  • I THINK ZATOICHI IS A PRETTY COOL GUY

EH KILLS SAMURAIS AND DOESN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING

  • 1:00 never ask direction from lonely blind stranger in Japan

  • coming from a kid who likes modern movies, i prefer this to the newest zatoichi, rare i'd say something like that.

  • You just got Zatoichi'd.

  • Every gang that tries to kill Ichi is basically condemning everyone in it to genocide. Even worse, they know what he's capable of, and yet they try to get rid of him. This applies even more so to those who try to kill him and don't even know him.

I mean, how can you have not heard of a blind masseur who's mercilessly cut down more than a couple hundred people (if you take the body count from all of the movies before the 2003 remake)?

  • ( Takeshi Kitano's one is just a cheap fake. )

    I am 10000000000000 %%%%%% agree with you.

  • there are only 2! zatoichi, Shintaro, and the new femal Ichi. imho, the blonde one not so much...

no really just kidding .. i love this movie series. especially 70's series.

  • 3:07 i didnt know michael jackson was in this movie XD

    no really just kidding

  • The first scene was the coolest. Blowing out the lantern to turn things around :D

  • 1 vs 100

  • Zatoichi is 100 times better than today's movies both American and Japanese.

  • @loveyoufolks 13 Assassins was a good film, and reminiscent of the older Japanese samurai films.

  • i wouldnt say kintaros is a fake its entertainment at the least but maybe thats me and i have to see all of these

  • Epic!

  • I love the REAL Zatoichi :)

  • One of they few movies where the fat guy kills everyone :D

  • 3:00

one of the best examples of black humor i have ever seen!

  • The gang head simply watches, thinking, 'This just can't be happening...'

  • o my goodness, its mitsurigi's father, watch out!!!

  • this is so fucking great im so thankful you made this awesome video!

  • LOL GregoMar comes to THIS video (which i assume only fans of Japan, or the Samurai would watch in the first place) and tries to tell everyone that the Polish Saber is FAR better then the Katana (which is forged with TOTAL PASSION) and that a people who lived and DIED by that sword, are inferior to the pollock warrior. sorry but tons of people are amazed by the samurai way for a reason. because they we're AMAZING. the polish are hilarious however :D

  • Comment removed

  • Nothing is better than Polish Hussar sabre. Look on this samples below, any other white weapon is not so quick as sabre and fore sure any sword even Japanese katana. See yourself how quick polish hussar sabre is. Any Japanese fencer wouldn’t have a chance with master of polish hussar sabre.

  • @GregorMar Polish patriotism FTW ... not ... srsly dude ...

  • Iaido at its best.

  • Death by katana - you won't even feel it until your head has been separated from the body.

  • 勝新座頭市を二三本見ただけで分かった気になってたけど全然だということがよく分かった

  • Takeshi Kitano's film remake was not a cheap fake, it was good.

  • All Za-tou-ichi films are made for japan,,so there is no explanation of story in the film

    which is pity for foreigners.

Za-tou means blind masseur and ichi is his personal name.

He has no family name because he is not registered leagaly ,which means he is out rage from society in that age .

  • So all Zatou-ichi films are pessimistic destiny that he has to fight,,means kill people although he does not want to!!!

He is go on traveling to search bliss and freedom ,,

    But his last film,

He has settle down with a woman he loved.and made decision that he will never pull out hidden sword any more.

and began to live peacefully in the village,,

But ,,His beloved wife had murdered,,,,just like lleasal weapon (mel gibson film)

So he took up his hidden sword again,,

  • once he was requested by the yakuza boss.

So he become bodyguard of yakuza boss and often he was requested when the yakuza families fight against other families.

Usually,Unemployed corrupted Samurai used to become guard man .

So He sometimes come across the situation that he had to fight against guard man who used to felt intimacy with Za-tou-ichi and would become really good friend each other ,,but unfortunately ,,but they had to fight for their families, just for duty.

    So its sad drama,,

  • @1981shantam Samurai aren't corrupt they become BodyGuards for money when their master dies and they become Ronin.

  • and he can not ignore some body who are in need of his help, and very dreadful against bad guys.

These Character is what japanese loves the most.

Fight against strong ones and help for weak ones.

And it was habit for vagabond Yakuza that time, that they drop in Yakuza's family for accommodate and meals for the a night.

and If you got taken care by the yakuza family, you will have to give back as duty.

