  • I plugged my voodoo2 card into my dos machine. I tried it with an old Trident, SIS and ATI Rage II. It does not go through the voodoo2 card. I tried Alone in the Dark, Wing Commander and TombRaider (demo). I *think* at least one of them supports Glide. The utilities detect it and give its stats properly.

I installed the glide.olv file in my c:\dos directory. didn't help.

I'm at a loss what to try next :(

  • @Hiraghm best bet is to use windows 98 for your needs then start it from there :)

  • @37474748

But I only have DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on that machine.

I'm trying to keep it as pristine as possible for compatibility with other dos-only games and apps.

    Oh well :(

  • @Hiraghm i dont know to much about dos so i cant really help you there... sorry man :P

  • @Hiraghm The DOS games that use GIide usually use special versions of the program. For example, Tombraider I has a special executable that you download and use instead of the normal one. Almost all the DOS Glide games were written for Voodoo I but Voodoo II works. However, the colors may be messed up unless you have some DOS environment variables set, which you need to search the web for the particular game.

  • @Hiraghm

You need to make sure you also have your VESA drivers installed in DOS, not tied to any specific card and all the 3dfx patch for each game, if you want to run glide, it better to have windows 95/98 installed for that, there was no Glide drivers for DOS. You can run windows 95/98 on a different harddrive or different partition. you have to rewrite your BOOTPART

    BOOTPART DOS622 C:\BOOTSECT.622 "MS-Dos 6.22"

    BOOTPART WIN95 C:\BOOTSECT.W98 "Windows 98"

    BOOTPART REWRITEROOT:C:

  • I so wish I could figure out how to talk to modern DirectX/OpenGL cards from DOS... oh well, so long as there's still old cards with glide...

  • @Hiraghm yeah... glide is the best for sure :D

  • PHAIL

  • voodoo cars? lol...

  • @prixthkson Cards :)

  • do you have XP drivers? or even Vista Voodoo drivers that work well ???? link maybe!

  • yes homebrew drivers.....

  • home brew drivers wow that is tough to make.. but people surprize me..

  • yeah man... we wanna keep the old legends alive :D

  • Is the Voodoo overclockable?

  • yes they are :)

  • It is very hard to understand you. Please remove the music. :(

  • alitlle to late now... about 8months late :P

  • Why don't you just get a newer video card instead of using dinosuar hardware?

  • like my core i7 920 with 12GB of memory and dual nvidia 295s running quad sli?

or my e6300 with 4GB of memory running 9800gx2?

or maybe my pentium D 3.4ghz 2GB of mymory running 7900gs....

na i guess its dinosuar stuff....

  • I didn't mean to knock you bro. I think its cool to have old hardware and stuff. I didn't mean to knock you. I wasn't aware you had those systems.

  • its alright man... don't worry shit happens :)

  • will a ATI rage pro turbo card workfine for the agp with voodoos?

  • yes...

  • Can i use any agp card for the 2d??Can i use a Vanta tnt2 or a ATI rage pro turbo??

  • short awnser yes you can :)

  • Great info was wondering how they worked together crazy how technology has changed since those days. 5/5

    Keep the vids coming m8!

    Rick

  • thank you man :) you can also use a floppy cable like i do to make an voodoo sli bridge :)

    works like a charm :D

  • Out of thsi list of agp cards which one would be the best to run with a pair Voodoo2's: 3dfx banshee,Ati rage 128,ati rage turbo 8mb,Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoneix,Vanta TNT2 64,ATI 128 ultra 32mb,Mx 440 or a Matrox milenium g200?

  • yes you can run any card for 2D rendering. But i would perfer an faster card that can take care of movie rendering and stuff like that if your into it.

  • Yeah. <3 Voodoo's flexibility.

    good vid

  • ty!

  • the voodoo drivers for xorg (linux's graphical server) have actually managed to trick the voodoos into rendering the interface using some OpenGL wrapper. I've never actually gotten a chance to use it with an older voodoo, but it works like a charm on a 5500!

  • so your saying that you can just use one single voodoo card? and render 2d materiel like text inside of windows or linux?

you got any links to that?

  • yeah, it only works in linux, but there is an open-source driver packaged for xorg that works that way. I believe the package is named "xserver-xorg-video-voodoo" under debian. The irony here is, that if you do get 2d rendering working like this, you may not have 3d rendering. They say the voodoo2 is poorly supported, and the way its direct rendering interface works is strange.. so nobody bothered to reverse engineer it. Apparently if you have a voodoo3 - voodoo5, they all work perfectly though.

  • alright... i used modified drivers on windows xp to allow d2d opengl and glide rendering from vooodoos. :)

i didn't even bother messing with the 2d rendering stuff so... yeah... :)
