Man, I still like this song. It was my theme songs of a sort about the time I was getting out of high school. Would play it a bit louder (which never would have too loud, but where he could hear it) when my dad was around. Don't think he ever caught it was my message to him. My 3 older siblings left home right after they got out of high school, my older brother into the Navy in '68 less than a week after he graduated, as I recall. Still like it, though the personal meaning has changed/lessened.
@whiskeyandashes Halleluyah! People have always assumed that this song is a protest song against the Vietnam War and only attacks people on the Right, but I'm not so sure. He might also be referring to those on the extreme Left at the time as well (ex. Abbie Hoffman, Timothy Leary, etc.). Sounds like you might agree with me. In any case I'm with you that listening to this song makes me think of BOTH Democratic schmucks (John Edwards) and Republican ones (Newt Gingrich).
@danning1 - I do agree with you. If one really sits back and listens, he's mainly seeking/promoting common sense and reasonably open minds rather than a "One True Philosophy", regardless of its leanings. At least, that's what I hear when I listen...
Ditto's to these comments plus I say for the most part, music after the very early 70's turned to crap. Ever notice that "rap" is only one letter away from crap?
I don't care what music you like or what you think about the music I like. I like this and "crappy pop" shit, as well as all kinds of music. Good to know people are such genre purists, but I find it boring as fuck to be like that.

80% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 20% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy and paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of Hardstyle die!
Sometimes I feel that way about what our US Govt. is doing. They don't know how to run things, why should they be allowed to tell us how to run our lives?
@Seattlecarnut Thats what the song is saying! Our government is too busy trying to please other countries they forgot to try to help the only one that matters....US!!!!

One of my favourite songs to come out of the 70s. And a song with a relevant message as well. I like that.

"He can't even run his own life, I'll be damned if he'll run mine..."
I feel that way about nearly every politician - Republican or Democrat - when I hear that line...
