Even though this song has nothing to do with American wars, my heart goes out for those who put their lives on the line for their "patriotic duty". God bless all soldiers...of all nationalities.
Peace comes at at a high price as sacrifice for those who have trod the places we now trod ourselves...until there is peace we stand where walls are our posts and there are walls, until the world can come as one without the greed, need and the worry about seed, it is still up to us.....what will our children of the future say?
God this songs makes me weep now that I am older and I understand. 10 years of 23 year old slaughtered by bombs.... when I was their age, I thought it was a romantic song. Great great music. Beautful and with intelligent lyrics, a rare combo.
@drake1636 Those were the first two words that came to mind. That episode of the west wing was television's finest moments. This song always takes me to that scene.
@UrMomWatchesThis Bush started turning this country into a poverty stricken wasteland they do not care about how much money we make because they still make the same I personally have 3 jobs to try and stay ahead and it is not easy still we need to find a president that is making decisions for the people not for him to go on vacation every month he is just enjoying his life with all the money and everything he ever wants and we are stuck trying to stay warm in the winter.
@troy5251 Looks to me like Obama is actually trying though. So you're wrong for saying that Obama drove this country into the ground when Bush did it. Now everyones blaming Obama when it's not easy to pull everything back up. He's even working on making health care free. But whatever. I could care less. I'm moving to Canada.
@troy5251 But you also need to think about how it isn't always as simple as that. The president doesn't get to just command something and it happens. Bills have to be passed. He already removed DADT which is HUUUGE for this country. It just seems like Bush fucked shit up, put a lot on Obama's plate, and everyones just like "lol lets blame the black guy."
@n8tracks he should spend more time making things right instead of taking vacations after all he is the one that ran for president in the first place if he couldn't handle the job maybe he should resign

@cyberqat Servicemen will always, always be needed. Why? Because Evil exists in this world and must be fought. Call me Religious. Ok. Facts are stubborn things. God bless all who serve. We are free and speak English, not Japanese or German, because of our Servicemen.
@cyberqat Soldiers do their job. Soldiers are made to kill. While peace is a wonderful concept, it can never exist as long as people are alive. That is the sad truth of people. We are a warrior culture, we are violent. And even those who say they aren't violent, in the right situations, we are capable of even the most terrible crimes...ones that soldiers do, and ones the can't speak of.
@cyberqat As a former Marine Sergeant, and a Vietnam veteran, I assure you we absolutely could have won that war. If we didn't intend to win, then why send our troops to fight and die. Fighting for peace is like Fucking for Virginity! Let soldiers in the field determine what requirements they have, not the idiot politicians. The US is invasive in every country in the world. If we weren't invited in, we should mind our own business and quit throwing money at the wrong people.
@knudsenaz I met a Marine who said they used to blow babies away in front of their mothers to make villagers talk. He was a kid of 23 and after hearing that I could never stand the sight of him. Yes you could have absolutely have won that war but I am glad you did not.

Well I never said it was right or wrong? I just stated a fact, the fact is that people are willing to kill to for their country. In your responses try to to use so many cliches, it weakens your argument. I would ask that you consider this comparison...Would you kill to protect your family? Almost all people would say yes, so why is it so hard to understand that people would kill to protect their countrymen, which are often referred to as brothers and sisters? It is a difficult truth to accept
@lessthanzero8 if you haven't served in the military you don't even know what this song is about. your soft liberal ideals can't comprehend the mind of real men.
@shafta99 You do realize that I was sticking up for the military right ? Its obvious that reading for comprehension is not your strong suit. I am actually a conservative, but you go ahead and generalize about things. I do have a question though, does being in the military make someone a "real man". and if so what is a real man? Can someone not serve in the military and be a real man? Just curious because your statement lacks any logic.

