  • Rest In Piece Mr. Phillips

    Janurary 28th, 1936 - August 23rd, 2010

He lived in Canton, North Carolina, near my hometown.

  • Thank you soo much for the post! I found this just for my grandma..lol Five stars for her :)

  • This was Dolly's first real break, written by Dolly and her uncle Bill (not Bill Phillips). It won an award for the BMI Song of the Year in 1966. Everyone soon started wondering who the background singer was, obviously. It wasn't hard to see she out-shined Bill in this recording.

  • @pippigirl Dolly outshines everyone she sings with. Bill is no exception. I think he holds his own pretty well and blends with her very nicely. I just recently discovered Bill Phillips, though I've heard this song done by others. This version is by far the best one. It's a shame he didn't get more songs as strong as this one to record.

  • This is a great song. Loved it the first time I heard it on The Wilburn Bros. Show. I didn't know Dolly co wrote it till today.

Dolly did a song on the Porter Wagoner Show called: Gypsy, Joe, & Me. Just her & a guitar. If someone has it I would love to see it posted. Thanks for the great music. I hope these videos never die!
