What are you using as a controller? Instead of using a converted alternator I've been considering using a permanent magnet motor and a Dc-Dc converter when I'm pedalling with an automatic switch to change over to my LiPo4Fe battery when I'm tired or from a standing start. I figure that way I'd get the best from both forms of energy.
A controller doesn't exists! It only comes 6Volts over a diode to the rotor coil. The diode is needed, if I pedal faster, so I can get a higher voltage than 6Volt to the rotor and of course a higher output from the 3phases..... That means also, I MUST PEDAL for driving, a driving without pedaling is not allowed by law!
I just came across this charge controller on ebay that will allow me to run on pedal power and then when it produce more power then the battery can withstand it'll send it directly to the motor. Flexcharge Wind Turbine Charge Controller NC25A-24
For wind, solar, hydro or a hybrid - 24 volt
provuded I only use a 24 volt system. For here in Ontario, Canada thats about the limit our speeds are regulated on electric vehicles to 22 kph. For electric vehicles.
I can't complain about the power of the 4motors, sometimes the tire smokes!
Take a look into my video "LiPO-POWER", there I combine lithium polymer cells with super caps. But in that system I'll work with nominal 37V and a range 32V until 42V.
I work in the industrie, 24V is a good standart Voltage, but the cables example for a hub motor are limited. So I must select a higher Voltage for more Power (P=UxI)
would it be a three phase sprocket if you added 2 more rows of sprockets with magnets that would be staggered behind each one all connected parallel to the alternator. May be that would increase the effort from 150-180 watts up to 450-540 watts that would be faster. Also COSTCO in Maui Hawaii is selling a photovoltaic portable unit that will generate 300 watts just from the sun I'm sure that would be cool. Its only 281.00 EUROS right now
That is an awesome idea. i never thought of that.i have an idea similar but it uses an electric motor to turn 20 or thirty alternators to create a sirplus and store the energy while the car is driving or parked. so u would virtually never have to stop for the period of the lifecycle of the motor. but great idea for a bycicle. really good.
Thanks. If I ride, it doesn't matter what speed, I only pedal the crank in the same speed, that's about 60 to 70 rpm average load! If I wanna stop, I just stop with pedal. Into the cockpit I've got 2 voltmeters(for 2 batteries), then I can see the charge and how much I need to pedal. BUT, to ride always the maximum that doesn't work!!! That impossible, for me and for the motors...
The alternator is a main component of the drive. So against the vibrations that everything is fixed correct. I can control the voltage of the rotor coil exactly, I could say it's very fine muscle controlled!
The power I got from the stator coil, there are 3 phases, then it goes to the voltage doupler & rectifier and last but not least to the batteries.....
I've created a chainring with 99sprockets, thats my biggest one! The mechanics and the electrical power is nearly unlimited, but I only can pedal 150-180watts!!!

I can only pedal 150-180WATTS!!!!!!!!!!! In my new LiPO battery are nearly 6hours of pedaling included, in this time I could be everywhere!
I don't live in Hawaii, I live in Luxembourg and in winter we have only a few hours sunshine. So should I need now an nuclear-powered bike???
If you think a disc with a lot of strong magnetics that's the true, that was my first idea before 3years:
LOWRACER HYBRID / Cobalt-Samarium

Why have you hard wired the alternator?

i wanted to ask why you didnt make sprocket larger?
