I didn't care much for the shining. I don't see why it gets so much hype, its a little spooky, but once its at least partially explained its no longer spooky and it becomes a little pointless

It's not necessarily that it's spooky, but it is a psychological thriller. It really starts to make you think about what you would do in that situation and how you would handle yourself. Would you kill your family? Wouldn't you? It's all about how you react to the main character.

the shining was really not scary or worth watching. I even watched it by myself. in the dark.

and vivian kubrick's documentary is on youtube. It says on wikipedia that the main actors were totally stressed out by the director, and I really got a sense of that from the documentary.

Kubrick tends to either wrap a good movie into a "WTF?" pakage, or have a fantastic movie with moments of "WTF?" the shining was one of the latter. it's one of my top 3 kubrick films ( with Full Metal Jacket, and A Clockwork Orange above it) and in my top 10 fav horror films.

I think the scene when the blood comes outta the elevator in that move is one of the most psychologically and emotionally disturbing things ever filmed. It pretty much sums up the entire movie in a way, and just how it all happens in slow motion really gets to me for some reason, and I'm the kind of guy who goes to Friday the 13th movies and cracks up when they show that really graphic stuff.

I love The Shining! Great movie. You think the old black guy is going to save them, and then he bites it as soon as he walks in the door, and the twins, and the naked lady in the tub, and the elevator spilling out all the blood. Awesome! The book rocked too.

I also saw the MOV version that King wrote the screenplay for, and it did nothing for me.

To say that it's a classic simply because Jack Nicholson was the star... I'd say with his amazing performance combined with Stanley Kubrick's "ahead of his time" directing that made this movie amazing. And I'd say it was Kubrick more then anything, everything the man touched turned to gold cinema wise. brilliant director.

I totally agree the shining was and still is one of the BEST Thriller films out there!!!! Up untill they tried to remake it....and totally ruined the concept! I mean Steven Weber as the iconic role that Jack played..sure i loved steven in Reefer Madness...but in horror? NO!!! Also it was a tv mini series...Kindom hospital was a great Tv series..! the first friday the thirteen usually. Maybe the second and the third. The other ones are not. Also, the shining is considered to be one of the best movies by Stanley Kubric, as well as a masterpiece in horror. Resident Evil, by the other hand, sucks from any possible angle. Exept for Hotness, since it has Milla Jovovic. Also, dont try and say that movies such as "Jason X" or "Freddy Vs. Jason" where great, because those are the 2 worst Jason movies

The Shining is perhaps one of the best horror films ever made. It deviates from the book, but it does this for good reason. It leaves things ambiguous and missing to speak to the viewer on a subversive level as opposed to walking them through the story.
