He started out on violin first, bass strings go EADG, violin strings go GDAE. Natrually he cradles the bass in that sort of position and it's kinda like violin again

Just a theory, but your hands are most comfortable in that position, it's almost natural, so the load on your wrist is taken away on the plucking side. It actually makes sense. That and the fact that no one else is doing it.

His articulation and attack are Good, you clearly just don't like the way he holds his bass.

They said the same thing about Jamersons technique with the "Hook".

Point being do what works for you and let others play how they want.
