  • Yeah good advice. thanks for posting the video.

  • I've been so worried that I can't lose the weight since I messed up my first time around. I'll try to be more positive and definitely monitor my portions. I think i'm just being too lax. I'm 22 this can't be my last chance. I have to stop telling myself that i'm a failure. The weight stays on because I convince myself that i'm not good enough to succeed at anything. But people like you help inspire me to not give up or tell myself that i'm a loser. I can win, I hope =p

  • On a side note: Does using atkins for 2 or 3 months yield enough of an impact on your insulin resistance so as to improve your insulin response to carbs enough that it makes a higher carb diet less likely to make you gain weight? To sum it up: Can I use Atkins as a metabolic modulator to fix an insulin imbalance, and then revert to a diet closer to 33/33/33 ?

  • @Aethren It will put the body moving in the right direction. Will it completely fix a broken metabolism? Only time will tell. I would however hesitate using Atkins as a quick fix and then going back to high glycemic index diet. I think you are missing the point of a maintenance phase or what the Caloric intake at Maitnenance might be for some. It very well might be 50/30/20 or even 40/30/30 for some people.

  • I had fallen off the diet and to kick start it I do the fat fast for a couple days and am now doing the induction and its been almost two weeks and Ive lost 11 lbs its pretty amazing

  • This is my second time around and WHEN not IF, BUT WHEN I loose about 300 lbs , I will be able to concur with you on this.

  • I think by stating that you only get 'one shot' at this is so negative and is probably the reason that people don't loose, thinkling

" well because of the golden shot, i'll never loose the weight" so you dont !. I have fallen back into eating unhealthy carbs a couple of times but when i get back to healthy eating I alway lose well.

The 'Golden Shot theory' needs to be taken out of the low carb equation and more people might be healthier.

  • I absolutely agree. It is way to self-sabotage or create self-doubt where none needs to exist. Why not hit the second, third, 50th time with the same mindset of the first time? Thanks again for dead on comment.

  • thank you for this video and for your message regarding my diet. Im excited about trying this again and I will definitely keep you posted on my progress!

  • You are very welcome. Thanks for watching and anxious to see your progress.

  • i want your bunny.

  • you are so right on the golden shot it IS a myth, I messed up during the holidays, gained about 6 lbs,and I went back to induction and I've lost 14 lbs since January 5...and today is Janusry 14 so...it is a myth.

  • Congrats on your success and proving once again that a slip up doesn't mean the end. Good job!

  • Congrats On the marathons!!!!!

Thank you so much, you truly are an inspiration!!

  • Hey I heard about your diabetes race too. It'll be just a matter of time after that elliptical training that you'll be running away from that complaining neighbor 10ks and more. :-)

  • first, congrats on the marathons!! second thanks for this video, I've heard of the golden shot and it made me a little down, I thought I had blown all of my efforts because I messed up on my diet, this encourages me so much, I started my low carb again today, thanks again you really do inspire us all!!

  • Congrats on starting again and returning to a healthy way of living. I am glad you were helped by the video. You can certainly do this and be as and even more successful as last time!

  • atkins works and all - but in the long run... it does do damage. coz lack a carbs isnt healthy is it,

  • Yeah, it is completely healthy. I haven't had a bad blood workup, urinalysis, or annual physical since starting Atkins 4 years ago. I know Atkineers who have been on the diet since the 70s, and they are still healthy and active. I haven't suffered any of the negative side effects, and my doc couldn't be happier with my diet and results.

  • Here is how it's unhealthy: No other diets will work for you if you regain the weight. I have tried strict atkins, raw diet, very low calorie diet, weight watchers, name some more and I've tried it.

I haven't eaten sugar or grains for over 4 years now and I do not eat any foods with chemicals added to them. I work out 15 hours a week doing cardio, pilates, and weight training. When you regain weight from Atkins, you have a VERY hard time ever losing weight again.

  • How anecdotal... Show one study that proves this theory of yours, please. Post your menus and exercise on a site thedailyplate or Fitday for a month, and we can probably find what is going wrong with your weight loss. The first idea that comes to my head is "are you eating enough Calories?" You are exercising 15 hours and need the fuel for that.

