Fine, save this seal, I guarantee the whales will find another. So then you go a step further, and follow the pod around saving all the seals they hunt. This causes the orcas to starve and die, is that what your goal was? If the seals don't die, the whales will.

Their job is to capture nature on film, (without getting involved) and that's what they done. You shouldn't go looking at nature videos if you aren't able to cope with the way nature works.

So called killer whales are NOT WHALES! They are large dolphins, which is why like dolphins they eat MEAT/FISH & hunt in packs.This has been proven by DNA. Orcas have even interbred with dolphins in captivity (goggle whalefin) In contrast, actual 'Whales' eat krill / plankton. This orca killed that sealion in the exact same way the orca in seaworld killed its trainer (RIP)
If I were in that boat, I will try my level best to save that seal but these guys have disregarded on purpose coz they want to film the orcas attack on that poor seal. The sealion was trying to get on the boat becase that's were it came from. Animals don't naturally try to board boats.
National Geographies always happens to catch animals fighting or eating each other on expensive film. Why? Because they set it up. They're not just wondering around with a camera until something happens.
There are boom condenser mics, high rate film, and expensive cameras all prepped and ready.
i'm more interested in why whales would bother capturing a sealion, they're big but not THAT big to feed a few whales.
most likely though this boat was hanging around trying to capture various aquatic life forms (which would eventually be compiled & sorted eg filming whales & crabs, crabs go into the crab documentary, whales into the whale documentary)
the underwater shots are probably cameras somehow attached to the bottom of the boat that can swivel.

@Sin6667 It is federal offense to touch, capture or possesing any seal or sea lions in California. Sea Lions are not something you can buy and release it at will. If you have seen one in person before, you can tell that is a fully grown male sea lions. They don't afraid of people. They snatch catches from fishermen. Sea lions actually occupied fishermen wharf in San Francisco. They jumped on the anchored boats and make a colony out of them.

As logical as your explaination sounds, it is not true.
The crew does in fact wander around, and wait for things to happen. They have thousands of hours of footage of "eventless" nature. I am glad they take the time.
@Sin6667 I think NG is quite reputable and would be above that. I know that Wild Kingdom did in the past and some people still say there is quite a bit of staging in wildlife documentaries though.

The sealion was trying to get on the boat becase that's were it came from. Animals don't naturally try to board boats.
National Geographies always happens to catch animals fighting or eating each other on expensive film. Why? Because they set it up. They're not just wondering around with a camera until something happens.
There are boom condenser mics, high rate film, and expensive cameras all prepped and ready.

i know the likes of Dave Attenborough (spelt right?) spend AGES in locations & set up cameras all over jungles for hours to capture nature.
poor guys that have to watch & edit those tapes.
its more likely that the sealion thought the boat was land/ice of some form when panciking & tried to get onto it.
its nature though & they are getting paid to film aspects of creatures hunting/mating/sleeping etc.
they can't step in to aid + sealions are ferocious fuckers

i'm more interested in why whales would bother capturing a sealion, they're big but not THAT big to feed a few whales.
most likely though this boat was hanging around trying to capture various aquatic life forms (which would eventually be compiled & sorted eg filming whales & crabs, crabs go into the crab documentary, whales into the whale documentary)
the underwater shots are probably cameras somehow attached to the bottom of the boat that can swivel.

I mean, you'd be pretty pissed off if you'd been raised in captivity and then a TV crew came along, paid your carers and dropped you in a feeding frenzy.

@Sin6667 this is so true, if i wild sealion stumbled upon a boat i dont think that it wud try to jump on it not knowing what lies in that boat unless it has been there. it wud be more scared. n expensive tools all prepared...thats very suspicious. i understand that they can carry expensive stuff, but everything is all prepared and setup like they know it was going to happen

@Sin6667 It is federal offense to touch, capture or possesing any seal or sea lions in California. Sea Lions are not something you can buy and release it at will. If you have seen one in person before, you can tell that is a fully grown male sea lions. They don't afraid of people. They snatch catches from fishermen. Sea lions actually occupied fishermen wharf in San Francisco. They jumped on the anchored boats and make a colony out of them.

@mva1985 well if you all feel like you say you do i would recommend to never get a pet and become a vegetarian because in any case that is part of the food chain all organisms need to eat so no matter if they did or did not they did a good favor while doing another but you have to understand sometimes doing the right thing isnt doing the right thing

@aloe842002 i don't think i said anything about it NOT being a part of the food chain. National Geographic is supposed to be highly regarded organization and IF they set it up shame on them... if they actually caught it in the act totally different.
I would have helped the seal and then released it when it had a fighting chance. This type of stuff will all come to an end someday at the Second Coming.

@Sin6667 I think NG is quite reputable and would be above that. I know that Wild Kingdom did in the past and some people still say there is quite a bit of staging in wildlife documentaries though.
