@adamboeing737 Well, to be exact that's what happens if you open an armed door. If you manage to open a door on a pressurized aircraft, it would open with an explosive force towards you (probably injuring you) and the flight attendant probably standing inside next to the door could get sucked out.
@pilot588 the shoe is a safety device so the aircraft door doesn't touch (get ripped off) from the aerobride. The plane moves up and down with cargo/passengers moving on/off, the shoe just drops the bridge and sets off a warning
opening an A330 door from outside will disarm the dorr if it hasn't been done correctly from inside by crew, or if there is a difficulty with the disarming mechanism inside the aircraft. so yes, while the door almost always would already be disarmed, the action of raising the exterior handle, as demonstrated in the video, will "double-check" the door has been disarmed.
this is also why ground staff open the doors at airports - it double checks the disarming procedure, to reduce the risk of injury or damage due to inadvertant slide deployment - i imagine that european carriers will adapt to this procedure eventually once they have had slide disarming issues.
there is no way to "check" that the door has been disarmed from outside, other than waiting for the cabin crew's "thumbs up" signal and return knock. when checking inside the aircraft windiw, the ground agent is checking that the red "cabin pressurized" light is not flashing. the white "slide armed" indicator will only illuminate as the door is opened armed, so in this respect, the video mentions this procedure unnecessarily.
its saying that if you lift the handle on the outside of the aircraft, it automatically disarms the door . that means its almost impossible to open an armed door. if it does open in the armed position, the emergency slide will comeout
why at qantas and some american airlines the ground staff open and close the door? In Europe we close/open the doors ourselves (cabin crew) from the inside.
actually yes they are. you my friend fail. how the fuck do u think planes "taxy" into the runway. specially in busy airports where they need lots of space for lots of aircraft?
When the plane is loaded, the suspension in the landing gears retracs, so the plane gets lower. The dewbridge should follow the plane. If it doesn't, the door touches the safety shoe and causes alarm / lowers the dewbridge. Without safety shoe, the door could be dameged in fault situation.
it is not a plug door. it would open inward like on boeing. it can be opened when the aircraft is pressurized but it would cause a lot of damage to the door flange and seels.
look bud... i don't know what your expertise in the subject is but i'm a ramp agent for an airline that is based out of phoenix as well as a pilot. A319 was still pressurized. GA failed to check the pressure warning light, thought she got the ok from the F/A and popped the door. Broke the door, hurt her wrist, and the passengers' ears popped.
If you're talking about inflight, engineers from airbus have said it is improbable but not impossible. Atleast that's what the guy from Airbus told me
If the plane is in the ground and "pressurized", the pressure in the plane should be greater than the ambient pressure (of course). The question is, how do you set the cabin pressure so high in Airbus A320-series (expecting that the airport's elevation is under 5000 feet).
Actually, the pressure will suck you out and injure you. And to prevent the door from being opened when the cabin still has risidual pressure, it has a great big red light that flashes sitting in the window of the door, everyone can see it, inside and out. And all this talk about widnows size and shape etc etc It's not an A320, A320's have 4 doors and 4 over wing exits. That plane had 8 doors.
wtf..... shows how much you know. For one, obviously it LOOKs (but isn't) an A320 because all airbus are similar just like boeings. And second, qantas doesn't operate A320's!!! Jetstar does!!
I can identify which is an A320 and A330, the video shows a smaller engine, its either a CMD International or a Pratt and Whitney, and there are no winglets shown but wingfence, and the, and circumference is smaller than it looks, the wingspan is shorter, the windows looks more rounded than the A330(I have traveled A330 often times and A320 too often)A330 and A340 don't open up R1/L1 doors but R2/L2 door(may vary on routes e.g. International) but regarding this one the a320 is not Qantas to me..
Are you feeling ok....? They 2 planes... The first one is a 767 and the second is an A330-200 not an A320... I don't care what you're saying about the engines because the plane they show at the end is in qantas colours and it has "cityflyer" on it... A330-200 QANTAS not A320!!! Remember, it may LOOK, but isn't.
Oh yes you are right! on 0:06 seconds try to pause it and you will not see even wingfences nor winglet..if its an A330(no winglet) while if its not a A320(no wingfence)and also its not a 767(no emergency exits over the wings. see0:05) so what aircraft is it?
Yes that one at 0:06 is a 767. But really, they're obviously oppening an A330 door because you can see it's the 'S' and 'alia' on it from "qantaS, the spirit of austrALIA" and the cabin crew are dressed in qantas colours and it's not a boeing door and qantas DON'T have A320s so....
All the modern door planes have very hard locks(learned after the weak doors and crashes of the DC-10)the cabin is pressurized so it needs stronger locks & thick doors to with stand the enormous pressure inside and outside the aircraft, and nice one on the door knobs^_^ uhmm the knobs urging from the door might ruin the airflow of the plane^_~
Ok I dont get it what does it mean when the pressurized light is on if your sititng on the ground why is the cabin still pressurized if your on the ground? what happens if you open the door if that light is on?
ps... what does the armed light mean and what happens if you open the door while its lit?
If the door is armed and opened from the inside the slide will deploy, however, opened from outside the slide will disarm and not deploy. The aircraft will always land depressurised, some land slightly pressurized, however, aircraft might be on a pressure ground run to maint purposes so keep a look out!!It annoys the shit out of me when they put the handle down after opening!
As far as I have gathered, when a door is armed it means that the slide will automatically deploy when the door is opened. The video says that the door is disarmed when you lift up the handle (therefore the slide should not deploy). Also, at 1:35, note the warning right below the window: "Do not open door if red warning light is flashing (cabin pressurisation). I can't see any warning about the arming indicator.
I am aware of that, but my question was why the video says that an armed door should not be opened, since lifting the handle disarms the door (and thus disables the slide). Or is it just there in case cabin crew (for whatever reason) fail to disarm the door from the inside?
From my understanding, lifting the handle SHOULD disarm an armed door, but should not be relied upon (since an armed door discharges a CO2 bottle, causing the door to, literally, fly open.)
