Keeping lions in cages in the Northern Hemisphere is considered "conservation"? There are protected parks in parts of Africa where lions are native to that help conserve their populations. Being put on exhibition in cold climates is not humane.

What if illegal poaching takes place there? The cages were the best way to keep the lions. At least poachers will not kill the lions, knowing that it is illegal to do so and they can't get the lion out of the cage anyway.

Yes this is cruel to these animals, but remember that when our western countries were in a similar state of development as Somaliland is today, we treated animals even more curelly than that!
For example dog fighting was very popular in England as a sport just 100 years ago, and cat burning was a common entertainment in France at that time. And the zoos were all just like this one.
It's not an excuse, but gotta realize that no culture has ever started to treat animals until humans live well.

I remember as a child visiting one of Mogadisho's animal zoos there, lions, oryxes, ostriches, giraffes, elephants, crocodiles,gazelas, and many types of birds lived and there many visitors went for watching. Halal meat is normal. All Muslims do is cut the animal by its jugular vein with an extremely sharp knife. Its a quick and relatively painless death and its the best way to kill an animal especially in a country like somalia. Atleast our animals live in open farms and have a good life b4 death.

no it does not come from live animals- in the uk and eu strict rules (unlike most country's) are implemented - cows are killed with a bolt gun- it hits the head quicker than the nerve system can even register it so the animal- FEELS NOTHING!!!!!!!! pigs in the uk are shocked- again no pain as large shock and again too quick for nervous system- learn the mechanics of how bodies work, and killing methods first before posting stupid uniformed comments in fututre!!!!!!

Uh... Somalis don't eat lions for food. Trust me, I'm Somali. We only eat fish, cow, goats, chicken, etc. The normal stuff. And during the war, everyone was in danger - the rich Somalis, non-Somalis in the country, and animals. Besides zoos exist everywhere in the world. They're all cruel. There are zoos here in Canada were there are lions. It's especially cruel to put them in climates they are not found naturally. The lions here are skinny, hungry, and look so sad.

Keeping lions in cages in the Northern Hemisphere is considered "conservation"? There are protected parks in parts of Africa where lions are native to that help conserve their populations. Being put on exhibition in cold climates is not humane.

i see ur point, but what would hav them do, kill all the captive lions? i just think ur being a little ignorant, these zoo's like the toronto zoo for example are focused on conservation, reproduction, education, research and recreation, and if thye have to put the animals on display to fund it that im all for it.. imo zoo's do a lot of good, they rescue animals that are in situation like this that would not survive in the wild.

Good point. My main issue with these zoos has to do with their captivity in a climate that is too cold for them... not cold enough for them to die, but it's abuse nonetheless.
