  • Is that Georgie Fame on the piano?

  • @hoonies81 I wondered that too !!!!!!!!

  • mr fame on keyboards, great stuff

  • Listen you DOPES. I am 75 and loved this music. Time is causing me to be silent, but there were so many of our BRIT singer songwriters who I LOVED..

    Earned MILLIONS for our country.

  • GEORGIE FAME ON KEYBOARD

  • A lovely song, full of memories, nostalgia. A night out with the boys.

  • A lovely song, full of memories, nostalgia

    .

  • Georgie Fame on Keyboards...@ournaney

  • @wasssuppp08 Never sure with AFL, it always seemed a bit of a joke to him. He's the same in the vids when with Amen Corner. Great voice, great musician though & still on tour!

  • thows were the days not a care in the world, flat on your face, the girl dissapearing out of your life, only to be replaced with another the weekend after, man i owe some apologies

  • WHOOPS! 2.45 failed to come in in time with his mime!

  • memories of 1975 wonderful. Life was so much simpler then

  • Is that Georgie Fame on Keyboards?

  • He promotes fox hunting and other bloodsports

  • BRINGS BACK OLD MEMORIES OF EARLY LOVE IN THE DAYS WHEN YOU LEFT THE HOLDING ARM OFF THE THE MIDDLE OF THE RECORD PLAYER SO THE SINGLE PLAYED OVER AND OVER . A WARM NIGHT AND A GIRL NAMED JULIE FIRST TIME FOR BOTH OF US .MY ONLY REGRET IS THE RECORD LASTED SOOOO LONG .JULIE WHERE ARE YOU NOW AND WHERES MY WALLET

  • love this, and isnt that mike mansfield introducing? so this would be from the show "supersonic?"

  • met andy a few years ago while opening a car boot sale in cardiff he is a very nice guy

  • OK,I love love LOVE the song, just curious though....does he mean legless as in the English term meaning drunk?

  • @blunklaura

He certainly does, Laura! "Wide Eyed and Legless" is a song which is all about the perils of the 'demon drink'.

I guess that there are many people in the UK - and indeed in other countries - who can identify with the lyrics of this classic track (which, I believe, reached # 4 in the British charts in December 1975/January '76).

Incidentally, one of the records that prevented Mr Fairweather-Lowe from reaching the very top of the charts was the "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

  • Keep it up Andy ! Sing more song like this one!

  • Mr. AF. Low. Same thing again like every night the glass keeps MY HOOCH alight. I dont care what anybody thinks. I troll with you, Mr. D. Edmunds and so many of our BRIT stars EVERY NIGHT. Never had the chance before. As I troll through ALL the windows I stay up later in the night till morning. THANK you ALL for the MUSIC since I was first able to see so many of you GROW from the SIXTIES and STILL be with me. THANK YOU.

  • One of the greatest rock sidemen of all time.He played with everyone , The Who, Clapton ,Roger Waters....

  • Such an evocative song. And a truly killer voice.

  • This is a seriously deep sad song about a difficult subject. Not easy at all to write a song this good but its definately for the serious music and lyric listeners..oh and yes..amazing voice too.

  • @arfurlife

Well said, sir! I couldn't have put it better myself.

  • He plays Roger Waters live band now...seen him at the gigs! Man he's hyper..

  • Is that Georgie Fame on Keyboards????

  • love this song and this man.

  • AFL's got such an awesome voice...too bad he never got the recognition he deserved, AND deserves, over here

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • Mr. F.W. L, I hope that I am not out of order BUT there should be a book about how all the arrangements(great) were made. Your voice is distinctive and it should be shown how it was used by the record companies. Thank you for MY listening pleasure.

  • Thank you for letting me listen to you again . What a classic song. It has always been a guide to stop my excesses of the hard stuff. I am 75 years young and have not stopped but now drink only while listening to the music which you and other BRITS gave us THANK YOU. Tommo

  • Oh my god , 35 years ago & it seems like yesterday . I have this record & I remember I played it so much that I almost wore it out . Wonderful times & great great memories . I'm so happy that I was around then as a teenager , enjoying gems like this . You just can't beat it . Fabulous !