I can point to countless examples of past Atkins followers who have lost the weight again - take none other than Jimmy Moore.

  • amen. I was on Atkins for about a year about 3-4 years ago and lost 60lbs. I have been in induction for about 5 days and have lost 4lbs. It works, I work out 3-4days a week too. was on low fat diet and developed hypertension and was starving and binging. On atkins a feel great and 3ys ago my hypertension was under control. my metabolism is very very slow and insulin problems, but atkins has been the ONLY diet to consistantly and reasonably work for me.

  • Thank you for affirming the truth. Congrats on being down 4 pounds already. I have said before if it wasn't for the weight loss, the health benefits of the low carb lifestyle would be reason enough to do it. How's the Induction flu this time around?

  • In the beginning I didnt have inductionFlu and don't have it now. My friend went on Atkins and stopped b/c of it, but I had no clue that so many people experienced what she did. I thougt is was just her! I have a pastry addiction, but I usually don't drink regular soda's and drinks, eat a lot of fried foods, or starches so maybe those that do have such problems. Even being off atkins I didnt eat rice, potatoes, pasta, or candy that often.

  • Atkins works especially after induction i lost like 50 lbs its hard at first but worth it.

  • I read that article at low carb luxury as well months ago. I will admit that at first I was a little discouraged since I do have a history with low carb. Of course that didn't stop me from proceeding with my current process of following the lifestyle. Something that I like to point out is.. lowcarbers call their WoE a lifestyle.. lowfat advocates call their WoE a diet. Interesting eh? Thanks for another great video Kent, keep em coming. They help motivate me and countless others!

  • Thanks for the words of affirmation. Keep going down the right path. I always find it funny how they constantly look for items they can't have like fat free cheese, ice cream, etc. It's like the low fat ppl aren't happy with what they are doing and are looking forward to the moment they are off of it.

  • Hello, I just wanted to thank you for your video's they helped me a lot, I been on this Atkins diet since September 5th and now lost 32lbs plus I walk 4 mile 3 times a week, I still have a ways to go, but I want this with all my hart, Soo THANK YOU

  • You are very welcome and big congrats on your weightloss! If I can help, just let me know. Good job, and keep up the great work!

  • Hey I did Atkins and lost 15 lbs then went off diet and gained a ton of weight and then went back on 6 YEARS later and it worked at the same speed and I kept it up, ... hope people dont read that article and get discouraged!! ps... think your bunny should lay off the carbs! LOLOL =)

  • Yeah, he needs to go on an exercise program too. I let him run the stairs, but elsewhere he has an affinity to cords, which must be like bunny crack.

Thanks for validating the myth of the golden shot and for people not to be discouraged.

  • High carbohydrate can lead to increased hyperinsulinemia. If he regained a lot of weight he probably has increased hyperinsulinemia and therefore he will be more resistant to weight loss.

  • That was the second point I was trying to make. Hyperinsulinemia could make the weight loss slower as the body doesn't want to be fooled again and starts releases too much insulin in relation to the food intake, but that doesn't only affect second-timers. There are more metabolically resistant going through the first time as well. Your CCLL may be different the second time, so learning where your body is in OWL is just as important the second time.

  • Kent.... those bunnies, look low-carb yum-o, Rachele =)

  • Repeat after me... "Bunnies are friends, not food."

  • Those bunnie's are Super Cute:) I think they need their on Vlog:) LOL!

    Great Video Kent!!!

  • Kent = Extremely Cool Uncle, LOL =) Congrats on the marathons...

  • congrats on running your marathons

  • Thanks - I just love proving that the myth that one needs carbs to run wrong.

  • induction I miss potatoes so the mashed beans will that really interfere I keep starting over and over and over the 1st time I did it lost 4opounds long time ago

  • Mashed beans - I am not familiar with that recipe. Green beans are allowed in one cup, but that is about it for beans until the latter rungs of OWL.

The mashed cauliflower recipe that I posted to Youtube (fauxtatoes) is absolutely Induction legal. You might need to do a bit more planning for Induction in getting meal plans laid out. Figure out what has been your downfall in past attempts -- missing potatoes too much, start finding some good sides recipes to replace it.
