  • Happy Birthday Instant Karma- WOW- written and recorded on 1/27/1970. Folks I wonder how there can be hateful posts on a thread about a peaceful man. Re; Yoko- you don't have to "get her" John did and that's what's important. As far as those who dislike this video- cool good for them.. I hope they find music that fills their soul and have and happy peaceful day.

  • does anyone know who the basist is in this video. @ 2:15 2:45

  • Yeah, what is Ono trying to prove, other than she's weird?

  • Karma will bite that person that disliked this song right in the ass.

  • cant stand yoko ono, she ruined the beatles!

  • John was shot and taken away from us by a fkn pig, let me know if they ever set that Chapman free, because then he will die like a pig for taking this beautifula man away. Yes thats a death threat.

  • only Yoko Ono would think it's a good idea to wear a maxi-pad on her face

  • oh man, you don't know why yoko was there? love is all there is. it's gonna get you.

  • John singing live with echo effect, band miming and John wearing headphones to hear the original sound recording playback.

  • watch?v=dpMILYByWjQ a new edited version of this song, please view and give opinions, it's my first edit.

  • Is he singing along to a prerecording?

  • No peaking from under that blindfold 2:49 there....(︶︿︶(

  • love the echo sound here.....so glad that Yoko's mike was off.....a classic

  • billzygmant.co.uk

  • Hey, my mate Bill Zygmant was in the studio taking still photographs at this recording

  • Great song. It's just a shame that he didn't leave Yoko Omo back in the dressing room. Same old crap, PEEEEEEEEEEACE!

  • THAT MOTHAPUCKIN PERSON WHO DISLIKE THIS VEDIO IS A MOTHAFUCKIN DIE HARD FANS OF JUSTIN BIEVER

  • 1 dislike was Yoko NOno

  • Whats with the delay?

  • Definitely love Elvis but John Lennon is the real King of Rock n Roll...Amen to that?

  • @JoviBlink The bassist was Klaus Voorman. The artist that did the Revolver cover. A talented guy.

  • {CLASSIC!}

  • Yes Yoko's mic was turned off.....well you couldn't spoil a great song like this with her caterwauling all over it could you? John would NEVER have let that happen!! LOL!!

  • Yoko didn't know that hers microphone was switched off... -.-''

  • It's no mistake that Yoko's mike isn't on!

  • @SuperIntuitive1 Coincidence?... I think not! lol.

  • pure genious

  • that one dislike is probably for yoko

  • who doesnt love john....

  • @TheNayNay826 the guy that dislikes this video.Hes a bitch.

  • @MultiGlimmer I love the video, but since ya gotta be rude about it

  • AH Yes - and Justice, she is Blind- but my her fingers are mighty BUSY !

  • When was this TV broadcast?

  • Perfect clip. At this point (1970) it could be argued that Top Of The Pops was as iconic as the music on it - that "cage" set with the groovy chicks, the DIY stage backdrop - as cool as music television got.

  • This song was written, recorded and released in just ten days. Good going John.

  • WOW...England, Japan and Germany on the same stage...It's quite funny when you think that only 25 years before, the idea of people from these nations having a sing-song on national T.V would have seemed unlikely. Here they are. THIS is a promotion for peace already. We are all just human...You get shitty evil fuckers and real nice people. It's not race...It's parenting basically!

  • one question... what the hell is yoko doing? Especially at about 52 seconds. I'm not saying I hate her or anything but on some she plays keyboard or something so why doesn't she do that.

  • @5COT5MAN thankfully some brave BBC Engineer had the presence of mind to switch off her mic before she started her Play School presenter routine. However she's got an interesting cure for those dark circles under the eyes that we all get in the morning ;)

  • @anthonythirteen LOL. I think the secret to this recording is: The ONLY live part is John's Vocal. They would have taken the original multitrack tape...taken out John's vocal and made a master backing tape to give to the BBC. John is wearing headphones to hear this backing track AND to hear his own voice caked in the reverb effect he loved so much. A singer singing live on Top of The Pops is rare! Yoko does look silly singing into a dead mic...Surely she knew? Peace

  • @laosandburma I've read that musicians on certain drugs tend to prefer a certain sound - I think this heavy reverb sound is when they are toying with LSD or cocaine? My only grievence with Yoko here is that she should've been ready with the sanitary towels before the track started - v unprofessional! I certainly don't think she split the Beatles or Lennon's first marriage. He messed those up on his own.