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it.... brings back memories of my teens.....shivers down my spine...my first love sang it to me....

  • 1975 is really a long time ago but listening to this brings it all back like yesterday. Thanks for sharing the vid.

  • brilliant song

  • Andy is now Claptin's rhythm guitarist.

  • ...and the great Georgie Fame on keyboards !

  • I may be tea-total but brilliant song and singer.

  • lol

  • Great song Hic.

  • I went to see AFL the other night and he's still brilliant!!!!

  • What can one say??.......A fantastical recording!!

    .....It surely is....Not a doubt......Goodnight and God bless.....Steve

  • That's B J Cole on steel- played for Hank Wangford- Hank called him "Manley Footwear"- all the band had silly names!.BJ Is in a band called Lush Life- they've just released an album- I know this because I met the lady who runs the label- Untied Artists in December- they cover Cristo Redentor which Harvey Mandel included in his very far out 1968 tripsville album of the same name- they also do Sleepwalk. Good old B J- He doesn't hail from Pocatello but "He drag's a pretty mean bar". (Prison Band)

  • I went to a university " built over a bus stop" or so my politics lecturer described it.The town's skating rink was under the building and I can remember studying for my finals exams whilst this track come reverberating up from the skating rink underneath the university library I was sitting in! I used to have a scar on my hand where some drunk dragged me down on to the ice and somebody else skated over my hand! The town? A favourite haunt for the Yorkshire Ripper at the time.

  • I love the overuse of the swirl transition back then. the joys of new technology.

  • blinded by the light jeeez who were you

  • Remember in 1976 waking up besides someone in the morning and this came on the radio as we lay there in bed together.say no more!

  • Great video thanks. Went to see him in the Dilmun Club Bahrain 2 nights ago. great gig, brought back a lot of old memories, we all ended up like the song !!

  • Reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine---"Wide legged and eyeless".

Thanks for dusting this off.Incidentally,AFL always looks bored even when singing high tempo stuff.

  • Nice one!!!

  • @BelleVue1969 I knew her sister ...Wide legged and eyeless!

  • this is great

  • This was from Mike Mansfield's TV show Supersonic from the '70s. that's Mike at the beginning "Cuing the music". there are some more great clips from his how on YouTube. Look out for Marc Bolan and Adam Ant!!!

  • grerat song..but he seems bored singing bit !!!

  • i think thats partly the appeal =)

  • Going to see him tonight in Ventnor (Isle of Wight) Really looking forward to it!

  • Wow this guy's got a voice on him and never seems to be taking it too seriously even as he brings the soul. I'm just discovering him and there you are going to see him this very night. Youtube is the oddest time machine... and it hasn't come along a moment too soon to help us catch a glimpse and a sample of all this great music and names we only see on a list somewhere!

  • has it really been all these years? where has the time gone!!!!!

  • I love this song by Andy Fairweather low

  • There's a little bit of McCartney here and you can hear Clapton all over. Kind of reminds me of Gerry Groom (check out his album Twice in a Blue Moon---awesome).

  • Thank you for posting this great clip. So many memories of people and places, all good

  • This song is very pertinent to me from back in the 1970's! Couldn't get free from the shame!

  • Now he playes bass and accostic for Clapton, the man has moved on big style.

  • He does'nt plays for Clapton anymore.

  • He does play with Clapton. I saw Clapton May 2009 at the RAH and AFL was his right hand man - not bass - that was Willie Weekes. He was AWESOME. Last time I saw him was late 60s with Amen Corner and he is better than ever

  • I saw Roger Waters in irvine, CA, in 2007, & AFH was in his band too. I'm sure I was one of the few, who knew who he was!

