  • is that sarcasm?

  • yeah, that's because all McCain suppporters are a bunch of Nazi klansmen who can't stand anybody non-white..you racist retard.

  • What better way to demonstrate TRUE care for the troops than to bring this man in, who was not afraid to speak truth to power? When dumped by the Bush circus, he said in his farewell speech, "You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment, but you cannot lead without it. And without leadership, command is a hollow experience, a vacuum often filled with mistrust and arrogance." Yup, sounds like Bush & Rummy to me.

  • When he's still working, did he take good care of the soldiers returning to the mainland from Iraq? I read somewhere that his department was harshly critized for not working hard enough to take care of returning soldiers.

  • No, that would be the Bush administration.

  • He was also harshly criticized for being "wildly off base," with his prediction for troop numbers. Careful what you read - there was an agenda-driven smear campaign targeted at Shinseki for some time - all of which proved to be nothing short of malicious.

  • That was the purview of Veteran's Affairs, which was (as Hibbs4Prez points out) was pretty much gutted and rendered irrelevant by the Bush administration hacks appointed to lead it. The agency under Shinseki will finally care for veterans in a manner in which this country has a moral imperative to maintain.

  • Well said!

  • I love it...I hope Shinseki's words haunt that scum Rumsfeld the rest of his miserable days. They won't though...it would require him to be self-reflective, intellectually honest and contrite. Anyhow, another solid choice by Obama for his cabinet. Good vid post as always heathr!

  • General Eric Shinseki is the former Army Chief of Staff who testified to Congress that the U.S. would need several hundred thousand troops to contain Iraq.

At the time, Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld and National Security Adviser Paul Wolfowitz laughed at Shinseki and said they would need much less troops.

Shinseki was forced to retire by the Bush Administration for his criticism. However, Shinseki's prediction proved eerily correct, and Bush was forced to initiate a "surge" to compensate.

  • Sad to say, but it be hard to find several hundred thousand kids nowadays willing to serve.

  • You can find them today on the North & South Korean border.
