We have a shih tzu named Gretchen. She is the best dog we have ever had. She loves everyone. I take her to nursing homes where she is loved by all the residence there. They look forward to her visits. If i go in without her - they ask where she is. After owning a shih tzu - I would recommend them to anyone who wants un-conditional love and affection from a furry friend.
She's adorable with the shorter hair. Is she an affectionate dog? Does she like people? I think shih tzus are adorable but I only want one if it will cuddle or let me pick it up and play with it.
@lacey41908 That's great! I think my opinion has been affected by the fact that my friend's dog is a shih tzu and, pardon my french, that dog a total asshole! I think it's because my friend didn't train him properly and I think the dog has a bit of alpha "small dog syndrome." Lacey seems much friendlier and more playful. I can't wait to get a shih tzu of my own one day!!!

@Katilea69 Lacey gets a full groom (haircut and bath) about every 8 weeks with baths in between. All groomers charge different prices, so you will want to check with one in your area :)

I prefer the cute teddybear look to the 'long-hair show dog' look on these dogs too. Though I like Lacey's tail in this clip! .. I would have it cut a little shorter around her face so mine didnt need hair bobbles/hairclips but that's cos my dexterity isnt great and it be too fiddly everyday!
I can't maintain my shih tzu's hair like how you can maintain yours. He doesn't like to stay indoors and loves to play outdoors with our poodle. I like Lacey's haircut and I might do the same thing for my shih tzu as well. She looks soooo adorable btw :)

Wow, you have two? Lacey is quite a handful at times, I could not imagine having two of her, LOL! I have been able to keep Lacey's head, legs and tail long, but her body is shorter. It is easier to take care of. I'm sorry to hear that you lost your girl, I know how hard that is. Our Shih Tzu Nikki was 18!
please everyone get your pup started at the groomer when much younger, around 3 months or so, it will make it much easier on your pet and the groomer!
Thank you! This haircut really does not have a name. I told the groomer to try to keep it as long as possible, but she had too many knots at the time. It has grown in since then and looks very cute :)

Hey there! Lacey was a little over a year old when she got her first cut. She still has her top knot, I hope to keep it. I just put her long hair up by using a rubber band. You have to be careful not to damage the hair or else you will always have small pieces falling into their eyes. It can be very frustrating until that hair grows in. Good Luck!
my shih tzu dottie jean had the same ball in a different color...she would only play with that and her stuffed monkey even though she has a ton of toys. She likes tennis balls as well, and kicks them with her paw and chases after them.
I use to get my dog done similar to this. I live overseas but will be back in the states in a month and always had my guy done with a puppy cut . It was sooo cute! I had a hard time keeping the hair long . I loved the puppy cut once it got a little longer b/c it made Cosmo look like a liltte bear. hehe
I love the puppy cut too! I really liked Lacey's hair long, but it was just getting too hard to handle. I was a bit in shock when she first got it cut, but now I am used to it. It has grown a lot already and she looks really cute =D
looks just like my shitzu, muffin(1yr-black and white). I do a double take just to make sure it's the same dog when she comes back from the groomers. Their hair grows so fast it's really hard to stay on top of it, I get muffin done once a month. She's adorable just like my baby.
Muffin sounds so cute! I had a black and white Shih Tzu that was 18 years old. You are right, their hair does grow very fast. I will get Lacey trimmed about every 8 weeks now. I love it long, but too long is such a hassle to keep up with the mats =D

Oh, I'm glad that you like Lacey's new do! You are so right, it is such a breeze to brush her now. Takes about a minute. It used to take me a good 20 minutes at least 2 times a day! Her boyfriend in the neighborhood (Wheaten Terrier) would grab her by the long hair when they played and have a grand time. LOL! Now we will have more time for fun and walks =D
Sure! :) As soon as I can get my stupid camra to work! Ha ha! I will try to get some videos in by 3 weeks I just have to make it sure with my Dad, we are also going in an Agility trail on May 1-2 I will for sure then make a video.
That basket sure is great, isn't it? As you can see, it is also overflowing with toys. Can't help but keep buying more!! There are tons upstairs also. =D