  • Bass player is Klaus Voorman for whoever thought otherwise.

  • yeah, i mean if she were really so terrible, wouldn't that say something about john lennon for loving her? how can you, in the same breath, hate her and love john.. it doesn't add up - if you're going to idolize the man you should accept that he believed in her and couldn't give a crap what people like yourself think about her

  • Just remember: John Lennon loved and respected Yoko. When you malign her, you disrespect him. RIP John: you were an incredible talent that left this planet all too soon. The world wasn't the same after you arrived, and was never the same after you left.

  • Anti-Yoko people are ignorant & tiresome. Yoko Ono already had established her creative reputation long before having met John Lennon as a member of Fluxus (Google that, if you don't know what it is). If this weren't the case, she wouldn't time & time again be shown at major art institutions (MoMA, etc.). John (Ringo & George) all played w her as Plastic Ono Band. She's JL's widow, save your ire. Imagine what she's been through. Stop blaming her alone for the Beatles' breakup. Do some research.

  • @FRONTIERSPERSON But she wouldn't thank you for sticking up for her.... She thinks nothing of people that insult her and further nothing of people who compliment her. She doesn't suffer fools gladly. Complicated lady...OR just clever? She was as soft as a mushy peas inside but looked like a hard boiled egg outside.... OR is it OUR own minds that see that? Her facial features say EGG... You get her chatting about a film, book or what colour the wall should be and you'll see the mushy peas.

  • @FRONTIERSPERSON All I am saying is give peas a chance!

  • he looks so gorgeous in this video!!! we still miss you john ... 30 years .... :'(

  • Ono did nothing, she could not do anything unless john wanted her too. You have to blame the source. He found her married her and included her in everything , he did. He was the famous one not her. She was just happy to be in America. Tragic death and a great loss.

  • RIP John.. not forgotten

  • Ono is such a DOPE.

  • i fuckin' hate yoko. terrible bitch that did ride on the genius and success of john lennon. but john you were just a own class man, awesome .the world is waiting for such a messiahs like him . he braought light in the darkness

  • Yoko ruined this whole scene here......what was her use???

  • @oLdSkOoLkisS i love yoko !! she's awesome

  • It's amazing how much talented John Lennon and the Beatles were, they wrote songs like pancakes

  • Absolute vintage -we will never see the likes of this again.

  • ILL LOVE THE singing .. @ 2.39,40 41... 'ou- r -um'.......JOHN LENNONS MUSIC fields FOR EVER.....PLEASEplease me to WAlking on thin ice

  • " embedding disabled by request" - eat my ass

  • Lennon is eternal. he may not be here in the flesh. But his music, art, and words are here forever.

  • Happy Birthday John!!! We all miss you!

  • Happy birthday John! :D

  • I wish Yoko would have wrapped that rag around her mouth...she is just awful

  • Yoko looks ridiculous.

  • @weenyone she does but John loved her

so that's good enough for me...no one even comes close to john lennon.

  • @weenyone agree ... a bit pretentious don't you think

  • magnificent.

  • John Lennon makes us all life live as someone as a karmic human being. I have witnessed many beautiful human beings assainated. He was truly the most crazy and amazing of all of them.I still have grief when I examine his life.

  • @vic1161 you are so right

  • @1west72ndstreet I didn't say it very well but you got it. Like family member that has long ago passed just looking at these vids make me miss him all over again. There will never be another man like him!!!!

  • Awsome song. John Lennon is the greatest

  • THE FIFTH BEATLE PLAYING THE TAMMAIRNE

  • He was blown out his boots when I was six , RIP John !

  • R.I.P John Lennon you are loved and missed by many!!!!! YOCO ONO you're a freak I hate you!!!!!!! You tore John lennons family apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pure genius!

  • Is that BP Fallon playing the tamborine?

  • @kickpedal He is Mal Evans, former Beatles road manager, bouncer, sets stage equipment, just about everything the Beatles requested, he did.

  • @yerblues1968 ..??? take another look especially at 1:37. He is standing right between John and Yoko. I know what Mal looks like, he is a bigger fellow with thick framed glasses..that's not him playing tamborine.

  • @kickpedal Yeah definitely not Mal Evans. Don't know who said that.

  • @kickpedal BP Fallon is playing bass guitar. Mal Evans is playing the tambourine.

