I was actually at their show in Charlotte, NC on May 9th at the beginning of their tour. Awesome. He actually sang better live on some of songs like Videotape than he did on the record. Amazing man. I wish I could meet him and tell him how much of an inspiration he has been.
In fact, I can truly fathom the thought that Radiohead decided to sound tired or perhaps beaten down from their excruciating tour that began on May 5th in Florida and then went on to Europe and back for the final leg of the North American Tour.
4 months tour with almost 5 weeks of break in between? Come on, that's not sooo ecxruciating, it's just the consequences of touring in the past (OK Computer tour lasted almost a year!), so it's possibly as good as can be.
P.S. The sound on the videos in this webcast is in no way the way the actual performance sounded. The real show was brilliant and much more filled with the usual Radiohead fanfare~
When I saw this show from the pit I was amazed by every second of it. It seemed surreal and of course I was sad when it was done.
Yes, Thom's voice was strained and Ed looked like he was gonna have a screaming hissy fit at any given moment...but it was all so unbelievably perfect anyway....just like all things Radiohead always are....
does anyone have any idea what jonny is doing at 3:13 to 3:18, he seems to be waving his hand above the guitar's pickups, I've seen some other guitarists do it as well
I was there but unfortnutely only saw the last 45 minutes of Radiohead's set due to traffic leaving LA and finding parking near the bowl, But what a 45 minutes of music. Totally inspiring and I have seen Radiohead already several times.
aside from organizing albums in stores, genres really serve no purpose. I prefer not to name what radiohead is doing, because i'd just strain to find a word for it and waste another minute not listening to the music itself. Radiohead themselves hate prog and britpop and every other lame title lumped on them in an attempt to explain what they've done. You can't. And yes, I do know more about music than you if you'd make a statement like that.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the performance but their is an obvious amount of strain and holding back on his vocal range and sustain. Anyone who can't recognise that hasn't heard this song sung to it's full potential.
No, i have, I had similar doubts about thoms voice earlier in the tour, but his performances recently have dispelled all of that. I was at this show, and maybe it's a shoddy recording, but he sounded just as great as he did in the Kid A era. This isn't a vocal-intensive song anyway.
yeah i love when he gets all crazy and just sings which is basically every show. but its almost better when hes singing outta key and retartedly yells you don't remember
I would so love if Ed made a solo work.

I wonder what the band members are thinking when thom sings silly.

Phil and Johnny definately saved the ending chorus. Johnny was intense in the lead part.

Last show of the current tour. It always goes a bit "down South" towards the end... it was golden at the start.

i'll admit he's good, but he definitely is better with his brother, colin. they compliment each other well. i don't think he's the best though.

I was at the concert - I was actually surprized at how good Thom's voice was, given how much of a workout it's had lately. The show was awesome!

The rain down part... he singed it diferently, with lots of feeling (More than usual! And he usually poors his heart out on stage.). I almost cried.

Finally some live footage that gives Jonny the airtime he deserves.
