  • EricaDeeAnne When I was a Junior in High School it was 1962. Best I can zero it.

  • What year did this song come out?

  • @ErikaDeeAnne He won a Grammy for it in 1959. I am a child of the 80s, and this song got played so often at our house when I was a kid that I had no idea it was already more than 20 years old. Good music is timeless. This song is a true classic.

  • for all who posts marty's songs i thank you. my favorite singer of all time and to me the greatest voice ever created by God especially his western ballads. you live on in your music marty!

  • Sometimes I watch stuff like this and I actually cry while yearning for days that are so long gone.

  • @jeddyhi

It is nice to know that I am not the only one who feels this way. If we could only turn back the hands of time. At least we can step back in time to wonderful music like Marty's El Paso.

  • Classic !

  • Not many make songs image producing music like this anymore

  • I just saw a short film named "The Road to Nashville", and this was the version that was in the movie. It was made in 1967. Great movie.

  • I grew up in El paso and this was a favorite and at that time made me proud of all the movies and music and very well known Sheriffs of the Old West.

  • Campy? No. Classy!

I'll always be grateful to my older step-brother Joey for "introducing" me to Marty Robbins (yeah... two b's) via his 8-track of "Greatest Hits" back in the mid-70's when I was just a snotty young teenager.

    (*GRIN*)

Thanks for posting this video! Great one!

    BILL

  • The accompanying singers are Don Winters and Bobby Lee Sykes. Old friends and frequent contributors on Marty Robbins' recordings.

  • Okay - there are better versions (sound) - but I love all his gunfighter ballads and his songs about love and death - so much memories for me - thanks!

  • one of my favourite marty songs, thanks for sharing

  • Just great, this clip comes from the movie "Road To Nashville",its the closing song.

  • one of my favorite true country songs of all time

  • This is truly classic. He's long been gone, but his music truly will always live on.

  • I think this is Marty's best version of this song.

  • god given talent, true gentleman, great video

  • my mother loved marty robbins and she passed away in november 2008, and all her favorites grew on me over the years,, and marty is one of my favorites also

  • @ammariepaul I know what you mean, growing up I hated Marty Robbins, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard, etc etc, all the stuff my mom listened to. Now they are high ranking on my ipod.

  • the greatest western singer ever and my all time favorite. saddle tramp is my fav song. thanks for all u post

  • I think that the Rolling Stones cover of "El Paso" is miserable.

  • I think that Rolling Stones cover is miserable.

Boy, you can saay that again !

I think the Rolling Stones cover is miserable.

  • Nevermind, I know!

  • What movie is this from?

  • Absolutely fantastic! It doesn,t get any better than this. Can you tell me from what show this clip was taken? Great post man, more more more.........

  • @clintbradley

yes, I remember this video clip; Benny rode a horse in accordance with the lyrics.. fantastic show, but sadly misunderstood as malicious parody and blocked. However, this is the error, this Benny comedy clip doesn't cover. I think that Rolling Stones cover is miserable.

  • @ednamax33 Are you sure it was benny hill? steve martin did one with a chimp once on a specail.

  • this was my dads favorite song just love it makes me think of him miss u lots pops xx

  • My uncle would sing this song to me when I was very little (6ish)....I fell in love with the story and would beg for him to sing it over and over.....even as I got older (im 23) i still remembered how much i loved the story but could never find the song....now that I have I am impressed how much justice my uncle did for the song and for Marty's voice.......

  • I love the campfire setting. I was waiting for the "Marlboro" man to come riding through on his horse! Great song! :)

  • No multi tracking here, just three beautifully blended voices telling one of the most memorable story's in the form of song. Thanks Marty Robbins and thanks republicanboyatheart.

  • I love Marty, one of my favorite song! =)

  • Awesome song! My grandpa went out west after WW2 playing in western bands back when everything followed the rodeos. He told alot of stories about Marty and some of the other folks that made it from those days. Marty was actaully quite fond of my grandmother, but she came back east with my grandpa. Of course this was years before he got famous, but pretty cool none the less!

  • This brings back alot of memories Marty is the best, I remember my Dad playing this song when I was young El Paso is the frist song I knew all the lyrics by heart. Marty maybe gone but he will never be forgoting and every time I hear one of his songs I think of my pop who pass away a few years ago.

  • Thank you much for the memories from a bygone era.

  • AAHHHHHHHH THE GOOD STUFF <3

  • back when TV had soul, "honesty" and you didn't have to worry about what the kids saw... Even without the staging and props, you know exactly what this song is about... just plain good...

  • One of my favorite songs ever. Marty Robbins was such a great singer.

  • This is a great version - sounds like the original recording.

  • @Shadepuppy That's because it is.

  • This is aclassic but my favorite is BIG IRON

  • What can you say.......... FLAWLESS. A true classic. This song belongs to Marty Robbins for eternity. What a God-given voice that man had.

  • Gotta check out Road To Nashville. The movie this is from. So many classic country legends, your head will spin.

  • El Paso is the most beautiful country song. Who's the 2 back-up singers. I've seen them in alot of clips.

  • @CadillacL

The Back singers were Tompall & the Glaser Brothers

  • An all time classic in anyone's or any genre's language

  • I've always wondered . . . if they guy he shot was a bad guy, no one would care, but a horse thief, now that's a crime punishable by death. I wonder if he was shot for being a horse thief and not for the murder of the man.

  • @Woody615

He killed the other guy because he was jealous over Faleena. E lpaso city is the 2nd half of el paso

  • something is dreadfully wrong...not. One of the most beautiful cowboy songs ever. I almost will push Rawhide aside for this tonight. Thank you for the post.

  • The great Grady Martin on spanish guitar in the background.

  • @mdhbigdog The guitar work is fabulous. I think it's under-appreciated. Thanks for the name of the guitar artist. Is he also the artist on the recording?

  • Love it! Thanks for uploading

  • In the early 1970s The Grateful Dead began doing versions of this song, along with many other classic country tunes. This caused masses of young hippy freaks (like me at the time) to become country fans. Most of us would never have heard of Robbins if not for the Dead, but that band increased his fan-base exponentially amongst people Robbins would never have expected. For one example, check out the Youtube "Grateful Dead - El Paso - 6-26-94" video.

  • What a great voice

  • rosa.s backdoor lol

  • This is coool!

    Mike

  • awesome ballatering

  • Classic Country music at its best! Marty is my favorite.

  • I love all the many versions of this song that Marty sings. Notice how Bobby picks up on Marty's mannerisms and head movements in this one? They've done it together so many times, it's not surprising, but haven't noticed it in any of others.

  • LMAO!!!

He has to make it to Rosa's BACKDOOR!!!!

    Hahahahahah! Awesome!!!!

  • OMG, it never occurred to me! rofl!

  • El Primo

  • love the guitar work..simple melody with great backing and the mighty voice of Marty

  • Thank you for this

One of my father's favorite songs.

Besides which it has the verse "Just for a moment...run" which most versions leave out.

  • My favorite singing cowboy.

  • Marty was one of the first western baladeres to make it pop music.

  • How can this only have 4 thousand some hits? Seems impossible. It should have 400 thousand or 4 million....Marty Rules.

  • simple, argyleed, Marty's music is only gotten by a select few. I agree that there should be many more views, but those who have viewed are the true at heart!!!

  • Class!
