Because the bassoon has such a delicate sound it is important not to cover its play by too many and noisy other instruments ! My taste would pair it with base, bongos / brushed drums and piano or guitar.
@sabersk8r it's better in the upper register in the bassoon blend wise because it sounds more saxophone like... also if you have a plastic or wooden bassoon that can make a huge difference to the blend...
@2nitewepartay if just the fingerings were not so difficult, it would be a lot more popular. its past the time that someone should make a boehm key system for the basson, similar to flute or sax... i just dont play it because of the fingerings, it wouldnt let me improvise well as i do on the flute (only 15 keys, and i usually use only 11. there is one i nearly never use)
same of the Oboe. it could have flute fingering. even the keyed oboe requires cross fingerings for any note out of D major
That is awesome I play Tenor and Bassoon at my school and my teacher wont let me do a Jazz Bassoon.... such a shame it would sound so good, this is kinda how I pictured it to sound....
For some reason I always fet a connection of the soprano sax and the oboe and a connection between the tenor sax and bassoon mainly tonal wise. has anyone else noticed that?
OMG!!!! Are you the same guy who did that sexy and altogether harmolodic-y accordion solo? I can' believe that just one toned, tight body can hold all that talent! Where do you keep it all?
Wow that's really good. I happen to play bassoon myself and know that jazz is hard and not fit to be played on bassoon. Very nicely done, very well-accomplished. As fir RPz, I could do with some lessons.
GREAT !!! Bassoonist-Breaking new ground???...I don't think so. Good ideas, and execution...stop tonguing every #%~^@$& note, trust your fingers to play the time. Tenor Sax...SAME THING, the best shit you play is NOT articulated... I STILL Like It, Live your dream Guys, you deserve it. Great Tune and Rhythm Section. (Free lesson from RPz).

And they said there was no such thing... xD
Seriously, a great groove you guys have going here; the bassoon fits about as naturally into jazz as any saxophone, if played right.

Proving I was correct, there's a video on here of just that!

I think the bassoon would work awesome on Stan Getz or Paul Desmond-style cool jazz.

Great solo I'm jealous! But ya the only notes that come out of the bell are the lowest ones, so try micing the wing joint (or by the hands)

Shame the Tenor totally out-voiced the bassoonist. Can't really blame him though, I mean that is why the instrument was invented...
