  • I live in CT and have passed all those lights at least 2 times and some in Danbury and Brookfield every day, the last light ( in German Town Danbury ) is right down the road from where I live and a pass it at least 6 times a week it is across from the fire house at a busy intersection and I get stuck at it all the time in my mind these traffic lights are a problem

  • There are companies who specialize in traffic management. Instead of sensors, as they are called LOOPS, video camera are more in cost but dont have to be replaced. Everytime your repave and mill the road, the loops are destroyed.

  • When I lived in ct the traffic light was bad they so short green arrows and they would turn off suddenly sometimes there wasnt green arrows when you needed one like dixwell and church st and also treadwell

  • Why not roundabouts?

  • I love you .Mitt The LDS Pit Dweller For President typical habitual White Christian colonial hypocrisy(G.D.America

  • Driving in the US and Canada is the biggest nuissance I have ever experienced. Speed limits are ridiculously low, most traffic lights are poorly programed and many drivers are outright dangerous in 3ton trucks. Most of all though I hate the stupid speed limits. Consider the TransCanada highway; thousands of miles of road and a 100kmh(60mph) speed limit: it's stupid! How come the unregulated German Autobahn produces half as many fatalities per capita a year? Sympathetic greetings from Germany

  • Originally, I am from CT, the drivers in CT are some of the best in the country, IMO. NV, where I now live, has some of the worst (forget if it ever snowed). Also, the dumbest school speed limits, you can drive 25 MPH through an elementary school area; but, a High School speed limit is 15 MPH; I guess kids get dumber in NV as they get older.

  • @ethanwiner dude lol so funny I came across this video... I recently moved out of CT but was born and raised in New England and CT is the state I originally earned my license some 8 yrs ago. Anyway at the time I remember sitting in these riduclous situations with people or by myself and cussing to either them, or myself "Its fucking 2010! (at the time) Lets update this god damn light technology" hahaha

  • do u have ur license suspended for some months is u violate red light, or just a fine>

  • Connecticut is so beautiful! I can't wait to get out of boring, hot, and disgustingly humid Florida!

  • 13:42 OMG!!!! $2.58 a gallon?!? i miss the good ol' days!

  • @LiamTheMovieMaker @LiamTheMovieMaker This is cheap !! It''s over £6 or $9.62 Canadian here in the UK :(

  • I Love Connecticut !

  • Nice video :-)

  • omg.. there is a law in connectcut that says you cant shoot with weapon in public freeway.. haha.. wise americans.. how did they get that all by themselves?? :O

  • How pathetic that there are no computer sensors in the US like in Europe, which sense if there is traffic waiting, how many vehicles and in which order they arrived. Then the lights change accordingly.

  • Connecticut is talking--anybody listening? ;])

  • The state of Connecticut has more important things on its mind than what the indentured servants are doing on the streets.

  • I love this one !

Thank you for sharing the new video

  • Ethan, a pet peve of mine is cars running red lights.

  • @lisa1236424 Agreed, it's dangerous. But people often do that because they're frustrated with lights that are red for no reason. If a car was really coming, they wouldn't go through the light! Though some people are rude and cut you off.

  • Thank you for sharing !

    Connecticut ROCKS

  • I kind of disagree with the information you displayed. It defeats the purpose of having a light at an intersection to let people go straight and left on a red light. Put a stop signa there instead. You also only looked at the cons of traffic lights. If we didn't have them, you would've been in a ton of collisions by now. While I disagree with your opinion, I still respect it though.

  • @177987auprr1 Thanks for your good comments. I agree about left on red. Really, the lights should just be set to flash at off-peak hours. That would solve most of the problems. And obviously we need traffic lights some places some times. That's a given.

  • @EthanWiner I understand. And like I said, I still respect your opinions.

  • I like LED lights the best

  • I've heard many complaints in particulary by out-of-towners regarding Stamford's timing of traffic signals. The common one is "I'm always driving up to a red light". I think partially to blame is the fact that Stamford's downtown streets, even post-urban renewal(1970s) still largely echo rural/agrarian paths established centuries ago. These patterns serve a modern growing downtown most inefficiently, and are hard to signal equitably and fairly.

  • I understand the pic of NYC traffic signal in the your great video, but dont understand the use of pic of canon city, colorado. That is CDOT 2nd Gen traffic.