That was strict role for yakuza 'still today)

so he can not refuse against them once he was ,,

  • Then,,Being vagabond means he was dropout from society that age.

And He has become yakuza (means one who has no value as human being) as he likes gamble and play whenever he come to new place.

and Gambling was holding Yakuza families that time (still today illegality)

But he often caught in trouble with Yakuza who does foul play and he got strong sense of justice.

The biggest reason why so many Japanese loved his movies was that his character which He is so humble and gentle for every body, but

  • Well,,Reading many foreigners's comments about Za-tou-ichi film, I feel so sorry and pity because most of the comments are course by ignorance about Japanese histories of Blind man,and his work as masseur, and Yakuza of that age in Japan.

Let me explain a little about him,,,,,

    First of all

    He is not Samurai.

He was born as blind and no parents (wether renounced by his parents or The parents has past away)

Only possible way to survive as blind that age was to become masseur.

    and He is vagabond.

  • los mata a todos como si fueran vergas xD

  • Ya know a guy is serious when he's gets into a fight, and at it's conclusion there's a goddam NOSE sliding down the wall.

  • Holy fuck, he really fucked those guys up! :o

Note to self, never try to fuck over a blind guy

  • I did like Beat Takeshi's Zatoichi blond hair and all.

  • zatoichi has eyes in the back of his head!

  • So why he uses a lantern at the beginning?

  • @hodor You can understand the reason if you watch the whole of this movie. ; )

  • @hodor

One of his enemies (pretending to be friendly) gave Zatoichi a lantern as a "kind gesture" even though Zatoichi didn't really need it. The bad guy then told his henchmen to follow the lantern to track Zatoichi down and then kill him in the forest. However, things didn't go according to plan...

  • @hodor because it is dark outside.

  • @hodor so those gangsters could find him !SPOILER!

  • cossack !!!

  • 04:54 lol that was so clumsy

  • Unlike a lot of martial arts films, Zatoichi does NOT prolong his fight for audience' amusement. He's pretty much merciless and enemies in most cases die in one strike. That is what real martial arts and weapon fight is like. In battle, you won't see pretty flashy moves, you will usually see just ONE, and it kills.

  • @Cyberium It's not like it's a technique the movie developed. Zatoichi is just realistically portraying what Samurai battles were really like, one hit kills. There are many other Japanese movies that portray Samurai battles correctly as well.

  • @Sukuraidogai I'm well aware that Zatoichi wasn't the first or the only movie that portraits realistic sword fights. All I said in my comment was that many many films FAILED to do so.

  • @Cyberium Do the martial arts community a favor and stop preaching thisl line that currently plagues it

in theory, the "one strike/one shot" or at least "minimalist fighting" sounds wonderful but in practicallity NEVER happens, besides its flashy in its own right.

Rip the throat out, cave in the sternum, and even technically the first punch knockout are all things that never get applied as much as the set up. Real combat has evolved beyond this, the setup is whats important.

  • wow...this samurai is talented.

  • samurais are the gayest..

  • @goldenglove25 Since ur interested in gay Samurai...Here's a film you should enjoy!!

    /watch?v=cKjLErF6Ars

Anyway Zatoichi isn't a Samurai, he's a Yakuza who kills cartloads of samuraii & get's plenty of pussy!!

  • This is the best Zatoichi by far! Don't mind Takeshi Kitano's but the stories and the actors in the original films are the best. Shintaro Katsu is Zatoichi as far as i'm concerned. I'm in the process of watching all 26 movies at the moment got to 12 then had to watch the final one just to see Shintaro 20 years on, still kicks ass and the body count was significantly greater. 10 people need to go fuckin' commit harikiri! Ouss!!!

  • 1.39 GUAAAAAA!!! jjajajajaja, se asustan todos xD

  • I watched this clip and went straight to amazon to order the movie.

  • Shintaro for lyfe nilla!

  • i feel like the guy who made naruto was probably completly gay for this movie, considering narutos really gay

  • @fernandoredz You sound like one of those retarded naruto fanboys to compare a masterpiece like zatoichi to that shit anime you jack to.

zatoichi is a blind swordsman, Naruto is hardly about ninjas because real ninjas don't dress like homosexuals on broadway.

No matter how hard you try to walk on water with *chakra* it wont be physically possible.

