Yes it was so much better back then, clean, excellent public transport, plenty of recreational facilities, plenty of free parking, plenty of work, excellent town centre, happier and less stressed population, lower crime, etc, etc. This is the price we pay for progress. By the way the full video is at ltmcollection. Great days, I miss them.
@maccagrabme i hate to bring facts into it but if you are 43 as your profile says then you wernt actually born. you know as much about Stevenage in 1965 as you do about Middle earth and hobbits!
@Quasime42 Ok, 10 yrs later isn't going to make a great deal of difference now is it? I know what I see and compared to today it looks a darn sight nicer back then, agree?
If you look at 1:54, you can see the bus does indeed have a larger rectangular mirror. I think it must have been fitted specially for filming purposes. I drove RT`s for many years, and never saw any with anything other than the round nearside ones.
A little curiosity on this video. When the driver looks back at the woman joing the bus he does so looking in a rectangular mirror but RT types like other double deck vehicles of the time had round mirrors on the near side and rectangular ones only on the offside. RF single deck vehicles had rectangular mirrors on both sides. Was this shot set up later or was this an odd RT with that type of mirror on the nearside?
yes what a complete shitty ghetto the whole place has degenerated into!!!

If it was Stevenage today that women would have been run over by that bus
and then hoodies would have no doubt looted her corpse

This isn't too helpful, but I've definitely seen a longer version on the internet - probably YouTube but maybe an official transport or films site.

A lovely film and nice crip accents, which makes a refreashing change to the grunts and gruffs you hear now.
My mum also had one of those baskets

Pure nostalgia !
Thanks so much for uploading this gem.
Wing mirrors aside, it was a tonic to see the town centre looking so great.

I live in the USA but grew up in Stevenage during the 1960's. This brought back so many memories. Thank you
