  • I miss it.Loved the upper deck overhang.

  • A coney island hotdog, vernors soda and tiger stadium, it was better than christmas

  • im disliking this because this place was gorgeous!

  • So what do baseball stadiums do differently than football stadiums, Tiger stadium went from 1912-1999 as a field for the Tigers to play on, but the Silverdome couldnt last 30 years? the Lions only played there from 1975-2001, really?

  • Just dynamite it... my say..

  • I saw Reggie Jackson's monster home run here on TV for the 1971 All-Star game. It struck the light tower on the right field roof. It would easily have gone 600 feet or more if it did not hit anything.

  • i grew up 6 block from the old tiger stadium was a big part of childhood been to the stadium many times sad to see it go some say make way for the future but the old stadium was huge and important of the city part of what made up the sity's idenity really wish it didn't go

  • You guys keep talking about the new ball park and how nice it is. Tiger Stadium had so much significance throughout the years!

I dont think we'll ever see a Babe Ruth ever play at Comerica Park. You understand what I'm trying to say?

  • Whatever, the new ballpark is awesome. The old place was part of my childhood and I still hang out in corktown. The old Detroit is history and we need to move on and make Detroit a better place to live. The Bird is the word.

  • i hate to see this! i loved this place i have only been to the new park 2 times and will never go back. the seating sucks your to far from the feild and it to inpersonal. and its not a real ball park like the old one.

  • Glad they tearing that peice of crap down!! hey detrot say it with me, FUTURE!

  • @breezwonder You can't spell Detroit.

  • @1981CrueHead The typo is irrelevant. Tiger stadium is gone. Thats whats important.

  • my uncle bought 4 seats hes always lived in detroit

  • I am almost in tears. My whole life as a kid I wanted to go see a game at tigers stadium but we never had enough money, as a adult I moved away saying I would go see a game there, then I heard they were tearing it down. It's like a piece of my childhood is being torn down. I didn't get to go see a game there. This sucks!! RIP I guess.

  • well whinge whinge fuckin whinge

  • Am I wrong, or what?? I was in Detroit in 2003. And I was infront of stadium, where are big tigers statues. So, is that this place which I'm watching on video, or there are two tigers stadium? Because, as I can remember, it look great back than!! Sad, I can imagine yours feeling!!

  • that's the new stadium, they moved out of this one in the vid and into that new one in like 2000 or something

  • Well, that's good. I saw couple videos about Detroit fallin a parts, and I thougt: It can't be that new stadium, it is so bad!! But, anyway I understand you, In Zagreb are demolitions of old buildings, and then they build new building, and they look similar, everithing gets uglyer!!

  • the orange seats if i could i would take one of them they are very valuable. is this only a partial demolition?

  • Actually right now it's only partial. A conservancy group has raised enough money to stop the demolition at the original configuration as it was in 1912. Currently that's what's left. Meaning a horseshoe shaped portion around home plate and the entire playing field. They have until the spring to see if they can raise enough money to make it into a museum. It's been sitting vacant since September 1999.

  • the city should've put money into that. even though detroit isnt as wealthy as it used to be. but still i love the way that stadium is shaped. did they take out the original home plate? like put it a baseball museum? they should've kept maintence on that. if they can restore it and turn it into a stadium i would go there make my parents take to the city an wear my a's stuff lol .

  • Tiger stadium was the oldest park in mlb

  • Actually Fenway Park in Boston opened up the same day April 12, 1912. Both were state of the art ballparks but got overshadowed in the newspaper because that was the day the Titanic sank.

  • really, i never knew that about the stadiums, same day as the titanic!! thats wild, its also my bithday and im from michigan and saw many games at tiger stadium back in the 70s and 80s.

  • @concretejunglemedia Actually, Titanic sank in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912, after striking the iceberg at 23:40 on April 14.

  • tied with fenway they both opened in 1912

  • Yes, they did take home plate out and they have displayed it in the new ball park (Comerica Park). As for the maintenance, the city paid for maintenance like mowing the grass, etc. But that was the extent of it. If it was up to the city they would have tore it down a week after the last game in 1999. They've really handled the situation poorly. I put up a new video taken today on 10-18-2008. What you see standing is what we're trying to save.

  • Haven't the Tigers been playing in Comerica Park since 2000? What was the holdup in tearing it down?

  • 1- they were unsure what they are going to do with it

2- they allowed groups to try to come up with monies to try to salvage some of it

3- demolition costs a lot and we all know detroit isn't loaded with money anymore due to economy and kwame's party spending :-)

  • Im not a tigers fan (white sox) but this is sad.
