What an incredible piece and interpretation. I grew up with the Martin Jones version, which is far more subdued and ethereal, but I think I may love this one equally. There is much merit to this sort of bold emphasis of the ostinato - a figure so unique and engaging in and of itself. I will be purchasing this CD!
Thanks for posting this video. Charmes is one of Mompou's compositions I prefer, along with Musica callada and Fêtes lointaines. Jordi Maso's recording for Naxos is great, especially in this piece. Do you know Mompou's own interpretation of it? His reading is really different I think.
Some times keeping it short is the best way to go.