  • @kickpedal The John Lennon DVD Lennon Legend: The Very Best Of John Lennon contains the BBC clip of Lennon's song Instant Karma which was broadcast by Top Of The Pops on February 12 1970.

  • @kickpedal This footage was believed lost and was only discovered recently. The Plastic Ono Band, from left to right: John Lennon [vocals & piano], Yoko Ono [knitting & Kotex eyewear], the Beatles' road manager Mal Evans [tambourine], BP Fallon [bass guitar], the Apple Records official House Hippy Richard DiLello [camera], Klaus Voorman [bass guitar] and Alan White [drums].

  • @yerblues1968 Three versions of Instant Karma were filmed on the same day. There is a clip where Mal is playing Tambourine and 'Beep' is playing bass but on this take Beep is on tambourine and Mal isn't.

  • @RodCow Hey man, thanks. After taking a more closer look, even BP is not wearing his hat and furry vest while playing bass, which is different from this take. Yoko seems to be more on this take. Even Mal is not on it. Klaus Voormann is more visible here. Klaus designed the Beatles Revolver album cover. The take I was referring to was the one uploaded by jigowatts, where Mal is actually in and playing the tambourine. Interesting piece of history regarding the videos.

  • @RodCow Mal is on the bass. Next week he'll be playing the triangle. ;)

  • @yerblues1968 Mal Evans played tambourine on at least one of the Instant Karma videos, but that's not him here - I don't know who it is.

  • @favorsham The question was answered. Thank you though. I was looking at another version of the video. These videos of John Lennon are invaluable.

  • @favorsham The tambourine player in this video is Fred Tinkle.

  • today on bbc 4 there will be a top of the pops john lennon special and after that a soap/serie of john lennon's life after the beatles.

  • Alan White did this track justice!!!

  • where the beatkes still together when he recorded this?

  • Thank god yoko's mic is turned off

  • LOVE this version!!! also funny that Yoko's mike is turned off!! thanks for posting this!!

  • @MsJune54 So is John's. He mimed this. :)

  • One of John Lennon's coolest songs ever! I miss him.

  • Interesting fact... the title of "Th Shining" originates from this song. Stephen King said once that the line "we all shine on" inspired him. Kinda cool. Awesome song, just a bit of a shame he wasn't with us longer. Peace.

  • lennon > kobain

  • A true artist ahead of this time....

  • miss ya john

  • WTH does Yoko have across her eyes? A kotex with strings? Why the mike? She grabs it a couple of times...but never says anything till the end? And thank heavens we don't have to hear her. I love John & respect he loved her..but I despise the minger. John, we sure miss you.

  • the flange effect was that on purpose?

  • It sounds like he and the band were playing along to the original studio recording. This is a very cool video that I don't remember seeing before, and I was a teenager then.

  • go johnny gogo

  • Reading The Lives of John Lennon, says that this was a great performance. He got that right. Imagine. He says famous title song is a hippie wishing well of pennyweight dreams for a better world - a far cry from the searing vision of the Primal Scream album. Imagine suffers from a piano accompainiment as monotonous as a student in a practise room and a vocal delivery with a hook-shoulder turn as feeble as hymn sung in a Quaker parlour. I started to think this guy is wrong.

  • lennon is great. everything sounds great. what is yoko's purpose? i think its hilarious her microphone is completely off. lol thank god

  • WE ALLL SHINE ON

  • yea i nkow what a copy

  • great man. his voice is like a sunset. all you can feel is peace.

  • It sounds pretty angry here

  • such an amazing man. May he rest in peace. He was great I love his music. He was good with tthe beatles and grew well without them.

  • I was only on the same Earth and under the same sky as this man for 5 months. Thanks for the music though John.

  • @clarissaharlow You're privileged. I never was. May he rest in peace.

  • @clarissaharlow lucky you, I was born 12 years after some moron killed him

  • @clarissaharlow 25 years for me. :(

  • @clarissaharlow i was in my car when I got the news,,,,hasd to pull over..pain was overing

  • This guy was amazing.

  • This is the version I was looking for. I love the drum fills. Lennon was before my time, but he is awesome. Just looking at his face makes me feel at peace.

  • There's something about that echo that unites everyone in the room.

  • Great performance by John and his band. Phil Spector's production kicks this right up into the perfect dimension.

  • thats irish legend b.p. fallon on tamborene.

  • gd for u

  • I love you John!

  • glad yoko's mic was off! lol

  • Powerhouse live vocal. Sweet.