  • I test the cameras on my own occasionally to make sure the cameras have not been blown out of adjustment, which happens quite a lot in Texas. Everyday, we experience gusty winds, mostly from the Gulf.

Some of the problems we've had since I made that video you used have been fixed, but other made worse. Since I e-mailed them about the incorrect flashing to steady sequence, they installed even more proper lighting fixtures to keep traffic flowing, but there's still a few issues.

  • However, people have not adapted to the new computer controlled devices. In our city, we jumped from older lights controlled by a timer, to those controlled by computer and cameras used to detect vehicles. According to our state's law, people have to stop behind a stop line, but routinely, they stop on a crosswalk or in the middle of the intersection where the camera doesn't see them. This causes the light to never change, and complaints that the light doesn't work.

  • It's much better than the older systems that used timers. Those timers required constant adjustment to keep all of them working on close to the same time. Now, a significant amount of new devices are computer controlled and they are not programmed correctly, often causing traffic to build up when it shouldn't.

Since Texas banned detection devices that will not detect motorcycles (possibly also banning vehicle loops) at computer controlled lights, it has been better....

  • Hi Ethan. Great video. I wanted to follow up on your film. Excellent job!

I've studied traffic control for a while now and I have learned a lot. Even a good read of our state's transportation code enlighten me on what can be done with those control devices.

I wholly agree with your statement about the incompetence of people who program traffic control devices (traffic lights). Even in a small town such as the one I live in, it is a nightmare...

  • @pcwalker Excellent comments, thanks Phil. And thanks again for letting me use your video clip of the flashing traffic lights.

  • You can't have a 4-way yield. Remember back when no intersections had any signs? That's why they have stop signs now...

  • I agree over all with your argument but dissagree in some points. In sec 47 the driver did had a reason to stop, a pedestrian. He could have stop but choose to unsafely make a turn. The example does show aggressive driving but it does not prove it was due to the traffic lights. Also the statistics you show are almost 20 years old. Are they still relevant? I wish you had survey made by insurance companies which proved that poorly placed and calibrated traffic lights caused accidents.

  • Ethan has other reeeeeeally nice videos at his room treatment site! Nekkid!

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only person really annoyed by this. In the UK we don't have turn right on red but we do have roundabouts which are good in some cases. I can think of only one set of traffic lights near me that works as it should. Well said Ethan!

  • This guy has figured out the deliberate insanity of the CT DOT....It is a 666 Newington production. All these lights are manually controlled by Luciferean NWO puppets.

  • YOU DO OF COURSE REALISE THAT EVERYTHING YOU HAVE STATED IS ON PURPOSE !!

ALL OF WHICH YOU HAVE STATED SUGGESTS A PLOT....YES A DELIBERATE PLOT TO ENCOURAGE ACCIDENTS,DRAMA,PROBLEMS,ETC...THIS IS ALL ON PURPOSE.

THE BEST AND ONLY CURE FOR THIS INSANITY IS TO FLEE CT WHICH IS IS CONTROLLED BY LUCIFERIAN NEW WORLD ORDER DOT WHACKOS WHICH WILL BE CONTROLLING NOT ONLY THE TRAFFIC SIGNALS,BUT ALL ELSE !!

    THINK ABOUT IT....

  • I'm from a small city where this is a huge annoyance... I have suggested flashing red/yellow intersections in non-peak hours many times, but they just won't do it.

Stop treating people like idiots! If people know how to drive, I'm sure we can trust them to figure out when it's safe to proceed through an empty intersection!

    What a waste of time.

  • Wonderful video with real-life examples and level-headed suggestions.

  • So true I hope that people promote this video!

  • Great video, Ethan. Tell it like it is!

  • Obviously quite relevant ! Very welle explained and demonstrated.

  • Loved the traffic light at 13:55. Where can I get one? Keep swingin', Ethan!

  • I very much agree Ethan!

  • Terrific video, Ethan! I hope it raises awareness so that maybe the next generation of DOT planners might think more logically (much to the chagrin of ticket reveneurs).

Another area that annoys is those protected left green arrows that last for 2.5 seconds, just long enough for the car ahead of you to wake up and start moving. They need to sense the length of traffic in line and adjust arrow times accordingly.
