Just got my modfactor and am overwhelmed with the epic possibilities. I'm dialing in your presets because they are way better than the factory ones. Great place to start, thanks
I am having trouble telling if this really sounds THAT much better than the MM4, or if you have just used it much more tastefully than most of the MM4 reviews out there. Either way, it sounds great and I want one!
@officialleader Truth is, I never use it. But if I did it would probably go into the loop if one was available. Otherwise, at the end before delay and reverb.
How did you power it ? I own a DC brick that gives power to 3 distortion and 1 boss twin pedal, do you think the DC brick still have enough power to power the Modfactor ?
Great demo. If you consider the cost of a number of high quality pedals together, the modfactor is reasonably priced. Did a video myself with a synth-like sound coming from the modfactor. Sounds wonderful.
Does this absolutely destroy the Line 6 MM4? Seems like it does, but I got one of those for $65 used and found a few good sounds in there. I still prefer stand-alone pedals, but I'm wondering if I should try to find one of these for around $200 used and just use it for modulation.
Hi there. Great work altogether. I was hoping you could do a complete list of all of your preset settings. If you don't have the time, I'd be happy with whatever you could supply. Thanks in advance.
Hi, Burgerman. I wonder how many effects you can use at once, & how many you can use (at the same time) when loading your own presets? Also, does this thing run on 9V, 12V, or 18V?
Thanks.
BTW, what is this ever growing "666" reference all over the place? What is the point? Are you guys planning to take over, or something?
Next thing you know, li'l Sadie will wait to get her "666 membership card" too, so she can be just like her dad. (She's so cute. lol)
Hmm. Not so sure about the 666 thing. Mine was because my normal handle - Burger - was taken. Being a rebellious Catholic (long since lapsed I'm afraid) I went instantly for the 666 reference to pay pay homage to one of the great early rock 'n roll comedians, Crowley (see: Jimmy Page). That's all. A bit of fun. Silly now, but it's stuck. I think perhaps that some others have lifted the idea as I did.. ?
To answer: 9V, 1 effect. Although some of those effects sound like many. ;) Discover. :)
Would you say this replaces your standalone Chorus, trem, vibrato, etc. pedals? I have some pretty boutique pedals I'm thinking of ditching for the Modfactor. Opinions?? Thanks!
It could, yes. But I'm still preferring dedicated mod pedals. This week it's the HardWire Chorus, Tremonti Phaser and Catalinbread Semaphore. The Eventide's wall wart is a PITA on stage as well. Fraught with danger. I'm hoping Voodoo Lab will release the Versa shortly to help end the gnashing of teeth for a lot of people.
Well, I jammed a Violet Design 'The Amethyst' mic up against the right Celestion Greenback in my EL34 loaded Laney VC50. The mic fed Logic 8 via an M-Audio ProFire 610. Inside Logic I stuck Waves Maserati GTi (THE best guitar plug-in ever - a keen mixture of compression, EQ and limiter) over the track channel and a Waves L2 over the output strip. I bounced at 24bit with Type 1 dithering, synced it to the iMovie video and uploaded it here. Since then I've done stereo clips the same way. Cheers!
The supplied power supply works fine. The issue I have with it is that it's very large, heavy and prone to fall out of the unit at the slightest disturbance. This does not fill me with confidence when on stage and I can't use any 'standard power supply like a Fuel Tank to do the job with confidence either, as Eventide haven't sanctioned them. Once Voodoo Lab release their Versa then things will be a little easier and less fraught with danger. We all hope. :) I bet it's expensive though...
