thanks for the video, i have a laptop and my drive gradually faded away, first it didnt accept cd's and then it started to not recognise dvd's either, so i bought a cd cleaner kit cos i thought the lens might be dirty, but that didn't work, also on my device manager, it says tha it's working properly, so i should get my drive fixed? would that be right? :)

@GershomAguinaldo You need a disc drive that can read DVD-RW New updated drivers can read it. Most can only old ones can't, I suggest you buy a new disc drive.
@Th3Ukn0wnOrignal the problem is that im using a laptop HP Pavilion dv6000, all i can do is to find the right update for this... im not sure how but i must find a way... u can help to solve this problem... don't know why my CD-Drive can't read any of the cd except DVD-R... :(
@GershomAguinaldo Ok, the only thing I could suggest is doing this, Go to Start - My Computer (Right click) - Properties - Device Manger - DVD/ CD-Roms drives - Find your drive and right click and go to Properties and then go to driver at the tool tool bar, Click Update Driver and from their it may update. It will ask you if you want to manualy update or automaticaly update the driver. Click Automatic and it will tell you if your 100% Up to date.

I have had to reset my computer back to factory defaults and just installed windows vista service pack 1 which made my dvd drive have a code 19 registry files damaged when I try to reinstall it it fails, this is the result of windows vista service pack 1 because it did it the first time I installed service pack 1 but I managed to fix it. I try DVD-R no problem but when i try the other Disc it didn't work or read... instead it shows burn disc or no files...
its works find with DVD-R but other Disc like DVD-RW or +R or any disc....

My CD-ROM drive communicates with the computer, it ejects when I tell it to, but it won't read a thing. DVD's, CD's, just about anything...does this sound like a dead drive?

@sajannnnnnn I would LOVE to help man, but I got my own "can of worms." I gave up and bought a external CD-Rom/DVD player (ASUS SDRW-080 IS-U) and now my computer stopped launching games!!! It installs the bloody thing, but when I go to open the game, it just keeps spinning the wheel and freezing up.
WHY DID I GIVE AWAY MY BLOODY XBOX 360!!!!???? lol.

Here is my prob. my cd/dvd RW drive is recognized by my system but when ever I load a blank cd.dvd my hole system shuts down and reboots, it might do this 2 or 3 time before it allow me to use it if it does at all. What could be the possible problem.

I have had to reset my computer back to factory defaults and just installed windows vista service pack 1 which made my dvd drive have a code 19 registry files damaged when I try to reinstall it it fails, this is the result of windows vista service pack 1 because it did it the first time I installed service pack 1 but I managed to fix it. I'm using an acer 2910z laptop with a 32bit version of vista home premium and I have a "HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device" which is my dvd drive

Mine will read DVD's but not cd's or programs and when ever I put A CD in it will make a really loud buzzing nois and the fan will be going off hard and if i put a program in it would make it louder and once the buzzing didn't stop

if you deteled the UpperFilter on the Registry editor, than you;ll get that mssge from iTunes,
all you need to do to fix it is, install or update your iTunes!

When I click eject it's working, there is no question mark or exclamation point in device manager but my dvd rom doesn't read any type of disc. Maybe someone had the same problem and can tell me what is the problem?