What does zataoichi even have to do with naruto?

please go educate yourself before you spew your ignorance to others.

  • @unionofonion yo mad tough takin youtube comments to heart

  • @unionofonion i bet ur one of those fags that thinks hes hot shit cuz he tries show up kids who are definitly younger than him on his favorite youtube vids. not to mention the fact that i was mad high when i saw this so it kinds blew my fuckin mind and the only thing i could compare it to was something completely opposite. so why dont u back up, smoke some weed and stop being such a fuckin bug out

  • @fernandoredz You are incapable of intelligence.

Once again, please go educate yourself before you spew your ignorance to others.

  • @unionofonion ur like a fucken broken record, fuck u fagget

  • 10 people that are Kitano fans...

  • wow, all of these fight scenes take place in the same movie. Methinks that I have to see this now

  • I'm actually only familiar with the one that has Tadanobu Asano in it, so when I came across this version, I was psyched! :D

    Thanks for sharing this.

  • i love the way the old guy used the had as a blood shield!

  • i watch zatoichi before.... i swear it was a tall and skinny guy.....and the movie was old too

  • Was that a nose sliding down the wall?!!

  • Bud Spencer's got a sword! RUN, SCURRY - FLEE, FLEE!!!!

  • The japanese version of Dare Devil

  • Can't they just use bow?

  • @exploreryen

Kitanas are ALWAYS a must! :p LOL

  • Shintaro Katsu is like Coca-Cola, theres nothing like the real thing!

  • 1:42 wutwut

  • why no one use bow and arrows??

  • @GASoulEaterKiN

It probably wouldn't work. As he is able to see torugh any movement he would also see trough the enemy's aim and trough the arrows' way, so he would avoid them easily. And it would be even easier as and arrow unidirectional weapon, so once he knew he way he would just need to step out of it, but swords are multidirectional weapons. So the point is, it would be easier for him to avoid arrows than swords.

  • A real katana?, a stuntman got killed?

    A former yakuza member/actor? DAMN!!

I knew they had it in em! They go hard as

    A mothafucka! REAL SHIT

  • did i just hear kenpachi speak at 0:11??????

  • @drzonlyjonas323 Nooo... Zaraki's voice is pure strenghth and brutality... This is voice of some old fart :P

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • 最初から最後まで息をのんで一気に見てしまった

    ちょっとこれを超える殺陣は出てこないだろうな

  • Takeshi Kitano was a worthy successor, for you to insult him makes you a joke. You suck.

  • Even chuck norris couldn't fuck with zatochi.

  • Wow.

  • @ 8:23 ''Motherf@cking baby pissed on me!''

  • Ahh the creativity of the 60's

  • Great!!! always loved this great blind swordsman of all times!

  • The man who can perform only Shintaro Katsu is like Kiyoshi Atsumi who performed hard YO in a leader city.

  • The man who can perform only Shintaro Katsu is like Kiyoshi Atsumi who performed hard YO in a leader city.

  • Leader city Shintaro Katsu who made a mess on Shingo Katori and Yuu for unexpected man would also cry with kingdom come now such Japanese famous story.

  • The man in royal blue -- wow, the amazing, minute, subtle facial expressions he's showing in reaction to all this -- he totally puts english - style acting to shame! WOW!

  • i wan to watch this movie.,,...i really honor samurai. may i knw which movi is this

  • @SuperHavok this is part of the later sieries i forget which ones. but the first 18 movies are on hulu. com just search zatoichi., watch them in order too

  • Unlike Wild West duels with guns, there is no coffin man running into middle to collect dead men's boots or shoes.Cos they wear "sandals" !

  • @LimboGeezer Wow you' re really smart... DUMBASS.

  • EPIC!!!

I don't know why, but every time I watch this, I think of the X-Man Wolverine lol!

  • as far as Japanese sword play scenes, this movie has some of the best I've seen. Others will disagree, but the choreography was really well put together. I love the scene where he saves the girl and the candle flame is the edge of his sword, makes the lighting effect really cool. Reminds me of the days of reading Usagi Yojimbo

  • i love how messy he is as a fighter but couldn't be more accurate.

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • Zatoichi is consider the Edo Period's saviour...

  • zatoichi, you give meaning to life

  • Anyone else notice how the later Zatoichi movies where more gorier then there early counterparts?