No specific delay or reverb effects, although the Undulator is a strange mixture of both and to many is worth the price of the ModFactor on its own. I believe much of the code is drawn from the H3000 algorithms so, yes, there is some resemblance there. Thanks for watching. :)
the 7.1, 9.1 and 9.2 effects are really cool and funny to combinate with other effects in your pedal board.. but all i got to say is that this eventide modfactor is awesome.. 5 stars
hey mate i've got one in the post and even more excited to get it after your demo. How did you get that Frissel sound on 9.1? Much different to the preset cos i'd love to grab details if you have the time/patience
Hi, this clip was done some time ago and many or all of the presets have been scrubbed during my tweaking sessions at home. I did record for posterity most of the settings at the Eventide forum. Do a search there for 'Modfactor, a few of my settings' and you'll be rewarded. :)
Hey Michel, thanks for the kind words. I'm out of action now due to spinal surgery. I'm not sure how long I'm out for but now it's up to guys like you to carry the flag! Take care, BK. :)
It was guitar to pedals to amp - front end of the amp, not the loop. I mic'd the amp with a Violet Design 'The Amethyst' and fed the signal to Logic where I stuck a limiter on the output. That's it. Thanks for the kind words.
ok burger..... preset 7:1 where its trem/pan but with an envelope sensitivity setting... i cant make mine do it! how've ou got it set.
oh, and i'm sitting in front of a nova modulator and the modfactor... and the modfactor wins hands down. except for the twin engines and the thru-zero flange... that is.
Man, you know what? I posted all of the settings on the Eventide forum and they went and pulled the forum down last week. Aggh!! Of course, I didn't record those settings anywhere else and now dey gone. But...I'll see if I can recreate it tonight and get back to you. So leave it with me for a day. If you don't hear back from me soon, give me a nudge because I do get distracted..
OK, I'm a man of my word so here it is. It must be your lucky day because that setting is only one of three I hadn't scrubbed since the video was shot. I digress...
There's a trick to this one though - you need to push it with a boost or drive for single notes or the envelope will not open up. I used a Blues Pro which you can see the edge of in the clip.
i can compare it to a nova modulator, chorus phaser flanger trem, vbrato are in the same league.
sounds are similar,i'd choose modfactor if i really need wha, ringmod, and midi control, for classic sounds i'd go nova mod.
nova system seems to be a reduced version of all nova together, but again it is a very good combo, check out Pete tThorn, great guitarist for Chris Cornell,he uses it live...
Dude...mean pedal!!!!!! Wonder if you can help me? Steve Vai used a Harmonizer on Passion and Warfare....my question is on his lead tone (Which is the holy grail to me) is he using some sort of Chorus effect on it as his sound always sounds slightly chorusy and fat....(Its really evident on his E,A,B strings.....Im absolutley sure he's using something other than just delay, reverb, and dirt.....i
I think you might find that Mr. Vai was a big fan of the early Eventide stuff, especially the H-3000. That's probably what you're hearing. I'd love one too!
Thanks for the reply BM, I have read he uses the pitch delay technique where he splits the guitar note into 3 giving the impression of a fatter sound, it still doesnt explain the chorus tinge he has on it though.....have you tried the Eventide Eclipse? Only £1600 and they reckon its a steal....got all the old patches on that Vai used to use.....might be worth a look!!!!!
We've got an Eclipse in the studio at work although I've never tried it. Rack gear lost its appeal with me after I injured my back a few years ago. :) The chorus you're hearing will be because of that split signal - all slightly different pitches, maybe a couple of cents away from each other. That's basically how chorus works too - a slightly off pitch signal mixed with the straight signal = chorus. It was originally conceived to give a '12 string guitar' effect. Maybe the Pitchfactor? Cheers.
The Modfactor sits after the fuzz and compressor but before all other dirt boxes and delays. I've never tried in the amp's effects loop but I'll have to one of these days as I believe it makes a BIG difference.
Awesome settings Dude. I have had the MF for about a month now and i am trying to nail the van halen phaser. can you help me on that? Thanks and keep up the great work.
You're basically wanting to emulate an MXR 'Script' Phase 90 which was a 4 stage phaser. The Eventide I'm sure can do this but I haven't spent any time trying to emulate a Phase 90, mainly because I don't own one. The accuracy of the effect will also depend highly on the type of guitar you're using, your right arm attack, and the sort of distortion or amp you're feeding it into. Many variables, but you could start with the 4 stage setting on the Eventide.
