@looveelee We do have an independent judiciary but our legislative and executive branches are combined in the House of Commons. We also have an appointed (as opposed to elected) Senate. It's very similar to the way the U.K. functions.
Yeah it's a republic. also, no stooges in 15 years? I saw it on tv about a month ago.. and they also have a 24 hour stoogeathon every year on amc on tmc (or one of those channels like that..)
This video is not wrong -- but neither are you. The correct answer is that we are a democratic republic. Representatives are chosen using democratic methods -- so the claim that democracy would be negated is correct. He isn't saying that we'd no longer be a democracy, but that there would be no more democracy.
@cwalniuk True, we are representative government. We use democracy to carry out that representative government. Democracy is more of practice than a style of government.
@mrgently A "republic"....also known as "representative democracy" is a form of democratic government. A republic, by definition may have no hereditary rulers, so differs from constitutional monarchy. In the study of government, the term "democracy" may be qualified as "direct" or "indirect" (representative".) People have been too influenced by John Birchers splitting hairs. Direct democracy in a country of 300 million would be unwieldy, even impossible.

Yea, to claim to know so much about politics, how do you not know that America isn't a democracy? We're a republic.