@Mav333333 And I THANK YOU also friend. You are one of the few who understand what this comment site is for.You are "AWESOME" to thank someone and understand the VNam conflict. No one asks to go to war .We were called and we went.Thank you
the first time i heard this i was living witha nam vet. he had ptsd. the war impacted his life in so many ways. he recieved the medal of honor. he knew what pain and suffering was. he came into my life when i felt i had no hope or faith. my soul was lost and bleeding. he taught me that you can rise above your pain and suffering and learn to live and love again. he has passed this life and this song fills with love for him
If you are a truth seeker, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click on the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says. Everyone needs to see this. The Present will turn this world right-side up if it reaches enough people. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.
This is it. No civilian will ever understand. Its not about you, or some cause, or government, or some ideal, or some notion. Its about your battle buddies. Its about the men who go through it with you, your brothers who walk through the fire with you, and the men who fell in that fire. No matter what nation your from, or what side you come down on. I've been with my Brothers in Arms, I've fought against my Brothers in Arms. Its different for us. Its not personal, but we all respect each other.
@zwiedner Actually I get it on a VERY small degree. It's interesting how diversity, conflict and competition can bring out a heavy sense of companionship, purpose and comradery . On a small scale it's like how teammates in sports share a bond and even fighters have a deep respect for each other. I also think its how gangs are so popular and people will die for them. Please don't think they I am putting any of these on the same level as a solder in battle but this is how I relate to it.
to all of you people saying killing is not the answer: December 7, 1941. Pearl Harbor. Japan attacks the United States. U.S. goes to war. Where would we have been if we didn't fight back? September 11, 2001. Taliban hijacks 4 planes and crashes 2 into the Twin Towers, one attempt in the Pentagon, and one landed safely because of the passenger that fought back. How would America be if we didnt fight back? Over run speaking Arabic. So yes war does help. ill agree war isnt good but have respect
They're saying, no one should fight wars ever period; not taliban, not 1941 Japanese or Germans, not Americans. Life to me personally is too much of a sacrifice for any temporary gains or loses.
@Chimpvanzee You most certainly have your right to your opinion. And I don't altogether disagree with what you say. But (and i ask this in the most respectful manner that this format allows), how many combat situations have you ever been in? And I know that you are as entitled to your opinion as anyone else, but HATE is not the answer.
I draw tears AS i SAY THIS ... wE ARE FOOLS TO MAKE WAR ON OUR BROTHERS IN ARMS...
This song is about people who have used their lives and bodies for a cause. I believe it can be any group fighting for anything. Because people are the same, and the price paid is the same.
GeorgeTel100 has not listened to the last line: We are fools to make war on our Brothers In Arms.
If you weren't there don't comment against those who were. The song is honoring those who were and those who died.I spent 13 months there . I didn,t ask to go but I went and don't want any thanks.
@righthandmotion1 Please Sir, there is as far as I know, not any American that just quit trying...I myself followed Orders and the order was to leave. God bless you for your service.
in memory of 2 budies of mine that i served with in iraq. sfc travis scott bachman and ssg courtney dean finch. you will forever be in my heart. i will never forget you. i love you both my brothers in arms. amen.
@munroc70 ten-hut......I salute you munroc70, and all other servicemen who serve our country, including my grandfather who served in WW2 as an air born infantry with the 101st Airborne.
War is hell. But so is watching 3000+ innocent Americans die on 09-11-01. So was watching Hitler murder Germans who weren't his religion. So was watching Pol Pot slaughtering innocents who dared disagree with him.
@TheUserMichael I will and have killed for my country and if needed would do it again, This is not about that . It is about the brotherhood you gain once in combat--it is a bond
@TheUserMichael i dont care if i have to kill or die for my country. the reason is i have ptsd from being a homeless teen and getting shot at, the way i look at it is if i die that person would just be helpig me but if i have to kill ill jut be happy cuss im a hunter and when i hear the round fly past my ear just pisses me off.
@TheUserMichael I must disagree with you. Plenty of people have said and continue to say that they would kill for their country. In fact I would argue that most people who sign up for the military are willingly accepting the fact that they may be called upon to kill for their country.
@TheUserMichael I only read this comment no more than 10 minutes ago and I gave it some thought I'm only 16 and I'm not in any type or am planing to be in type of military kind of activities, but here's what i think I've your in the marines army etc.. I believe is the same as saying i will kill for my country, although I do doubt anyone would actually like to kill another human being, as for "I'll proudly die for my country", not everyone can go through with that actions speak louder than words
Vietnam veterans who returned to us, you are not forgotten and I hope someday you can forgive those Americans who disrespected you upon your arrival home. They were the loud and obnoxious few, not the silent majority who had been standing by helplessly (praying for you always)
I served in the Navy but was not granted the opportunity to serve in a time of war. For those who did serve, we are all, and should be indebted with not only our lives but our freedoms.
@ElChevelle From a Former Air Force member I thank you for your service brother. Honor and Thabnks to all those as well who served, brothers and sisters, whatever service, whatever function. Come what may we arehere to stay comrades.
Hoorah! This song makes it worth all of mine and my shipmates, and any true vet's service! All the blood sweat and tears are never forgotten, but there's nothing like appreciation from any individual or group to breath life back into ours and our families' lives. Thanks again to Dire Straits. This song is a true classic.
This song is NOT Anti ... it's PRO FREEDOM ... listen to the words ... And we were and still are Brothers In Arms ... I was in the Special Forces A Team as a medic on a 12 man team. My first Team Captain was born/raised south american and we were in the mountains & jungles fighting for the cause.. then I left and skiied the Russian / Norwegian Border north of the Artic, then the shit hole in the middle east ... our Embassy was over run in Terhan, and finally, Angola to fight the redtide...
Wow the art in this video is awesome.

the first time i heard this i was living witha nam vet. he had ptsd. the war impacted his life in so many ways. he recieved the medal of honor. he knew what pain and suffering was. he came into my life when i felt i had no hope or faith. my soul was lost and bleeding. he taught me that you can rise above your pain and suffering and learn to live and love again. he has passed this life and this song fills with love for him

@zwiedner Couldn't have said it better myself...
charliedontsurf1 5 months ago

ProjectLoK 5 months ago
@Chimpvanzee When you say "Killing is not the answer." you say it to everyone .
U.S.A. , Germany , Japan , Afghanistan etc .
When you say "We are all equal !" you mean everyone by saying we .
TheUserMichael 5 months ago

War is hell. But so is watching 3000+ innocent Americans die on 09-11-01. So was watching Hitler murder Germans who weren't his religion. So was watching Pol Pot slaughtering innocents who dared disagree with him.