Great demo!!! I've been debating on purchasing this pedal or the electro harmonix poly chorus, but after listening to your demo I'm almost sold on the modfactor. I recently purchased the timefactor and that is a great pedal.
Yep, it's a great box and the expression pedal only expands its capabilities, especially with things like the rotary which you can control the speed of. The wah is pretty crap if you ask me. It's lightweight and digital and could use some improvements. Eventide are a year and a half between updates so I'd expect one soon.
Great tweaks...I am still learning mine. Have you created a Univibe sound successfully? If I can get a Univibe and a good wah this will kick a few pedals off my board. Thanks and great job on those tweaks!!
Very nice video indeed! I bought a modfactor 2 weeks ago but cannot get used to the Undulator. Can you share setting 9.2 with us please? Sounds amazing!
Thank you very much! I use a Barber Tone Press compressor and it is almost everytime on. However, with this effect, it sounds very crappy; the ticking sound at the end of the undulator effect is in that case much more emphasized.
So, a tip for everyone: Don't use the undulator in combination with a compressor!
Hi I like your demos, to me they are as good as the ones of Proguitarshop (and those are fantastic!). I'm planning to get the Modfactor but you said something negative about the p.supply and I can't help asking you what's the issue with that? thank you
The power supply is a little unwieldy, that's all. It's big and the connection to the Modfactor is a little precarious - I've bumped it out with a small nudge on several occassions. That's unacceptable in a professional situation; fine in the bedroom but fraught with danger on stage.
Oh I see, so the Modfactor cannot be supplied with the Voodoo Lab pedal power or similar? My pedalboard has little space for big p.supplies and that could be a problem then... Anyway, thanks for your reply. Keep rockin'!
Excellent, thank you. Your demo is better because it shows someone playing in a "real" sense. A lot of those other demos are just sweeps and there is a sterile character to them... I don't know exactly, but yours was the most helpful. Thanks.
Excellent demo, best real demo I've seen of this unit. I just received mine and was wondering what you used for your preset settings for the Q-Wah? Sounds cool. Nice Floyd sounds too. I can't wait to have some time to get my feet wet with this pedal. Also heard setting an expression pedal up with this pedal is otherworldly. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment, but better than PGS and those guys? Whoa! Here's the setting you wanted and the story..
For ages I've been trying to nail the Zappa sound he pulled on 'Ships Ahoy.' I think it was done with an old Oberheim CVF or something: Q-Wah; Intensity - 55; Type - Wah wah; Depth - 70; Speed - 7.59Hz; Shape - SMP/Hold; Xnob - 0; Dmod - 63; SMod - 0; Mod Rate - 0.12; Mod Source - Sine.
It works great with a Muff before it or any other drive/fuzz after it. Enjoy!
Still trying to get used to this pedal, but that's a good thing. I was using the Q wah settings before I read your reply (thanks) and I found that my signal is lower when the Q wah is engaged. I have my Modfactor after my drives, fuzzes etc, right before my delay. Trying to get that Korg A3 auto wah sound like The Edge... any suggestions since you seem to have a really good grasp of this pedal? Thanks again!
Ok, thanks. The track in mind is The Fly-the intro and even Mysterious Ways-main riff heard throughout. Thanks again, greatly appreciated! PS I came up with a ridiculous setting for the Shimmer effect under chorus... I hope to post some vids tomorrow if i can...

Your settings are fantastic, I would love if you would post some more of them. In particular I really love 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1

Hi I like your demos, to me they are as good as the ones of Proguitarshop (and those are fantastic!). I'm planning to get the Modfactor but you said something negative about the p.supply and I can't help asking you what's the issue with that? thank you
Youtubax 3 years ago

Leave it with me for a day or so and I'll come up with something. What's the name of that track again?
Burgerman666 3 years ago
Ok, thanks. The track in mind is The Fly-the intro and even Mysterious Ways-main riff heard throughout. Thanks again, greatly appreciated! PS I came up with a ridiculous setting for the Shimmer effect under chorus... I hope to post some vids tomorrow if i can...
