I've listened to this album from 1989 to 1992 every week! Cannot stand all the other NO album, but this one really sounds like Joy Division, with less suffering and despair maybe.
A criminally underrated album, got this In early 1996 and I played it on repeat for at least a month! Personally, their worst album is Waiting For The Siren's Call, very poor for sonic architects.
HA HA, the argentinian band called sumo had a song called "divididos por la felicidad"(divided by joy), (joy division) which is exactly the same, but It had a different bridge, a sax, and more bass with an electronic drum kit
Who cares what the initials stand for? I have loved this song for long enough without the question even seriously occurring for me. Do they seem like a band - did JD ever - seem like a band who cared that much about personalities?
@locomotifx More genius insight from a true JD fan, thank you for your remarlks!!!! Funny, I had a mix tape on that had Age of Consent and Love Will Tear Us aApart, and I was struck happily by the similarity!!!! Sadly, without Hannett, New Order drifted into nowhere, but hey, considering Movement, small surprise. Hear JD demos sans Hannett and wince at the difference between Atmosphere studio release and Atmosphere demo, etcccccc! Hannett, on top of the New Wave
@kidcresh Hannett was a genius! everthing he produced was magic even Happy Mondays Bummed album! & its their best!! only thing I did't get what he did was the early stone roses songs!! which are still legandry maybe he was going for a live feel! but New order did make good albums without him up to 1989 IMO!! R.I.P Ian Curtis, Martin Hannett, Rob Gretton, & Tony Wilson!
I think the guitars should have not been so downplayed given this is the most upbeat track on the album behind Dreams Never End, but otherwise I can't fault it. This was initially my least favourite of the eight songs on Movement, but I've since come to love it. Who else listens to the live versions and misses the sonar bleep that grows in intensity through the song before fading into the distance?
i would like to invite everyone to see the song "dividos por la felicidad" by sumo. i hope you enjoy this fucking version that is sure based on this song.write your opinions
@boardy777777 Nonsense, Brotherhood is New Order's best album. Particularly if you listen to it on your computer with the sound turned right down, whilst Closer is playing at extreme volume on your stereo. Give it a try, I defy you to disagree with me. Another little tip for gratis, actually remove Brotherhood from its cover and replace it with Closer or anything else for that matter. This works equally well with all formats, I've found.
@boardy777777 How very dare you! Have you never heard the incredible Shellshock? Undoubtedly the best Stock, Aitken & Waterman produced record never made. A little known New Order story; the band contacted Ian Curtis via an ouija board, seeking his approval (which he gave 100%) for the recording of World In Motion. When the track was completed they contacted him again & he said & I quote verbatim; "Fuck, I wish I was still alive so I could have done the John Barnes rapped part." I kid you not!
@MisAnnThorpe i like you !! but your full of s..te darlin .joy division are the soul of new order and thats it , ians legacy is movement nothin else !!!
@boardy777777 Feel I should perhaps mention at this point that no one outside of the band has been able to corroborate this story. In fact the usually very approachable & erudite Peter Hook himself, when I tried to broach this subject with him, appeared to become visibly upset & said to me "Fuck off you can't......" Alas I was unable to catch the last part of the sentence, although he did catch my jaw with a left hook (pun(ch) intended, on his part anyway). Probably had a bad day at the Factory.
@boardy777777 I always hear people say this, but Ian responded to a Warsaw ad for vocalist and initially Ian just did regular sounding punk vocals. Yes he contributed to the band's movement into a different sound, but most of that sound is thanks to Stephen morris' electronic / dance drum which serves a spine for their style. Then there's Peter hook's catchy, unconventional, and sometimes simple bass lines. And Sumner wrote a lot of these songs so no Ian Curtis was not the foundation of the band
@MisAnnThorpe Honey you a twat shut your moronic beak and fuck off back to your"UNI" in which you failed your final exams your not clever and your not fuckin amusing

I like both J.D & N.O, but I dont masturbate at Ian Curtis wedding photos, & you're the kind of retard that loves to go on about how great I.C & J.D are just coz you were told it makes sound "smart", you probably found out about joy division either by the movie (that inmense turd "control") or cos some of those talentless bands from these days(the killers, the editors...everyone sporting retarded hair ,guitars & token synths) made a cover version and/or mentioned J.D as musical influence.

what are you talking about fuckwad, this song was entirely composed after I.C was dead and buried, Its Bernard Sumner who mostly accounts for this song greatness, of course he is not half as cool, he is more like your ordinary english chav with some gay manners.
This whole album is so awesome. I am not ashamed of admitting that New Order was my favourite music of the 80's. It was so ahead of it's time - that's why it's so easy to listen to now. Great videos champ!
yeah songs like ceremony and of course blue monday itself, they could be released new today and no one would see it as outdated. Infact I'd even say they sound more modern than some of the most popular artists atm
Good on you, YouWInOneInternets! Cheers for agreeing. Glad to hear that from someone else, as i am bias. YouTube has made it easy to get some great New Order music ... even un-released stuff. Awesome!! ;)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but dosnt this song stand for "ian curtis buried", which i think represents this transition period before new order got to mainly 4 on the floor dance tracks.
Well done to whoever found this gem of a track. One of my favourites... love the dark, brooding sound of the transition from Joy Division to New Order.
No reason I was given.

Sounds like anything from Closer but with a misfiring synth drum in the studio. Did Hannett produce this ? It's very tempting to switch it off !!!

This and Power, Corruption, and Lies are brilliant.
This is pretty much the 3rd JD album, although a hint of NO's future makes this a fascinating mix of both.

Now define dark bunch of nitwits. 'Dark' was the adjective used by people who didn't grasp such music. Dark what? Blue? Clean? Neat? Emotional? Deep?
Listen to the music and its emotion, instead of over using that 'oh gee it's dark'