I wonder if it was due to the large influx of gory samurai movies during the 70's.

  • The expression of the head villain is priceless. He's just standing there thinking, 'What the hell..."

  • Was I the only one thinking in 8:03 Zatochi's exact words in english would be. "I'm going to use this baby as a meat-shield, madam."

  • 3:07 was that a heart?

  • @koolplaya96 Emmmmmm.....I think it's somebody's nose.....!

  • 1:17 looks like the fight in the first opening of rurouni kenshin!

  • Why is everyone trying to kill him?

  • if so happen's that Zatoichi is still alive,i'll be in the next PLANET,lol xd

  • @orangberdosa Kitano's acting as Zatoichi sucks. he barely talks in his movie. The real Zatoichi was jolly and also had a colorful personality.

  • @Yojimbo13david He also had a baby with him if I remembered correctly.

  • I also thought he looked sad from time to time

  • there was a tv series of zatoichi with this actor?

  • @fefe74e there was no tv series, but there are lots of Zatoichi movies with this actor. please try. : )

  • Yeah there was a TV series. Season one is available in US.

  • some stuntman was killed on this movie cuz of a real sword

  • @ 3:30 Roland D50 synthesizer rules!!!

  • either the guy is an expert swordsman apart from actor...or that sword he spins around is made of rubber.

i tend to think the second. even if it was wooden, the way he spins it some stuntman surely would have lost an eye or some teeth.

  • Nope. It was a real sword. Had to be rebuilt after every movie.

One other thing... Katsushin really was that fast and that precise. He wasn't in very good health when he made this and still kicked that much ass. Shame this movie wasn't as good as the previous ones.

His son (the guy he kills when he throws the baby) accidentally killed a stuntman with a "hero" sword when they thought it was a stunt sword.

  • @tsarbomba1 from what I heard of....Katsushin was a yakuza in real life...may be that's where he learned his sword skill from....!

  • @tsarbomba1 really? that'd be cool if u wasnt lying

  • I'm not. Do some reading.

  • muy bueno

  • 勝新を越える市は勝新だけだ。

    so cool !!

  • @yetwistedbastards hell, yeah. inch by veiny inch.

  • where can I see em for free please let me know thanks

  • @LILUCKSMO80 Well, since all the people who deserved the money have past away, here ya go: just search "zatoichi complete boxset" on kickasstorrents com or thepiratebay org. It's 18GB, so just get one episode, watch it, seed it back, then get the next one and so on.

  • @yetwistedbastards Thank u so very much.

  • well, its a big difference between the two films, Zatoichi Kitano has the special effect for the katana and the blood, but in this original film they dont use some special effects... well u can decide it...

  • Katsu has more humanity and personality in his little finger than Kitano does in every single one of his pretentious and empty movies.

  • @textthing agreed!!!

  • The real and original Zatoichi is the best no doubt about it!

  • Man do not disrespect Kitano's work. You're the cheap fake!

  • @jonxmoke69

    Kitano, frankly, sucks.

  • Well this is a classic but I'll have to differ with you on Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi movie, the truth is it was action packed and the main character was well preformed, Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi FTW! ^_^

  • Yep,am totally on the same line,Kitano is the best perfomer ever of zatoichi,a fabulous acting and directing,am astounded by his performance!

  • @Glume001

    You couldn't be more deluded.

  • @textthing sry,what do u mean by this?

  • @Glume001

I mean that Kitano's portrayal missed the point of the character. In the 2003 film he comes across as little more than a brutal killer, who not only draws his sword first but even slaughters unarmed people, simply because they try to fix a game. Katsu Shintaro's character would never have behaved like that - he never drew unless someone attacked him first, and never used lethal force against unarmed opponents. Another point is that Kitano's portrayal is basically humourless.

  • @textthing ok i got the point, for me,kitano's portrayal of the blind was really fabulous, concerning slaughtering unarmed people, can u give me a scene where he did this?

  • @Glume001

There's the scene where Zatoichi hears that the dice sound different in the gambling den. He slices the dealer's arm off for that and then proceeds to kill the others. Granted, one of them is seen to have a sword during the scene, but Zatoichi was the aggressor. It completely changes the character.

  • i agree,he always draws his sword when he hears the enemy's sword slashing down on him...,im a fan of the old one...

  • やっぱり、スゲエ。