  • Fantastic song - whoever decided that it should have a pedal steel guitar in it is a genius

  • looking at this vid and the one of andy today just goes to show how quick life passes us by i'm 60 and saw amen corner at the royal tottenham in the sixties id love to know what life andy lived after the split of a great group

  • i remember this clearly...good days

  • Great video ,is it B.J. cole on pedal steel guitar???

  • Bloody wonderful!

Fantastic early teen memories -magic and priceless!

Sound of my youth, hot summers and adolescent longings.

Thanks for uploading - wonderful! :)

  • Saw this and bought his new cd. Brill

  • Bought this record a few weeks ago for 1€.

Didnt know anything about him. The whole record ("La Booga Rooga"-LP) is awesome...but this is my favourite!

  • Legend

  • awesome

  • I remember seeing this... great vid thanks

    (yes it is georgie fame!)

  • Great classic, still sounds brill.

  • Wasn't this once covered by Marty Feldman and Arthur Askey?

  • clever!

  • That really made me laugh out loud!! Brilliant!!

  • Brilliant record-sums up a lifetime of blurred blissful memories!

  • i saw andy at the Streatham Ice Rink in 1967 at the ripe old age of 13 (me not him) i screamed so much that i passed out and had to be carried off by my sister and my friends. I wonder if he remembers playing there.

  • Saw Andy on his Low Rider Tour, Absolutely brilliant,& ably supported by his band. Andy is a great guitarist & what a distinctive voice! Did a mixed set showcasing his amazing versatility. A message for his record company:- Wide Eyed & Legless should be re issued I'm sure it would be a big hit all over again! Andy stayed behind after the gig to sign autographs & chat. A great bloke & IMHO highly underated!!

  • FYI.that is most definately georgie fame on the keyboards...

  • This is so beautiful. Does anyone have any of the other tracks from this album, such as "8-Ton Crazy"?

  • not georgie fame

  • i think you'll find that is georgie fame....

  • Is that Georgie fame on electric piano?

  • Yes. Not with him now of course but Andy has palyed with quite a few of the greats. Saw him this week at the Colne R&B Festival. He's a bit of a grumpy old man these days but I was thoroughly entertained. Great musician/singer/song writer.

  • Thanks for the follow up. I guess we're all gonna get grumpy & old one day!

    Cheers

  • this was me most of my youth, Mary remember the elephant & castle round town then back on the bus then i had to come all the way back on my own, may be not

  • B J Cole on pedal steel!!!! YAY!

  • Saw him in Newbury Corn Exchange last night. He was awesome and so were the band. Paul Beavis - dream drummer.

  • I like this song, it's one of my dad's favourites. I''m only 13 too. :)

I just wish more people would like rock and this sort. If i told people they would laugh. Hip-hop is not good it is taking over.

  • Did andy have any children, to follow in his footsteps.

  • andy on my account getting footage of him in v.i.p andy is my wifes uncle chek it out

  • like this one, love the song, and video, well done Andy,x

  • Wasn't that John David on bass?

  • Nice, I like it :)

  • sin palabras de lo bonito

  • Wow seeing this video rolled the years away. About time it was re released. Great song.. Can think of a few contemporaries who should be able to identify with the lyrics, Gime Gime Gime... a wine here and a wine there... yer modern backing old yet relevant lyrics

  • Andy is touring again this year - I've got my tickets!!! and we're also promised a new album. Can't wait.

  • love you mam xxx

  • Georgie Fame on the keyboards.

  • Wow! Is that true that Georgie Fame is on the key boards!!!

The more I look a yuotube, the more I see that the music world was small!!!

    Maybe it's different today...

  • Marvellous

  • a good ambassador for welsh and british music who never got the acclaim he deserved

  • Go to Andys web site as he is touring in May

  • Vintage: A.F.L

Classic: 70's kids TV (I think the show was called "Supersonic"

Fantastic: Trying to keep a straight face whilst singing a song about alcohol abuse to screaming 12 year old teeny boppers

  • suuuperb!
