This is by far my favorite knife that I've ever owned under $50. It definitely needs sharpened from the box if you want a razor edge but overall it is very nice. Feels great in the hand and I honestly believe they could easily be selling this knife for $75+ . As said in the video, aside from the factory edge, the pocket clip doesn't clip on very easily due to the rubber grip. That's my biggest complaint.
@QuietBearr He also said "Don't move so much", which is called "advice". If you weren't such a spaz, maybe you would have read the rest of his sentence before replying.
Thanks for the review, very helpful and well done. If I can add some input, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but the grips on the back of the handle are actually a pretty helpful feature, especially for a knife with a swept blade. I personally am more comfortable with either a reverse or an icepick grip and those grips become perfect for the thumb when the knife is upside down.
Note to consumer: The thing fell off my lap and onto some concrete, I know, very dumb. The lever actually broke off (flug somewhere, it was lost) and now it is just a flat piece of metal as the lever, so your finger gets used to it with time. I still use and love this knife no matter what, using the thumb stud to open it is still great and, like the video says is a little faster than the lever (for some people). The stainless steel quality is not the best, but who cares, it's an awesomeknife
is this considered a "switchblade" since the MAGIC system does allow it to come out very quickly. i want to buy one but it if its considered a switchblade, at least in my area, thats illegal.
Its the new M&P, the L stands for Large lol. How cool, a larger version, different blade shape and different safety as well, great looking knife, I cant wait to get it, its in the mail now, should have it in about a week or so depending on UPS's fat lazy schedule.
i would put the safety on if i knew i would be around children, just incase that they somehow get a hold of it, u may be able to spot them before they open it of figure out the lock. i have this same knife but in a dessert brown coloring, although the rubber piece is still black and it says SWMP 1BSD on the bottom of the blade. i like this knife a lot and i usually keep it my back pocket (b/c my cara cara is in the front) flap of the cargo pocket that fastens the pocket over it, but not buttoned
No, its not technically fixed to the handle, and it is just assisted not an automatic, There is a video on YouTube explaining the difference, actually by someone from Taylor Brands.
You have to take price into concideration. All of mine are still locking solid and still have no play. Their steels could be better, but then they would be more expensive as well. I bet you couldnt find a $30 assisted opener that beats a S&W.
Yea maybe they are not on par with the nicer brands, but they do have nicer prices.
Thats one word, and if you are talking about the OSO sweet, I dont think it is any better or worse than S&W. There more expensive stuff may be better, but their cheaper stuff is certainly not.
For $10 more I would much rather have a Shallot, Scallion/Chive (which is much smaller have to admit but I love it), or leek. And the O So sweet has a great finish + I love the scales.
Whatever, like I said, its about preference, and preference plays no part in price or brand quality, it is just preference. For low cost knives, S&W leads the pack, and I dont consider Kershaw to be in the low cost category, considering half their products are in the $75 or above category.
By the way good poitns on the steel, alot of us are guilty of being steel snobs, lol but even good steels are only as good as the heat treat...I have had S30V that just ddint perform that great and 420HC that was awesome! like mentioned Buck does a great job with their 420HC...
Its all about heat treat, not the steel. THe best steels can be as soft as butter if not heat treated (well not as soft as butter but you get the point)
I love em, best value knife company IMO, have had several and they are always having a tight lockup and no blade play even months or years later. COuld do with better steel, but good for the money
Hey dude. Are you out of control with your movements? I would be afraid I'd cut myself...Relax a bit before you castrate yourself...

It`s strange that they don`t call hollow grinds
"concave grinds," especially when we use its antonym; "convex grind."
potatoheadhaoy 6 months ago
just so you know, the steel is a stainless, but its actually 4034 krupp, which alot like the 440a/420hc you guessed. thought you'd like to know

eragonbooklover725 1 year ago
@eragonbooklover725 100% not a switchblade, it is legal to own anywhere a knife that size is legal to own.
Doesnt have anything to do with how fast a blade depoloys.
QuietBearr 1 year ago
@QuietBearr than what deems a knife a switchblade?
eragonbooklover725 1 year ago
@eragonbooklover725 The 1958 Act defines a "switchblade" as
a type of folding knife which (1) opens automatically as a result of
pressing a button located in the handle, or (2) opens through gravity or
inertia. There is also pending legislation that has been presented into
Congress that will help to clarify once and for all the legality of
assisted opening knives.
This is not a button in the handle.
QuietBearr 1 year ago
it opens faster with the thumb stud because you are putting more force to open it than the assisted opening.....
djcodogg23 1 year ago
blade reminds me of the sigtac ptero a bit. and wow I never even saw the tanto version of this knife!
Severator 2 years ago
Yea if you like tantos, both versions are better looking than this, I dont like tantos as much, and they are still pretty hot.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
where did u order it from? i went to S&W's website but i only saw like 10 knives =[ and i can't remember if any of them was the one ur talking about
john1112112 2 years ago
Well, just about every knife seller online has them, go to google and do a product search, there are tons of them.
And S&W doesnt have a site, only their parent company Taylor brands, you can find a link to them in the description, all the S&W knives are in there.

The SWMP1 is the model number, BSD is for the Black blade (B) Serrations (S) Desert brown (D).
So its the same knife just a different coloring.
Wait till you see the SWMP4L, you may have to go buy one of those instead!
QuietBearr 2 years ago
so with that flipper thing fixed to the handle wouldn't this be considered a switchblade?
