thanks for speaking in what seems like a logical and relatively unbiased fashion. I had an ibook (remember those....?) Will be getting one maybe in the next 6 months. Don't do any editing, or anythin like that. Just for a good reliable and slick machine or browsing,downloading music and watching media etc. plus i like the facetime thing. would you, in your opinion only go for macbook air or macbook pro. I bought a Macbook Pro last saturday (stupid i know) and it has yet to be shipped despite having a "1-3 business days" shipping notification. This hints to me that maybe Apple are in fact holding off orders on 2010 MBP's and focusing on new ones instead.

I had a chat to a Sales Rep and he told me that in the situation Apple release a new MBP within 14 days of you buying a new one, you can call and ask for an update. Apple will even foot the bill for shipping! So recent buyers dont despair! Go 

It is definitely sandy bridge because the in die GPU that comes with these new macbook s at least stated on that leaked box information is the intel hd 3000. Newer intel GMA revision.

Honestly i'm glad they are removing the white macbooks, pricing wise if you upgrade ram you are pretty much paying for a macbook pro, those things are better design wise, and sturdier.

Man I got my lovely 15" MBP in June just a few months after the last biggish refresh because I couldn't wait till tomorrow, and I don't regret my decision one bit. im a student doing my 2nd year of business marketing & management

we also do a lot of adverts etc. so im buying a mac in the near future.

However, i cannot choose between a top spec 13 inch air (upgraded processor and RAM) or a 15 inch MBP, obviously there is a lot unknown about the new MBP, but if anyone could suggest what would be the better option

Also worth adding i have a powerful custom built desktop, so this wouldnt be main computer

I probably will be getting the 13 inch macbook air. I sold my 13 inch pro and I was waiting to hopefully see ssd, but it looks like it may not be happening. So with the ssd and weight, it will be perfect for me with college. I love always having my computer with me at school, but the13 inch pro is just to heavy to always carry around. Even though the air has core 2 duo, it's still blazing fast.

The new MBP looks nice but, If they put sandybridge in it it won't be able to have a dedicated gpu. That's the reason sandybridge is so nice for vid/picture editing. It integrates a graphics chip ON to the CPU.

I dont see the White Macbook being scrapped and being replaced by the Macbook Air because the White Macbook is perfect for people who want a computer to do all their stuff on and it is significantly cheaper than the Macbook Pro 13" (perfect for most students) but the Macbook Air isn't really a desktop replacement even for basic users.

@krummakot re the hate on rumour websites - its like this every time a refresh is here. As there is a certain expectation (thanks to rumours), when these expectations are not transferred to reality - you get people moan... and these same people end up buying the machine! The only downside right now is the GPU of this leaked spec... will find it soon, not long to go now!

@theunits3 the GPU is the only downside? The fact (well, rumor) that a 4-5 months old mobile computer will generally (day-to-day tasks) feel more responsive than a newly released pro computer is not a downside? The same goes for the screen and the inability to leave out the SuperDrive.

I really think these specs look odd (also because of the weight) and I really think - and honestly hope - this is fake. Because if these are real, I won't be the only one who's disappointed!

@krummakot Indeed, It's actually worst if you are consider the GPU performance that is why I'm changing my mind. But I guess I'll hold on, and see what we get tomorrow. It's still quite early to make any judgements. However if you look at the CPU performance it's alot higher than the Dual core 2 processors. If you are use applications which use alot of your more of your CPU than GPU, then it's a product to be getting. It is 20-30% faster than the Dual core 2 which apple previously was using.

@aorm1 I soooo hope the 15/17"s are liquid metal... but if they aren't, i wont be that pissed. That said, better have backlit keys, sandybridge, decent GPU, flash storage (CTO/BTO), option of removing the optical drive and 'Thunderbolt'. Wow, thats a lot :D

I think the majority of people (including myself) just want SSD as standard and Lightpeak (or Thunderbolt). While I agree that the separate 16GB storage is OK, You are 100% right when you said it should be more (We have to remember Lion).
