The reason our government doesn't care about Darfur or any of the horrible crimes committed against women and children is plain and simple - there is nothing for us to gain. If this was about big oil and profits for the US, we would have stopped the mutalation of young women a long time ago.
I love how they all interject statements of how they have "just been" to Darfur, or have been to Iraq seven times. Like that's some kind of credential?
I can't believe the stupidity of that high school kid asking for the draft to come back. Fuck you! If it happens, you are one of the first people who will be denounced for the collaborationist scum you are as the protesters converge on Washington.
I did listen to the question; he expressed that he liked the german draft and asked them what they would do to bring the draft back here; he was a plant putting a positive spin on the fucking draft. I live in the US and am of the age where I would be drafted if people like this won; and I refuse to let that happen, I refuse to have my generation sacrificed like that, and especially to sit by while some traitors try to sacrifice us.
I sympathize with your position. The war is stupid and never should have started. But I really think that you are reading more into the question than he explicitly says. What leads you to think that he's in favor of the draft? He doesn't state one way or the other whether he wants a draft. Some opponents of the war such as Congressman Charles Rangel favor a draft because many more families would bare the brunt of the war, and there might be a larger anti-war movement.
Today a large number of young people in the army are from working class or poor families in rural and urban areas, and they joined the military because they didn't have the money or opportunity to go to college. If congressmen had to consider that their own children or grandchildren will have to go to war and die, they might be more motivated to work to stop the war than they are when other people's family members die.
I think his question was framed in a very pro-draft manner. I also disagree with Rangel; if the draft occurs, it does not mean an end to war in the american empire; it means that bush has a fighting force with which to expand his middle east takeover to Iran. The democratic congress needs to stop the war themselves, not use backhanded means like effectively murdering and enslaving young anti-war males.
I think they also need to impeach bush and cheney, which would make Pelosi president and thus enable an immediate end to the Iraq war. There are many ways for the politicians to put themselves on the line to end this war without it involving destroying my life with a draft.
Exactly. Ridiculous. If it takes boycotting the olympics to send a loud international message to China and other countries that something needs to be done, then I'm sure ANY country can forego a bunch of meaningless gold medals. Just goes to show how stupid patriotism is and how overly important people think it is.
Yes, the idea of nationalist pride, and possibly more so having to disappoint the corporate sponsors and television watchers of the Olympics would just be too much for them, apparently.
Holy crap I want to slap Clinton. All questions in these debates are really hypothetical. She's just cherry picking what she wants to answer. Take a freakin Stand on an issue!
What the hell? Why are they just completely IGNORING some people? Like Bill Richardson. Gosh some people just PISS me off!

Whats with the "raise your hand" questions? Issues are more complex than just raising a hand if you agree or disagree.

If you listen to the question, he wasn't advocating for a draft to come back. He just asked a question about it.
