.

Feel free to "share" with your friends.

    And your enemies.

  • I will spread the word!

  • you look like someone off of dateline nbc's how to catch a predator.

  • thats wot i liike about him

  • "How to Catch a Pyromaniac".

  • This "Fire 101" series is really ingenious and entertaining! Can't wait for more!

    5 ***** + SUB!

  • Thanks.

I'm sort of committed to rolling out another 96 of these. I'll try to keep having fun.

  • You are pretty amusing.....Why don't you have more viewers???

  • Thanks.

I'm not concerned. I'm still learning.

The answer is partly that South Africa is not an easy place to get started because:

    1. Broadband is expensive and slow here. So not much of a "home market".

    2. There are no country home pages or most-viewed lists or anything like that, so it's difficult to get noticed.

I'm relying on word-of-mouth. It means I have to make them entertaining enough that people will want to share them with others.

If the videos are good enough, people will find them.

  • yummmyyyy

    ;~}

  • You like a bit of Feta cheese, then?

  • I always wanted to see more of those epic "fly meets aviator" eyegoggles.

Ps isn't this essentially the same way to make fire as #4 ?

  • Yeah, basically, but I'm trying to change the materials for each one, using different things I can find lying around the house.

There are only a few fundamentally different ways of making fire, if you're referring to the original energy source. These would be, in no particular order:

    1. Geo-thermal

    2. Friction

    3. Gas pressure (technically also friction)

    4. Electrical (resistance heating and spark)

    5. Chemical

    6. Optical concentration (lenses and mirrors)

    7. Nuclear fission (not one for me !)

  • No nuclear fission ?

Your goggles say you can do it !

  • Now I just have to remember where I left that big lump of uranium.....

(The damn maid is always moving my things around. I say: "Please don't touch my fire-making things." Is that so difficult to understand ?

But they deliberately move things around, just so they can amuse themsleves by watching us hunt around the house for hours, cursing and starting to doubt our own sanity.

"Revenge of the oppressed", it's called.)

  • Your maid, that's Roberta isn't it ?

  • its meeeee

and iv been nauty losing ur special uranum u'll have to spank me rob

  • First, I'll have to lightly coat the surface with the olive oil....

  • Oh you are so smart.

  • *sniff*

They only ever want me for my MIND....

They're so busy ogling my BRAIN they don't even NOTICE that I'm naked. I feel like an OBJECT.

    *aggrieved sigh*

    Women are so INSENSITIVE.

  • No worries Rob! I don't care much for your mind. It's your body that I want...

  • We can always play scrabble AFTERWARDS, right?

  • I don't think you'll be in any condition to play board games after I'm through with you ; )

  • I'd send you a plane ticket right now, but I'm guessing "Ms Moody Mellerina" might not correspond with the details in your passport.

  • and that's 4 minutes and 17 seconds of entertainment :-)

  • Nice to know I wasn't wasting 4:17 of anyone's life.

  • I need some of what you're on

  • It's called south african pride

  • ... and about 3,000 other colloquial names.

One of those drunken party games: How many euphemisms can you come up with for the giggle twig?

On your marks.... get set...... GO!

  • dagga

    vitamin green

    ganja

    lag tabak

    kakpraat twak

    waarheidsblaar

    etc lol

  • maruana

    boom

    swazi

    zol

    weed

  • You're probably going to enjoy the one where I fire up Beatnik Bob's bong.

  • Funny stuff!

  • Thanks. We do it for comments like this.

  • nice ground herbs, I would have never thought of that! genious!!!!

  • Thanks, Jeff. I've been experimenting very broadly. It's remarkable (and kinda scary) to find out just how well certain things burn. The kitchen is a veritable pyromaniac's treasure-chest.

(Don't want to spoil the surprise, but stay tuned for some unusual ember-catchers.)

  • great video. but we miss your lady friend.

  • She chosses her projects carefully to avoid *ahem* overexposure.

    More footage "in the can".

    Will post soon.

  • AWESOME AGAIN!!! Love the lead up to the fire!

But you guys do smoke herb differently than we do here.

  • Thanks Mike. Yeah, I'm finally learning the discipline of brutal editing. Leaving about 90% of the footage on the "cutting-room floor " seems to work for me.

I'll be talking in another video about the various smouldering herbs which people have taken to smoking. The alkaloids that confer the psychactive effects also help to ensure a decent ember. There is an interesting theory that tobacco and cannabis were originally cultivated as fire-starters. The recreational value was discoverd accidentally

  • Lately I have been leaving 100% of the footage on the cutting room floor, hence no vnew videos. LOL!

    Nice history lesson!

  • I know that feeling. They start out as great ideas, and end....

    Well, just end.

  • fire is fun!

of course, extreme dishwashing also has my interest peeked :P

  • look up extreme teethbrushing. brandon hardesty has a pretty fun channel

  • hmmm sounds interesting except for this lil phobia I have of not liking to watch people brush their teeth LOL

  • Which seems to have lost its way a little recently....

  • Confession:

In my life, "extreme dishwashing" refers to the elaborate bargains I make to avoid the acrtivity completely.

  • :45 seconds...... you cheeky bahstahd!!

    :)

    Always hilarious sir 5/5!

  • Until I actually watched one of the Jamie Oliver programs recently, I just assumed the girls were so enthusiastic about it because the title "The Naked Chef" was meant literally.

  • This one was great, very funny. :D

  • Thanks.

    More on the way.

  • Us Robs must have a good sense of humor. I am truly amazed that you aren't more famous. These are hilarious.

  • Hey Rob

If a country (e.g. S. Africa) is not affiliated with the YouTube partner program, it is especially difficult to get noticed (for all sorts of mundane reasons related to their search algorithms).

I'm relying on the fact that if people find the video entertaining enough they will send it on to their friends. Email, share, favourite, whatever.

So far it does seem to be working.

In the meantime I'll just keep making videos. And try to make them entertaining.

  • cool!

  • Shweet.

  • I heard NASA was headed once again for the Moon. They could save a lot of fuel by flying to South Africa instead, where I think I just witnessed a closer moon. (You do live in South Africa, don't you? lol)

  • Judicious editing was required to prevent traumatising sensitive viewers.

  • You, sir, are a master of the English language, lol.

  • Old Mrs Ridgeway (bless her departed soul) would be very pleased to hear you say that.
