Robert - this is just incredible. I love your phrasing and emotions. I've been a fan of yours for some time. Thanks for all the inspiration. I fell across this video because I just recorded a mp3 (me on violin) of this for fun with my wife who wanted to get back into a little more piano playing. I made a video of it and placed it on youtube and immediately your video showed up as suggested videos. Again Bravo!
I'm very interested to hear that this was played on the oboe. I will have to find the recording to hear how it sounds. I also didn't know that Richard Rodney Bennett transcribed it.
This lovely Elgar piece was played on the oboe and accompanied by orchestra in the 1992 movie Enchanted April. Richard Rodney Bennett wrote a charming and romantic score. Try downloading the sheet music for free from Wikipedia. A CD issued by BBC Music Magazine in 1995 features a 22 minute suite of the score as well as Chanson de Matin. Try Ebay.
Thankyou for posting this,,,which brought back memories of visiting Sir Edward Elgar's birthplace last year,,at Lower Broadheath, Worcester, Next to the small redbrick house stands the pleasant new reception centre in which was playing this music.
One of Elgar's most charming melodies, arranged and played with a most agreeable style and sensitivity. I heard this recording in the evening and now look forward to the morning, to listen to it again in the right context. Thank you so much for posting your very enjoyable performance.
Superb version of a classic.
Bravo.

Do you have the sheet to this song? I used to play with the piano and my friends with the flute, violin... but I would like to play it alone!
Thank you
enunetxu 1 year ago
@enunetxu You can find a sheet on IMSLP. I don't think it's the exact same as Mr. Finley's transcription, but it's very similar.

I've been playing this on piano, and I would be glad if I could play it with even a fraction of the nuance you've put into this piece.

Funny how this just sounds so "English"--even though hints of Grieg certainly peek in and out.
Charming music, nicely played.

Tasteful, understated playing which allowed the music to speak for itself. Really captured the feeling of the piece.
